Where is Everybody? should have been a single from The Fragile. Listening to that today im amazed Interscope did not push for that to be a single.
That era The Fragile was released was weakest time for music and, mainstream rock. But if you listen to Where is Everybody you can hear the hit potential there. Its so enormous sounding in every sense.
Its been used in about 20 movies and adverts since??? Ive heard it on a few really, really random shows for the BBC over the years.

They took a risk with Closer in 94 but not that track? Odd.

Call me insane, but I have always thought that the very beginning of "were in this together", the distorted parts in the beginning always seem to be saying "Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger"
Ive ruined that beginning for a few people I know now, because ive convinced them to hear it too...

:D wow now that's all I can hear. On a related note, my friend and I ruined the kind of slappy bass notes that precede the "Help me" portions of Closer. We imagined that was the noise a penguin would make as it walked, and now anytime I listen to Closer, I imagine penguins marching along with it.

Further Down The Spiral: Tour features no songs from the album
And All That Could Have Been: tour doesn't have song on, standard album doesn't have song on
With Teeth: tour barely features song
Lights In The Sky: tour doesn't have song on, EP doesn't have song on

Does Trent pay attention to what he calls his tours?

Further Down The Spiral: pretty sure the title is not official. Too lazy to search, but I think the passes/posters/whetever memorabilia from that tour reads Self Destruct tour. And oh, the album happened a few months after said tour ended.
And All That Could Have Been: lyric is featured in The Great Below and The Wreteched
With Teeth: still played more than 50 times
Lights In The Sky: agreed (though the song was soundchecked)

Lights In The Sky: agreed (though the song was soundchecked)

Trent said something about it being too quiet a song (in reference to the assholes who like to yell things during quiet songs) but later got the courage to play it on the Wave Goodbye tour.

I LOVE 10 Miles High and The New Flesh I don't know why those two tracks didn't make it onto the standard tracklist.. Imho The New Flesh fits quite good to the third version of the We're In This Together single. The single all works out with this track in the middle. But I'm not sure if I would like it on The Fragile CD.

Need some help. Lost all my nin files. Was able to redownload everything I needed except one thing.

I absolutely LOVE the soundboard cut Another Version of the Truth gift 2 disc live cd. Except for whatever reason they used the Victoria version of Terrible Lie instead of Portland, which is subtly different but in my mind, vastly better. I originally made my own mix with the Portland cut, except now I can't download Lights over Portland anywhere. No seeders.

If someone can seed on the bay, or pm me to send me just that specific track so I can recreate my mix, I would greatly appreciate it. Flac is preferred, but I am going to convert it regardless, so mp3 is fine too if you only have that. Thanks,

At ~ 50 seconds in album version of Right where it belongs there's an effect that feels like airplane taking off and keeps ascending until 3 minutes when it sort of reaches the "ceiling" (don't know correct english equivalent) and the earth slowly floats somewhere deep below. pity it doesn't stay there very long.

I hate listening to my NIN bootlegs collection once in a while. Makes me miss seeing Trent and Co. on the stage to an unhealthy extent. I think I can safely say that even in 10 or 20 years from now THIS is the band I cared for the most and that has given me the most to drool over. I did not like everything and I even hated some, but damn these guys (all of them!) are great and I love every line-up for what it was!

I remember downloading a rip of an unauthorized CD called "Nine Inch Nails - The Interview" (I think). It ran for about half an hour (again: I think), and there were various interviews of Trent over some dumb "industrial" loops. Most of these interviews must have been from radio shows. Some of them were recorded from a shitty telephone connection, full of static and buzzing, making Trent's voice even more hard to listen to along with the stupid music in the background. People were actually selling this shit back in the day.

Time for some NINerdiness:

Ever heard of the HDCD technology? It's a (rather wonky, in my opinion) technology which adds extra audio data to a CD for (sometimes) better audio quality. Usually, it adds four bits on the standard 16-bit depth, making it 20-bit. I think there's also some thing called "Super HDCD" which claims to make it 24-bit, but we'll skip that.

Anyway, the technology used to be fairly popular about a decade ago. The HDCD's play as regular 16/44 CD's on normal players, so a HDCD-compliant player is required to decode the extra signal. One of the most popular HDCD's is Tool's Lateralus. The technology is still used today, albeit only by annoying audiophiles (read: Neil Young).

