Best TV shows of the decade

Inspired by the 'best films of the decade' thread, I wanted to talk about the best television of the last 10 years. As much as I love film (and I am a HUGE film nerd) I may love television even more. There has been some absolutely incredible TV over the last decade.

Also, I know Breaking Bad started before 2010 but the last few seasons were in this decade so I think it counts.

My top ten, in this order:

    1. Breaking Bad
    2. BoJack Horseman
    3. The Americans
    4. The Returned*
    5. The Leftovers
    6. Silicon Valley
    7. Euphoria
    8. Fargo
    9. The Haunting of Hill House
    10. Transparent

Just outside the top ten: Black Mirror, American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson and Terriers.

It was SO HARD not to put Terriers on the list. Transparent beat it but just by a nose. And Transparent completely botched its ending (holy crap, did it botch the ending) but the first four seasons are still fantastic. Also, to be fair, I've only seen the first season of Fargo but holy CRAP was that an amazing season of television.

The Leftovers needs more love (it is one of the most unique shows in the history of TV) and The Americans is one of the finest television dramas ever, right up there with Breaking Bad and The Shield. It deserved a much bigger audience than it got.

*= the original French version, not the American remake

I hate to be that guy, but Community began in 2006. Breaking Bad and Parks also started last decade. My understanding was shows that began in 2010-present.

Only the first season was amazing, the other two drag the show down.

Community actually started in late 2009. And while you're right about Breaking Bad and Parks & Rec, I included them because those shows hit their creative peaks during this decade. It's cheating a bit, but so what?

Yeah, I was just about to say this. I'm always wishing that more people knew about this show, so it's cool to see it getting mentioned a whole bunch in this thread.

This is going to sound fairly ridiculous, but...that show honestly changed the whole way I think about life, about how people create these very shaky systems of meaning in life by each coming up with our own subjective interpretations of experiences that are fucking absurd and fundamentally unknowable. It's hard to think of any other movie or show that has given me such a paradigm shift. It's just the best fucking show ever.

Fellow Knick lover! That show was so amazing. Owen, Soderbergh, all the characters were top notch, and an amazing score by Cliff Martinez.

Seriously, no Counterpart lovers?!?! That show was amazing. Too bad Starz fucked it royally and decided to end it on season 2. The company behind the series wanted to take it elsewhere and almost had a deal in place to continue it, but it fell through last minute, leaving the show in limbo without a home. Now, you can't even find the show on Starz anymore or any streaming service for that matter. You can buy the series on Prime, but that's it. Such an amazing show and Starz won't even let you stream it anymore. Just weeks after its season 2 finale and they just took it off their app. It really fucked over fans who didn't get a chance to finish it.

I've enjoyed Star Trek: Discovery, although it has been very uneven. When it's good (the mirror universe, Talos IV), it's very good. But it can be bad, i.e, the series 2 finale.
