We were watching a documentary on socialism and my wife said, apropos of nothing, "You know it's too bad that every nice country is so expensive to live there" and I had to tell her that it's expensive because they are nice countries.

Also she apparently wants to move as soon as I retire so - counts on fingers - in 15-ish years at the very earliest. somewhere with a good exchange rate since she gets disability payments from the military.

We’ve been looking at Mérida, Mexico. HUGE number of American expats (more than anywhere else in the world). G and I already speak some Spanish (although G’s is far better than mine, immersion is the best way to improve).