Trent had used this technology on some releases during the Fragile era. I used foobar2000's HDCD decoder addon to scan NIN's FLAC discography for compliant tracks, and found that the TDTWWA single, as well as all We're In This Together singles, contain HDCD data (though I can't tell if they actually sound better). A track off The Fragile, "Into The Void", also lights up the HDCD indicator, as well as parts (I can't figure this out) of the following track, "Where is Everybody".

I believe all of this will be a moot point if Trent releases a 24-bit stereo version of The Fragile on a DVD/Blu-ray/stick, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

indeed, i investigated this with Sheepdean a couple years ago using the TDTWWA CD single. far as i could tell, it's basically the same as the Lateralus HDCD, which is to say that the grand effect is simply adding headroom above the already-clipped waveform - essentially making the music quieter, without actually adding anything where the extra bit depth would matter (the quietest sounds).

however, it might have something to do with the way Windows Media Player was ripping the HDCD information.

i didn't know the WITT singles had it too. hmmm...

Something tells me that Trent & co. aren't too keen on releasing the final concert in its entirety. I think they'd rather select the top performances from that last run of gigs. Not to be a dick here, but there were very clear fuckups at the Wiltern, that weren't necessarily present at the previous gigs. It's like the focus was on the special guests, rather than on playing the best version of each song.

Concerts aren't about perfect experiences. (And actually, the imperfect is where the magic usually happens.) As a very small, concrete example: Know how TR -- unlike any other artist I've ever seen -- never lets photographers come out into the pit until well into the show? Not the first three songs when he's picture-perfect, but when the photos will be real.

The Wiltern show in its entirety is the documentation of a moment in NIN history, one with a lot of significance to fans (and, I'm sure, the band). To suggest that TR would be narcissistic and egocentric enough to not release it because of something you perceive as fatal fuckups... that seems fucked up to me.

Not narcissistic. Just a desire to release a better product. Wasn't that the case with the multiple recordings on ATCHB? What about recording two nights for BYIT, and even then rumors of overdubbing it? Or providing footage from THREE concerts for AVOTT?

The moment in NIN history was real - for the people who were there. As you said, concerts are imperfect experiences, where the little changes tend to matter the most. A live release is not a concert. I'm all for capturing the best versions of the songs, which doesn't necessarily mean Numan singing Metal or Mike Garson playing wonderfully.

I'm not saying that all fuckups are bad - just not a huge fan of the ones that happened at the Wiltern. During the 2009 tour, the lack of Alessandro forced Trent to make up for little mistakes tremendously well, and from what I recall of those last few bootlegs, the best examples of that were during the pre-Wiltern gigs.

Disclaimer: I was bored

If NIN releases were children:
PHM is the first child, and is into all kinds of weird music that you've never heard of
Broken, being the second child, has to be angry and noisy to get any attention
TDS is the depressed teenager who works at McDonalds
The Fragile has a scholarship for piano playing, but wishes they were in a metal band
TFA is the accident child that you never really loved, but put up with just to keep up appearances
With Teeth watches MTV
YZ and YZR are identical twins, and though they swear they have many differences, no one can tell them apart
Ghosts is the kid that looks nothing like the father, but is a academic genius so no one mention's anything
The Slip is a baby that tries to emulate all of its siblings, but hasn't found its own voice yet

Today's news is about my band How To Destroy Angels.">>> etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if some NIN gets released in the near future. I'm not sure it will be any new material or it might be the The Fragile Deluxe and/or Wave Good Bye DVD. Thoughts?

Today's news is about my band How To Destroy Angels.">>> etc.

Tell me I'm crazy, but they way I read it he is speaking about any project he may be working on in that first paragraph, not particularly HTDA.

I wouldn't be surprised if some NIN gets released in the near future. I'm not sure it will be any new material or it might be the The Fragile Deluxe and/or Wave Good Bye DVD. Thoughts?

I don't think we'll be getting anything NIN-related in the "near future" because it would most definitely eclipse the HTDA full length. If we're getting anything, it'll be probably mid 2013, and an announcement probably won't be until the beginning of 2013, after An Omen has had some time to breathe.

It's really weird talking about new HTDA now that we know what the release is going to be called. It's a good feeling.

