Does anyone have a source for the third line of Please ever being "Push it away and it all comes back again"? On the wiki it says that it was changed in the recording, but the liner notes have it written the same way it's sung.

You are right - it’s sung as “but it all comes back again” and is printed that way in the booklet. Amending it now.

Hive mind, question
This page is uncategorised, what do we do with it? http://www.nin.wiki/My_God_Is_The_Sun

I don't know if it's a cover, as it's the band performing it with Trent as a guest. It's a weird oddity that I can't figure out what to do with

i don't know much about the structure or where you're trying to categorize it, but i think of it as a live collaboration.

I'd agree, but giving it that tag won't really help categorising it on ninwiki as nothing ELSE has that.

Maybe I should make a collaborations page...

yeah, i mean, any gary numan covers where gary came out live and sang with the band, any live bowie collabs, and the stuff they've done with dillinger would all fall under that category. OH and all the stuff with TVOTR & peter murphy!

I don't think it's significant enough for an entire song page dedicated to it, but the information does deserve to be documented somewhere. I'd categorize it as a live guest appearance. Other live guest appearances would include Trent guesting on Suck vocals with Pigface, and, um, I guess performing Supernaut with the Revolting Cocks? I guess I'd put Kick Out the Jams in that category too. It was SSSC's cover with Trent as guest appearance.

fillow
04-21-2019, 01:12 AM
FWIW, Dreams by TVOTR is also Trent performing as a guest, not the other way around.

And I would say keep pages for everything. What are we, running out of server disk space?

sheepdean

Kick out the Jams already has a page - honestly the fact it wasn't a cover is the biggest issue, if it was I could just label it one. But it's a page made for a guest appearance and I'm not super sure it shouldda been done at all*. It's one of few uncategorised pages on the wiki, and the only song page. A new category of guest appearances would be interesting, but it would open a can of worms for many more things that we've not put on for being too tenuous.

I think we also need to at some point discuss where the "nin" of ninwiki ends and the "Reznor, Ross and Co." begins.

*Yes I know I'm the one who made the page

Opinion time people:

I kinda want to make a Covers Of NIN page, just to keep track of them all (and that way Linkin Park, Cash, Maroon 5 etc can get their references without an extensive page).

I was thinking of doing it in the style of Remixes, by album and then by song, for comfortable browsing. Does anyone have a better idea, or thinks this is a bad idea to begin with?

If you don't have an account on the wiki, ask for one.

If you have one, just go on this page for example : http://www.nin.wiki/Mantra and click on the grey "create".

And then use another page as a skeleton, like http://www.nin.wiki/Theme_For_Tetsuo:_The_Bullet_Man for example.

I don't know about this. The remixes page is specifically for NIN sanctioned remixes, but covers can be done by anyone. I don't mind the page existing, I just think it'll easily become the largest page on the wiki. I mean, you could probably list a hundred bands for covering Hurt alone.

It wouldn't be so big if we stick to officially released versions. And you maybe over estimating how many covers are there. Yes, you can probably find 20 or even more versions of Hurt, HLAH, Closer and Wish. For the majority of other songs there would be none or very few, and many of them would be from these terrible electro-industrial tribute albums (or piano/string quartet/lullaby versions). Trust me, apart from the Big 4, there aren't that many.

As for live-only covers, we can maybe limit the page to well established bands/artists and exclude the millions of youtube solo versions and cover bands.

I was thinking for studio covers, we allow anything released commercially, and for live, maybe it has to be notable?

I’ve added in the trivia section for Burning Bright, The Background World and I’m Not From This World that they’ve all been featured in episodes of TNT’s Animal Kingdom. On that note, have we got it mentioned on any page that the theme song for the show was composed by TR and AR? The “sheeee...” at the beginning reminds me so much of Reptile. It’s called Welcome To The Jungle: sheepdean

It’s an awesome show about a family of criminal brothers with their mother as the main matriarch/brains behind all the jobs they do. It was originally an Australian film released in 2010. This is a reimagined, Americanised TV series now in season 4. They’ve also featured songs from the trilogy EPs in three episodes. It’s on TNT in the US.

