Agreed. It looks to be a sad and devastating bit of history repeating.

I don’t think Biden can beat Trump.

The establishment worked double time to put Sanders down and also, more importantly, the younger voters didn’t show up like they should’ve. AGAIN. Additionally, some voters have this delusion where they think Biden is going to be Obama 2 and he isn’t. So many people voted against their own best interests. It’s maddening.

Like @theimage13, I hope I’m wrong. It’ll always be “what could have been” for me no matter what, but if Biden wins, I can make peace with that and with voting for him—the fourth worst candidate.

Edit—Biden is the fourth worst, not the second. Forgot about Williamson and Gabbard. My mistake.

I think it will be closer than it was in 2016, while Biden isn't super likable Hillary was a fucking dumpster fire. I STILL see hillbillies with their rusted out pickem up trucks rocking brand new "lOcK hEr Up" stickers on them. I still think Biden will get the popular vote and lose (I mean thats how every republican has "won" in the last 20 years) but the margin with be even more in his favor.

Republicans are going to have an absolute field day with Biden gaffs. It doesn't matter that it's because of the surgeries. It doesn't matter that it's not actually indicative of his mental capacity. It doesn't matter that Trump is a thousand times worse and most likely is completely riddled with dementia at this point. They're just going to take the piss while completely ignoring their own cult leader's flaws. They're going to post meme after meme of Biden with his hands on someone and scream about sexual predators. He's given them so much propaganda fuel. They've gotta be thrilled that it's "Creepy Joe" looking like the nominee.

And since Biden could hardly be considered progressive, a lot of Democratic voters who are desperate for change will stupidly sit this out in protest. It's gonna get into their heads that "if he's not progressive, what's the point in voting for him", ignoring the fact that there's a SCOTUS position riding on this election. The entire foundation of our democracy is crumbling, but just enough people are likely to ignore it that the freaking cult members who want to "make libs cry again" will get enough EC votes to win.

I hope to god I look back at this post some day and go "ha, boy was I wrong about this". But I don't see it happening any other way.
to be fair, a lot of Republicans are just assholes and would do this with anyone.

I think Biden has a shot. I think the black community will vote for Biden, which maybe Hillary didn't have that draw. In addition to which, I hope this time people have learned that they can't sit this out if they don't want Drump in office for another 4 years. Some people thought it was a no-brainer that Hillary would win over the Orange Cheeto. I'm hoping we'll have a better voter turnout.

I agree. The voter turnout numbers have been incredible. WAY more than 2016. Many rivaling 2007. I agree that I don’t think it was the Dem candidate in 2016 (she STILL has overwhelming support from black voters), it was Democrats thinking there was no way Trump could win. Nearly all the polls had him solidly losing. Dems were SHOCKED when he (barely) won the Electoral College. Complacency lost the election.

Now, stats are showing that blacks and suburban white women are turning out in RECORD numbers. They’re clearly sending a message: “We want Trump gone.”

It won’t MATTER what kind of shit is thrown out about Biden. There is 100x worse shit that is KNOWN about Trump. That wasn’t true in 2016. Trump was a mystery. Now, he’s Public Enemy to Democrats.

Democrat voters, waiting in line for HOURS, are already saying “we want TRUMP OUT.” That’s their #1 priority.

Republicans for Trump are going to be against EITHER Democrat candidate.

Trump asked his “people” at a rally in North Carolina on 2/29 who THEY want to win the Dem primary. He asks "who would be the weakest candidate against President Trump?" Watch who they pick (and he tells them to go vote for him in SC in the primary):

I already saw a survey Trump was sending around, asking people how they felt about Socialism. That would be Trump's biggest ammo. Bernie’s voters couldn’t show up for the primaries. They sure as Hell weren’t going to show up in November. Take away the black vote, you have a Trump landslide.

Same people over here who didn't think Brexit was going to happen, it wasn't that they didn't see it, they were just ignorant.

I think ignorant is perhaps the wrong term; naive, or misinformed at worst (re Brexit).

Trump, he’s been like a tapestry of all kinds of people so he can fool people more often; it’s a key part of his deception. He’s DELIBERATELY deceptive.

The one big thing that I think is being vastly underestimated in the November 2020 election is:

    Covid-19

It's going to be the Mortgage Crisis of 2008. But with deaths. Lots and lots of deaths.

This has the potential to be Bush Katrina x lots more.

I hate to say it (Karma) but ... yeah, pretty much.

I saw that nut job Elizabeth Hasselbeck guest-hosting on The View this morning (with no audience). She's crazy religious and crazy Republican conservative and she's saying we all should PRAY away the virus and to listen to our "great leader" and not to "panic" and to "stay close" to people because this isn't really a big deal.

Even Crazy Meghan McCain was looking at her, like, "wtf, gimme the hand sanitizer."

    It's just Darwinism.

if he gets infected, which is more likely:

1a) Let him die in office as a martyr

1b) cancel the elections because it isn't fair to run against him while he's sick (see turtle with his Supreme Court running-out-the-clock tactic)

    2) 25th amendment his ass right the fuck outta there

also, and this is morbid but I saw it:
The VP will have a higher chance than ever of becoming president next term.

They can’t cancel elections. Unconstitutional. Ain’t happening.

VP will probably get sick, too, because he’s praying with Liz Hasselbeck.

The way everything else is getting canceled at the moment, I would not be surprised at all if Election Day 2020 is canceled.

First, most states no longer only vote on one special day. Most states vote early, for two weeks or more in advance.

Also, the President can’t cancel elections; the Federal government has zero to do with elections. It’s possible that November elections would be conducted by mail only (not likely, more likely that elections are spaced out over a month-long period). But a President cannot affect state elections.

Hmm, I'm wondering if they're conflating the national turnout with MI? According to this it was down for the first time in 20 years in 2016.

I've heard some contrary things about Moore before but i always saw it coming from the most suspect places so I've never really been too sure about it. The criticisms about his finances and not donating anything for relief feel like those shots at climate change activists for flying in private jets to get around. Isn't the idea to use the tools available to you in the present to bring about the change of tomorrow? Moore has a voice and a platform because of his career, I mean he could choose not to use it at all i guess? he could choose not to bring attention to these issues and support progressive policies that work against his income status but he does. If he's really just a grifter then that's certainly disappointing as fuck and I've been blind to it.

There is no actual solid data that confirms any voter data. No state provides data regarding voter statistics post-vote. Pew uses census data, which is based on “random sampling” of voter information. The added reality is voter suppression, which is new after the VRA went away in 2013, which would not be considered in said “random sampling” in census data but is reality.

This coronavirus (if it doesn't completely destroy the country) will be the best thing to ever happen to Trump and his reelection.