I'm not sure. It seems like Omen serves at least a couple of purposes: to fulfill TR's promise to give us new HTDA music this year, and as a teaser to get people psyched about the full release in the spring. I don't know if the band would be too worried about other releases overshadowing Omen. In fact, if there were NIN releases (like the Fragile deluxe or Wave Goodbye DVDs) that got a lot of attention in between Omen and the LP, it might actually bring more attention to the HTDA releases.

Was watching part of And All That Could Have Been earlier. Honestly, I think if Trent and Co. handed over the soundboard audio for the final show to the TOIOU guys and they edited the various camera angles that were shot by fans, you'd get a release that would be fairly similar in approach to AATCHB. As much as I'd love to see a professionally shot video, the almost chaotic nature of AATCHB seems more appropriate, and I think a release like that would be the best of both worlds. Fan created video, band created audio.

That's definitely how I seen An Omen too, but I feel like the momentum would be derailed if they released something between Omen and the LP. Like, yeah, NIN releases would bring more attention to Trent's projects in general (which includes HTDA), but I can't help but feel that the casual fan would end up completely ignoring the LP because now they have The Fragile deluxe or the Wave Goodbye DVD to occupy themselves with.

I just feel like An Omen would serve its purpose much better if it was the only thing we got until the LP. That way, that's all we have to focus on until the LP comes out, because there's no way that An Omen could overshadow the LP.

I remember I asked Rob a while back for a print of it, he said the art was still owned by people, I wonder if, when Interscope decide to release Bleedthrough because they're broke, it'll come with a nice big poster.

As much as I know that following The Fragile with a sci-fi concept album probably wouldn't have gone over as well (despite Year Zero killing it in that regard), I do kind of wish Bleedthrough happened instead of With Teeth. I liked the art direction better, and I seem to like the known-to-be-Bleedthrough-era songs best off W_T.

Edit: sheepdean, very interesting. The largest version I've found (http://www.ninwiki.com/images/f/fb/Bleedthrough.jpg) was on Rob's portfolio site, after chasing down the XML that feeds the Flash frontend.

Yeah, apparently it's owned by NIN, who at the time were of course "owned" by Interscope, so Trent has some of the rights, Rob probably has some, and there's a person at a desk in a skyscraper who has 1% of the rights and probably doesn't even know what an iPod is. #musicindustry

I'll bet that was his original intention - there's a caged animal reference lurking in Right Where It Belongs. What if he was originally going to write a concept album about his favourite animals, with music built entirely from processed wildlife vocalisations? I can only imagine the pain and angst in the demo version of Love Is Not Enough, in which he sings about how much he'd adore a pet big cat, but can't have one because it'd be too dangerous.

We've all been there, Trent.

I'm not quiet sure anymore wether it was the radio-leak of "The Hand that feeds" in shitty quality or the leak of the complete "With Teeth" record, but anyway, Reznor posted a statement later that day where he would spoil the end of Clint Eastwoods "Million Dollar Baby", which was just released at that time.

So, when you now hear him in interviews saying something along the lines of "Well, I used to get mad when leaks happened, but then I realized why am I mad at these guys?", he's thinking back to that evening.

I just returned from the SFN conference that ended on Wednesday... does that happen to be the meeting you attended?

Wandering down Toulouse St, and exploring St Louis Cemetery while listening to Still was totally appropriate.

Hah! Actually, Inman is a good friend of Rob Sheridan. He even made a drawing of Rob as a dinosaur once.

Indeed it was. SfN is insane as far as academic conferences go. I must have walked several miles over the course of it for just the poster sessions alone.

I was listening to In This Twilight live compilation the other day (the one that compiles all songs performed during 2005-07) and totally forgot about We're In This Together. And when it suddenly started... HOLY SHIT. I know it was really hard to sing live, but why didn't they play it a little more? They played Last a lot and I remember him saiying that it's also hard to sing. (Yeah I know they changed the key). I think that to really enhance the song (WITT) live, they should've add one more guitar layer during the solo part. Trent doesn't sing there anyway.

I can't find any other references to it on the forum so will start here. A few chunks of my torrent of this ("nine inch nails - In This Twilight (Live 2005-2007) FLAC") got messed up and I'm stuck on 98.2%. Can somebody please seed the last little bit?

