Slash and Duff were the ones who were always drunk, then.

People are making a big fuss about Ariana Grande.
I think this song is shit: annoying and half-baked.

I actually think Ariana Grande is "good". Her latest album isn't bad and she actually has a very good and strong voice, considering she's being roped in with bullshit pumped by Iggy Azelea. Give me Ariana over Miley any day, Ariana at least has some fucking talent and isn't completely full of horseshit like Miley, or to a lesser extent, Taylor Swift.

No they aren't... people are spending a lot of money to convince people that there should be a big fuss about Ariana Grande.

Pretty soon, as a direct result, people will be making a big fuss about Ariana Grande.
This would happen even if her album was 40 minutes of armpit-fart-sounds.

I stopped caring about the VMAs and MTV in general around 1996/1997. Not sure how relevant it is nowadays as bands can have their videos on Youtube.

Yeah, a video for a Taylor Swift song that played like JC's "Hurt" would be downright uncanny. I'm picturing an aged, sickly Taylor Swift sitting alone in her mansion, brooding over her regrets. Doesn't quite fit. The video resembles GAP ads and iPod ads from the early 2000s, and given how ubiquitous those were I am assuming that was intentional. Taylor Swift has a lot of charisma, and is able to really sell her awful dancing, but the song is a dog's breakfast. She's been writing her own stuff for some time now, and collaborating with gee-whiz top 40 hitmakers like Max Martin, and that was the best she could do for a lead single? It couldn't carry an SNL skit.

Different ears respond to different things, as ever. I like enough Taylor Swift music, but "Shake it Off" did nothing for me. The pre-chorus is good. The rest sounds, to me, unfinished.

Iams conducts tests on dogs and cats. :-/

i had a gut feeling that i'd hear that (or something like it) in response. my boys wouldn't eat the blue buffalo stuff. sigh ...

on topic, why is everyone saying this ariana bell grande chick can sing? there's a HUGE muffle in her voice that drives me nuts. ray romano and that old guy from the sargento cheese ads have the same problem.

    i can't even ...

I'm just curious yet again, and I just wanted to be sure that I got this right, but Staind and Coldplay were often put into this category in ETS, right?

I'm actually not a fan of either band as of now, but I was just wondering.

I kinda liked Dysfunction. The rest I couldn't care less.

I certainly hope Coal Chamber has been mentioned in this thread.

That song is like a shitty version of We Will Rock You.
Some of the Matrix collaborations were misfires.

Other songs are great, especially the Atticus material like Open Up:

I didn't know if it was supposed to be funny but you got me rolling. It sounded like some random afterthought of a bunch of drunk dudes.

Their singles are usually pretty good - and they do have a well thought out concept and sound, sort of sweaty angsty suburban goth angst with a hint of bro. But yep they are always ridiculous and when they are bad, wow... they are bad. I felt slipknot were the perfect analogue, a bit more rural and unbridled. Pretty much the only two worthy bands from that crop