I didn't see this mentioned on the ninwiki or ninlive, and as far tv performances go I usually just hear dance party use which was just the album version then nothing unit the MTV Award Show. so I thought it was worth mentioning, I know the full audio is on ninlive but he doesn't mention the the tv clip... it's on youtube if you haven't seen it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEXKOR5Oepo&list=PLF08D6DA594063C2D&index=21
I've added a mention of this to the page for that night's show. Because it wasn't a dedicated TV appearance and only a snippet from a regular tour stop, it won't be added to the "unabridged dates" section on the tours page.

Would it be worthwhile to have a single article that has a full rundown of all the projects and releases that were announced/teased in some way that were abandoned/cancelled for whatever reason?

A list off the top of my head:

H-Gun Hate Tour video (Cleveland Empire Club)
Simon Maxwell FDtS tour video
March of the Pig original music video
Hurt original music video
Closure DVD
The Fragile deluxe edition/5.1 surround
With Teeth deluxe packaging/book
Every Day Is Exactly the Same music video
Ghosts film festival
Wave Goodbye footage
Year Zero HBO show
Everything music video

The Scores & Soundtracks section on the homepage is looking severely outdated, as well. We should at least get The Vietnam War, Mid90s, Bird Box, & Watchmen added to that. It'd also be a good move to make sure there's enough room to add Waves, The Woman in the Window, Soul, and whatever else pops up in the next year. Maybe Scores deserves it's own dedicated row at this point (like the NIN releases section) and HTDA can split a row with Soundtracks since both of them only have a handful of releases. If splitting up Soundtracks & Scores is frowned upon (though they are very different), maybe pair HTDA with something like "Remixes for Others" or "Releases by other NIN members" like Sonoio, etc.?

piggy
10-31-2019, 10:59 PM
Yeah, I've been wishing someone would tweak the homepage for all those scores and soundtracks. I think they should just have their own row, but not sure where to put HTDA stuff. I wish we could get a facelift for the homepage as well. I feel like the Slip-esque look is a little tired now. It could have the same layout, just with a different theme. Maybe one that's clean and classic and not tied to any particular era or release.

I don't know how much work would be involved, but I'd potentially be interested in helping with a redesign. Remember the old Metallica website where you could apply several different skins that were themed around their albums? That would be pretty cool (but a lot of extra work).

John Crawford (kraw) needs a wiki page. I was going to link to it from somewhere, and create a redlink, and hence increase its score on Special:WantedPages (http://www.nin.wiki/Special:WantedPages), but I wasn't sure that such a contribution would be welcome.

Does anyone (other than me) feel that Ninwiki should have an explicit content license? The lack of such a thing has put me off from making major contributions. It also prevents ninwiki from legitimately adapting content from (say) wikipedia.

Since he hasn't been involved with every release since NTAE, it might be worthwhile to list all of the projects he has been involved with (Before the Flood, NTAE, Add Violence, Vietnam War, Watchmen). Also, shouldn't we have a page for David Carson? He did the photography and art direction for most Fragile-era releases (The Fragile, the We're in This Together singles, Into the Void, And All That Could Have Been, and Still).

I don't know if this has been suggested already, but I think the practice of having the Null number listing on the Halo page needs to be changed, or at least something should be done to make the Halo, Sigil, and Null pages more consistent.

I have a couple of suggestions:

- Split all three out into different articles. This would leave Sigils untouched and give Null numbers its own article, which would put all three on the same level.
- Combine Sigils back into the Halo numbers article so that all three index systems are on the same page. This seems less ideal to me because it buries Sigils and Null numbers on the Halo numbers page, which hurts their discoverability.
- Move the Null numbers onto the "Soundtracks & Scores" page. They tie closely into each other - more than the Halo and Null numbers do, at least.

Personally, I think 1 is the best option of the three above. Like I said, I don't know if this has been discussed before, but given that we're finally getting into the 10s in Null numbers and filling out some of the missing ones, I think it's worth re-considering where they're listed.

Also, putting another request in for updating the front page to reflect the new scores post-Patriots Day.

"On April 1, 2007, a bootleg recording of the Chicago, Illinois listening party of March 18, 2007 surfaced on several peer-to-peer networks. The quality of the recording is very low and it is apparent that whoever made the recording did not have very good sound capturing equipment, presumably a cellphone."