Listened to Year Zero for first time in ages other day.......The lyrics to Vessell from Year Zero......sounds like a track about a homosexual relationship under an oppressive tyrannical government. Thats the most obvious assumption to my ears? And the effect this has on a persons faith? I suppose you can interpret in any way you want to. But the lyrics make a hell of a lot more sense when using a homosexual context. I know Trent is not gay, but that album covers many themes about being enslaved by some sort of system and being liberated, Vessell so happens to be the track that covers themes about standing up for an alternative type of love? And fighting for individuality. Etc. Lyrics on Year Zero are Trents best i think.

To me, Vessel always was about a character leading themselves to drug overdose so that the government couldn't capture and torture them. "My God, can it go any faster? I don't think I can last here" could refer to the drugs taking effect, and the instrumental outro symbolizes the slow and painful death. That's my take on it. Never thought it could be about homosexuality (though Meathead did make this connection once...).

I've long suspected Trent of being somewhat of a charlatan. I believe he played up some of his psychological weaknesses to attract a certain market. Also, to say that Trent wa doing this purely for the art of it would be a lie as he obviously cares about profits.

I thought I read somewhere that "Vessel" is about two personalities inside one mind that's being taken over by drugs called parepin and opal. In year zero, parepin was in the water and opal was a recreational drug. The person in vessel is experiencing reactions from both drugs. I have always interpreted the noisy outro of the song to be one of the personalities winning out over the other.

Heaven forbid an artist cares whatsoever about making money. I guess the only REAL artists are the ones that do it for free.

I think we all dream about doing what we love AND making money while doing it, including Trent. Does that make him less of an artist? No. In fact, I'd say that makes him very human. There ARE people who only care about making money, with no concern over the quality of the work they are putting out, but Trent isn't one of them.

10-29-2012, 02:59 PM
Yeah, I don't think cashpiles was making an accusation.

I kind of noticed that too... all the talk about his weaknesses gets pretty repititive when reading a couple of interviews from a certain era. I guess he/they laid out some kind of plan about what he'd talk about in those interviews (he sometimes even used the exact same phrases or sentences, etc..). That being said, I think, there's nothing wrong with it. Trent always stroke me as someone who's rather in control of things. So this makes perfectly sense.
Also I wouldn't go as far as calling him a charlatan, since some of his "weaknesses" surely happend, but I'm also sure, he embraced them publicly for matters of promoting his music and creating a certain "dark" persona.

On stage he might have played it up, but I think he was sincere when he wrote those songs and when he spoke in interviews. I remember reading Saul Williams talk about one of the songs on NiggyTardust and how he "raped" his life for arts sake, and I feel that Trent is probably the same way. After all, for as transparent as Trent has been with his fans, there's probably a lot we DON'T know about him.

Been watching a lot of old YouTube videos of the concerts I had been to and I've been really bumming on the fact that there could possibly never be another NIN tour again. I think we were completely spoiled from 2005-2009 on NIN live that we kind of took it for granted. I know I sure did, I've only had the chance to see the band 3 times in 2005, 2008 and 2009 respectively. I had the chance to see them again in Columbia in 2008 (with fuckin Boris nonetheless, one of my favorite bands) but plans didn't work out. I was going to see them again in 2009 at Aragon Ballroom but I made the stupid mistake of thinking "Well, I'll just skip presale and get the tickets when they go on sale..." and they all ended up selling out through presale. I wasn't thinking obviously.

I just realized that no artist has a more collective body of work and material that I know and appreciate more than Trent Reznor and basically anything Nine Inch Nails related (I mean, I've been on a steady NIN kick again recently and I can't stop listening to Things Falling Apart)...I just hope we get another chance to experience this music again live...and not through maybe How to Destroy Angels throwing in a NIN cover for live material sake...I mean Nine Inch Nails again live. I won't hold my breath for awhile but I sure hope it happens before the end of this decade.

Actually they didn't all sell out in presale, unless I'm confusing sales. I was in the first 500 for the presale for the 8/29 show and a few weeks later more tickets went on sale and I got a pair for 8/28 then.

I agree with Jake a couple posts back, in regards to the touring from 05-09. i only saw nin once during that period, and that was during the lights in the sky tour. the closest they came to me on the ninja tour was kansas city and i kick myself to this day for not going, because they opened that show with now im freakin nothing (favorite song from phm era).

aside from the lits tour, the only other time i saw em was back in 2000 on fragility 2.0, in minneapolis. april 17th if i remember correctly, because maynard (apc opened) said something to the effect of "its my birthday, and if you want to do someting for me, go home after the show, put on an elton john record, and masturbate till you pass out"

they played my hometown on sioux falls back in the day on the 2nd leg of the self destruct tour, but i was in middle school at the time and dint really listen to any music at all. i know that show was a film date too, along with omaha, and i can tell they used some of the footage from that show in the live medly of eraser/hurt/wish on closure from the wide shots. totally the sioux falls arena.

oh well, im sure once tr gets back into the groove of performing with htda, itll only be a matter of time before we get another nin tour. thats how it always happens, said artist 'retires' from playing live, gets talked into doing a festival or short tour, and gets bitten by the "performance" bug.

I think most artists enjoy performing.

It's the monotonous TOURING that is supposedly mostly no fun.

Unless you're Sting and you use private jets and schedule 3-day breaks between each show and you take your brood and three nannies with you during a school break.

(Or you only do, say, 5 shows and that's it for the year.)

I've always thought Trent's stage act is quite sincere and I doubt he has to play it up much. I'm sure I've heard him say in the past that playing certain songs takes him back to the place he was when he wrote them. And I imagine that was one of the main reasons he decided to stop touring; you know, if he was getting married and planning a new life around that then I can't imagine him wanting to keep playing all these songs that make him feel shit on stage. And his recent work with HTDA and Atticus has certainly been a lot less aggressive and angsty. I kind of doubt we'll see NIN again as they were, and if they do tour again I think Trent will pull a 'Bowie' and resign from playing most (if not all) of the old songs. TBH I can't really imagine him wanting to go back to singing songs that are potentially going to bring up a lot of old shit for him.

(Not that I wouldn't kill for a chance to see them play And All That Could Have Been live........)

Bowie didn't really stop playing old songs (http://bowiesongs.tumblr.com/post/29900916399/did-bowie-really-retire-his-oldies), he just paused his solo career to work with Tin Machine (which pointedly ignored his back catalogue). Eventually, he went back to conventional touring after a couple of years, beginning with the 1995 Outside/NIN tour, though for a while after that his band played old tunes as revamped arrangements to better fit in with the then-contemporary music he was making. Maybe HTDA will do the same with NIN's old stuff, à la the 2006 radio show sessions with Peter Murphy.

I think you may have been confusing sales, of course I don't want to put words in your mouth or anything. I just remember thinking I would just get my girlfriend and I at the time's hotel that Friday that the presale happened and the next thing I knew, that Saturday when I was checking out ETS everyone was talking about how all the tickets were gone. I remember being really pissed off at this as it's been something I never forgave myself for. haha. I had to cancel the hotel and everything.

Yeah, I was only 13 when they came to St. Louis for the Fragility tour and although I would discover and love the band incredibly just a year later I don't think my parents were too okay with most of the lyrical content enough to take me to a concert where their 13 year old son would be yelling "STARFUCKERS!!". I have amazing parents though, haha.

I really hope that after this HTDA stuff that Trent does get bitten by a "performance" bug, even if it's not a full tour and only a couple of cities...I will make damn sure that I travel and get to see NIN live one more time. Rollinger, the KC show was pretty amazing...although I wish I would've been able to hear more rarities from that tour like Metal, Americans and such it was really awesome to get Now I'm Nothing, (which in every YT video of the song you can hear my warrior cry of excitement when the drums kick in), Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now), The Becoming, Way Out Is Through and Physical..

That is not called being a charlatan. That is called not being a complete moron. Only morons share every aspect of themselves with the world. And is it really something to figure out. He has said in many interviews that most of the happier and positive parts of his life he keeps to himself. i love the rework of "The Man Who Sold the World" from those days. it's stunning.

Heard it ages ago and ever since I've been trying to track down who in the hell did it. It sounds similar to Trents style but I reeeeeeeeally doubt it is. I suppose that makes sense. Would easily be mistaken somewhere along the lines through chinese whispers. I remember finding it uploaded there by one of the users but the date it was uploaded to the NIN remix site was after the track was uploaded to youtube although It's entirely possible that its from someone else on the site and that person just stole it for credit. Regardless, it's a very pretty track

Thank you sir. I was always pretty certain that was the case but a good ol' 100% confirmation never hurt. Almost became obsessed with finding out who did it when I first heard it. Gonna have to trawl through remix.nin to see if I can find the original uploader at some point

Also, I really hope TR goes back to a five-piece band.