I didn't have a cell phone capable of recording that long back then (like what they did for The Hand That Feeds leak-both of which apparently drove Trent crazy enough to release the real thing.) I drove from St. Louis to the Metro and recorded it with a microcassette, AUX'd in to my PC when I got home & sent it to someone named sarah on the old forum over email. I still have the tape I did it on. Sorry for anyone's ears who listened to that in full.

Are the lyrics for Gunshots By Computer correct? I always thought this line:

This man and his army are praying in their fortresses making guns of steeples
Insurgence of people

was actually this:

This man and his army are praying in their fortresses making guns of steeples
Insurgents of people

As in, people are being made to be 'insurgents' rather than 'insurgence'. Makes more sense, right? Or am I wrong?

Should we add a note to each song title page that appears on the Volume 3 faux track listing of the Watchmen soundtrack? Just Do It, The Eater of Dreams, The Way Out Is Through, etc?

One of my to-do's is to flesh out Charlie Clouser's page with all of his remixes, at least during his tenure with NIN. This was inspired by this reddit post that sourced NINwiki as the source for a misattribution of this remix, and as a bonus we got a comment from the man himself: https://www.reddit.com/r/nin/comments/eg1xb5/killing_joke_democracy_nine_inch_nails_remix/

I've noticed an error on the Soundtracks & Scores page at the bottom under Songs Recorded for Film. It states:

Nine Inch Nails, "Burn (http://www.nin.wiki/Burn)" (for Lost Highway - 1997)

That obviously needs to be corrected to The Perfect Drug and another separate entry should be added for Burn/Natural Born Killers.

With regards to the Watchmen 03 coil references: Last One Out Turn Off The Lights is a hand scrawled message within the dead wax of side 3 ( so disc b side 1, aka the last side with music) of the vinyl edition of Musick To Play In The Dark Volume 2. Not sure if it's worth inclusion, but it's some trivia for ya either way

I had a few ideas back in October:

Tony
02-27-2020, 12:56 PM
I've added some scores to the list on the main page. Separating out the scores and soundtrack sounds like a good idea, but we're running out of space in the thumbnail release listing area...

maybe pair HTDA with something like "Remixes for Others" or "Releases by other NIN members" like Sonoio, etc.?

I like the idea of moving HTDA somewhere else to free up space and make it look a little cleaner. Maybe replacing the Year Zero ARG box with something like "Related Projects" like you said. What else could go under there, besides HTDA and Sonoio? Would we include Filter? Tapeworm? Pigface? If we don't have enough, we could probably expand our definition a little and include APC, Manson, Tool, etc.

The discography on the official site has a "Family" and "Miscellaneous" section. In my opinion, if we're adding something with thumbnails, it should be closer to "Family". HTDA should be its own section; ideally, so should Atticus Ross since he's an official member. SONOIO, 12 Rounds, Cortini, Telefon Tel Aviv, and New Regime, like it is on the official site makes sense.

The problem with "Related" is it opens too many doors, then you're stuck highlighting only a few with thumbnails, which is fine but not ideal. If you're going to throw up APC for writing credits, then why not Lil Nas X? If you're putting up APC because of touring as well... I'm sure you can see where that's going. If you want to have a section like that then I'd highlight the biggies, such as Manson, Pigface, Saul Williams, David Bowie... I had to stop myself there.

That's a lot to say my vote is for Atticus Ross, first and foremost.

piggy
02-27-2020, 03:37 PM
Yes, I had a similar thought a few months back. A section for related projects in place of the Year Zero ARG section, and I agree that it should be defined along similar lines as the official site. I updated the ARG section of the YZ page a while back with a link to the World of Year Zero category page, so anyone looking for that stuff shouldn't have a hard time finding it.

I posted over on the Rock and Roll HOF thread, a bunch of hi-res images taken by the RRHOF staff and I would like to find a more permanent home for them other than my personal google drive. I don't have a ninwiki account, and I had some problems registering one. I have a few edits/additions if anyone has time and deems it worthy. So, can someone...

Edit the pages for Robin Finck, Danny Lohner, Chris Vrenna, and Charlie Clouser, their Body of Work sections? They were all credited on the recent vinyl reissue of the Quake Soundtrack. It was previously known that Vrenna helped Trent with it, but now, it was made official, finally.

Edit the pages for Atticus Ross, Alessandro Cortini, Ilan Rubin, Robin Finck, Danny Lohner, and Chris Vrenna, in regards to their Hall of Fame inductions? I think it's a very important part of NIN's history that those non-Trent lads got the nod.

Edit the page for Closer to God (halo), to credit the then-current lineup of NIN? In particular, track B of the cassette version, "March of the Pigs (live)". Trent Reznor, Robin Finck, Danny Lohner, Chris Vrenna, and James Woolley all did the performance on that particular track (which was taken from the performance music video).

Edit the page for Richard Patrick, his Body of Work section? I think Closure should be added to it (it's already added on Danny Lohner's and Charlie Clouser's and Robin Finck's page). The other band members on Closure (James Woolley, Jeff Ward, Ron Musarra, probably other pre-1991 members) do not have a "Body of Work" subsection.

Edit the page for Ron Musarra, adding in that he was thanked in the Pretty Hate Machine booklet? I think that was a crucial gesture. In addition, possibly adding in that he played drums on the original Purest Feeling demo? I don't have a source to back that up, but, you can hear a drummer shouting during a countdown at the start of "Sanctified", and I'm quite certain Musarra does the same thing on an old live video (forget which one or which band). Might be worth adding that to the Purest Feeling and "Sanctified" page as well, I dunno.

Edit the page for Prick, and redirecting all mention of Kevin McMahon to that particular page? McMahon is the only former live member not to have his own page, but, the page of Prick should be okay. I think his brief 3 show stint should be mentioned on that page as well.

2 last things:

-On the actual NIN page, under Members, Brian Liesegang is listed. It is said that he subbed for Lee Mars on a few shows. Is there a source for this? I actually tried asking Brian himself, and tried asking others on Reddit, but I got no response on both lol.

-Not a question really, but, I wanted to thank the person that included my old write-up on James Woolley into his page. It looks a lot better now!

I thought we would wait until they've been inducted in November so that we don't have to go back and make it past tense instead of future tense, as it would be if I edit it now.

Yeah, there was a CD with all the AV tracks as instrumentals: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/313195499178

piggy Leviathant, I messaged the seller asking if they would share the stems/instrumentals with the masses but this was the reply I received:

Hello.

No, sorry. That s the most unprofessional behavior a seller can do after someone have spend a huge amount of money on unreleased material. That would significant lower the value of these items and it would damage my reputation as a seller. In fact, I have discs for the rest of the songs on this album and there s a chance I will get more nin stuff in the future. I can t please a whole fandom, it s not my intention at all.

I'm guessing this is harder than it looks.

And fuck this guy - more than once I've reached out to someone selling a rare physical thing, asked about getting a digital copy, and the seller's been totally cool with it. I believe in both cases that come to mind, they even checked with the buyer.

It's also a clear indication that he's selling the intellectual property, and not the physical property. That has to count for something - although maybe you don't get stung until you do the deal.

Ok, so we talked about the 'Accolades and recognition' page... Now that we have all the Rock Hall-related stuff from nin.com (band member photos and statements) as well as photos of the Woodstock exhibit, should we have a entirely separate page for the Rock Hall stuff that gets linked out from the 'Accolades and recognition' page, or should we put it all on the same page? If you guys think the 'Accolades...' page should have a table format, then yeah, we'd have to link out. If you guys think it should just be set up with normal headings, we can keep it all in one place. Thoughts?

I’d like to put “Awards” on the main menu.

from there we can have the “Awards & Accolades” main page, from there we can list all of the individual awards.

then we can make a page for the R&R hof for all of this new content

piggy

Sounds good. Perhaps on the RNRHOF page we will eventually be able to have transcripts of Iggy Pop's induction speech and the band members' speeches, and maybe whatever comments are made by other people during the broadcast.

A contribtion to Down In It (https://www.nin.wiki/Down_In_It_(song)) (registering still seems disabled?):

Producer Keith LeBlanc mentioned in a printed interview (https://imgur.com/gallery/bgq1z) that "Down In It" was the song he got to "really put my signature on". His revisions - the Shred, Singe, and Skin mixes - draw heavily from the tracks "Mechanical Movements" and "Einstein" from his album Stranger Than Fiction, released earlier the same year (1989). The fast-paced synth prominent at the beginning of Skin is from "Mechanical Movements", and the main drum pattern is from "Einstein". Additionally, the crowd chant samples during each chorus have appeared in other works involved with Keith's band Tackhead, such as Gary Clail & Tackhead - Reality and The Barmy Army - Stadium Rock.