It's quite possible since he didn't mention recording new NIN music in this comment:

Aside from destroy angel's new EP, what's next for you?

A number of things. Tweaking some things for the HTDA full LP (coming in Spring), helping Josh out on a new QOTSA track, working with Roy, starting rehearsals for two bands.

But the Rolling Stone article is making me believe he might already have a new NIN album finished!

Yes. Plus: I remember him saying in interviews about The Slip that he got into making this album because he at least wanted to have a new song or EP out for the run of shows he had already booked (which became the LITS tour). Also, we know he's been in the studio with Alessandro and Atticus while HTDA's debut was already (almost) finished by the beginning of the year. It certainly would feel strange if he'd start touring again with the exact same batch of songs as last time - especially considering his words from said Rolling Stone article: "I never said that that wasn't going to happen, just that it couldn't go on as it was."

Yeah, he'll have a hard enough time explaining why he's going back out on tour less than four years later. (Not that *I* will complain.) There will have to be new music backing a tour.

I'd hope for not just new music, but a completely different way of presenting NIN. Trent mentione once about how he wanted to tour Europe with a string quartet. Something like tha, or something equally different and fresh, would be really good. To bring back a relatively similar version of NIN, so soon after saying an indefinite good bye, would be a bit anti-climatic I think.

If Trent and Dave tour with QOTSA I will fucking die.
I highly doubt this will happen, but if it did, I swear I would stop at NOTHING to go to one of the shows.

I want Dave to tour with NIN for a bit, Dave plus Robin Finck, Danny Lohner, Allesandro Cortini, that would be a powerful line up!

Same thoughts here. Everyone talks about the past, refers new songs with old songs. Please...., the past was another era with other emotions.
Look to the future exploring new things, new sounds and new limits.

Ooh yes. At the Royal Albert Hall. Picture that.

Turning up to the venue when doors open, sitting down, wearing heels, and still being able to see the stage. The Dream.

Fans have brought up the idea of a Trent + piano tour many times before, and I swear at one point (I think on The Spiral) he said he liked the idea. When he's too old to run around stage throwing guitar players into the crowd, I'd love to see a show like that.

Call me close-minded, but I'd hate to see that. Seems like a lost opportunity to see the real NIN.

However, I also hate the fact that Trent would probably pull this off in a way that you'd HAVE to go and see this because it would be so good.

I can see it now: beautiful gowns, sharp suits...it'll all go so nicely, covered in cornstarch.

When the Beastie Boys toured in 2007 for The Mix-Up, they would do two shows in each market. One night was a regular show in a large venue; the second night was in a concert hall setting with instrumentals, acoustics and stripped-down songs. For those "Gala Events," they encouraged people to "dress to impress," and some people really did show up in tuxes and evening gowns. I thought it was a really creative (and exciting) way to structure a tour.

Why would he call Ally into the studio to help remix one song for a minor band? It's more likely that they were all already working on something together when that came across his desk, and they teamed up on that, too.

I don't see why he wouldn't do that, though. Maybe they asked them to do the remix and Trent thought it would be a good idea to bring him in on it (you can certainly hear his style on it). Sure, they might have worked on some other stuff (I'm sure Alessandro will be on the next Ghosts record), but it's not a definite thing.

Now might be a good time to view the Bridge School acoustic videos - I have always found them strange (in a medieval sort of sense, not negatively strange) and absolutely captivating.

There's more if you just search around.

Well, if it makes you feel any better - when I did that interview with Trent once upon a time, he said he was very interested in that idea and that it would definitely be something that he would consider in the future. It was - by no means - something that was set in stone though.

I can imagine a bigger hassle for labels than releasing all of an artist's remixes onto one compilation - so many labels, ownerships and royalties to deal with!

That Peter Gabriel mix is one of the best Trent has ever done. Another one of my favorite's is the Puff Daddy victory remix. Badass when Busta Rhymes comes in and it has Trent all over the place. Strange combo of styles, but it works somehow.