& Head Like a Hole (Opal) (https://www.nin.wiki/Head_Like_A_Hole_(song)#Head_Like_A_Hole_.28Opal.2 9):

It features a sample in the choruses that also forms the main rhythm of Mark Stewart - The Wrong Name and the Wrong Number. Adrian Sherwood was involved in the production of the Stewart song, and he and Keith LeBlanc were both members of Mark Stewart and the Maffia at the time they produced Pretty Hate Machine, though whether they had direct involvement with the Opal mix is unknown. LeBlanc and Sherwood aren't credited on any of the Head Like a Hole versions except Keith's mixing of Slate.

So now with the tracklisting for Soul, we have two songs called "Falling", one on Quake and one on Soul. We'll need a disambiguation page, but I'm not sure how to title the separate track pages. Should they be called Falling (Soul song) and Falling (Quake song), or should it be something like Falling (Nine Inch Nails song) and Falling (Reznor & Ross song)?

Lyrics have been added to TWIUTB. I made a page for the other one but I'm waiting to see if the lyrics will pop up on the internetz, since it's not super easy to transcribe.

You can download them here:

I believe they're directly transcoded from the DRM'd proprietary Sony format.

Info for the "Sin" page. More Keith LeBlanc shenanigans, as per usual: the bell loop in Sin (Dub), Sin (Long), and Sin (Short) - all remixes made by LeBlanc and Sherwood - appears pitched down and with a bit of variation in "Mr. President", from Keith's solo album Tasteless Cuts, released the same year as PHM.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0Y54OHv0CM
(Most noticeable at 1:02 onward)
Tasteless Cuts was released in 1989 whereas the Sin halo was released 1990, so unless the bell was set to appear in the album version then scrapped or the Sin halo was massively delayed, it's probably the Sin remixes borrowing from Mr. President and not vice versa.

Side note: won't be surprised if something from The Only Time (produced by Keith) also originates from an obscure solo project; I basically just have that to figure out before I'm set to stop wanking about Keith here :p

EDIT: Also, why isn't the cover of the DVD included on that page? I really feel it should be, especially since it's referenced on the page in the story about David finding the underground bomb shelter at a home he purchased.
(the two versions that were sold – Dolby Digital & DTS, respectively – were slightly different. See examples below.)

@piggy (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=568) Thanks for the heads up!

That’s likely a database error. I upgraded all the software and did some database maintenance at the end of last year. The content probably still exists but might need to be re-linked in the db. I came across this same problem with a couple other pages when I did the upgrade.

I’ll take a look!

EDIT: The page should be restored - https://www.nin.wiki/Nin.com/Fragility_Rehearsals

Hello!

A couple of things I noticed on the Quake entry -
The external link to the Wikipedia entry links to the disambiguation, rather than the article itself.
Under “Trivia”, the sentence ‘The game's readme refers to Nothing Interactive (https://www.nin.wiki/Nothing_Interactive), an entity that has not been to referred to before or since.’ doesn’t seem to make sense?

I noticed this a while ago and forgot to mention it (the Oscar win tonight reminded me), but on the Awards page, both awards for The Social Network should say 2011, not 2010. The film (and score) was released in 2010, but the actual ceremonies for the Golden Globes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/68th_Golden_Globe_Awards) and the Academy Awards (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/83rd_Academy_Awards) were both in 2011 (January 16 and February 27, respectively).

Given that Trimark was taking pre-orders for an item with a catalog number and a UPC, it can't hurt to include that information in the wiki. There is no evidence that such a laserdisc was ever produced.

Maybe there can be a catch-all Hoax index page for ninwiki? Smaller-scale stuff can get a listing and brief mention, and bigger hoaxes (like Strobelight) can link to the article.

Here are some thoughts for listings on such a Hoax index page:

Hard Copy report
Trent Reznor's personal homepage (Reznor's Edge/blackrose) and Impossible Pain
https://www.nin.wiki/Songs_misattributed_to_NIN
https://www.nin.wiki/Mysterious_Videos
Strobelight

Closure laserdisc and Reptile cassette
