Very cool. I'd be interested in knowing what people think of it. It's generally darker than the original but also, I think it contains some of their best work from '85 to '86.

I've never used Spotify before but I'm surprised you were able to put it together. I think the only difference is that Spotify omits the first few seconds of A Question of Time.

    Some brief thoughts:
How can you not love Christmas Island? Dark, foreboding, not sure it gets any blacker than this.
I love the extended version of Fly on the Windscreen, it's especially great with the way it opens.
It's Called a Heart might be my favourite Depeche Mode song.
Shake the Disease is another great song.
I really like the synthy opening of Highland mix of Stripped.
This particular version of But Not Tonight is another favourite of mine.

I've always liked Depeche Mode, but didn't do a deep dive into their catalog until a few years back, so my favorite albums are all over the map:

    1. Violator
    2. Ultra
    3. Music for the Masses
    4. SOFAD
    5. Black Celebration
    6. Delta Machine
    7. Some Great Reward
    8. Exciter
    9. Playing the Angel
    10. Construction Time Again

Total rankings so far from the last two pages:

    76 Violator
    73 Black Celebration
66 Songs of Faith and Devotion
    64 Ultra
    60 Some Great Reward
    56 Music for the Masses
    51 Delta Machine
    50 Playing the Angel
    38 Exciter
    34 Sounds of the Universe
    34 Construction Time Again
    19 A Broken Frame
    16 Speak and Spell

*For the points system to work I only included input from those who ranked all 13 albums without ties (Substance242, frankie teardrop, Piko, NYRexall, Ryan, Shadaloo, Lanesax).
    *13 points for 1st... 12 points for 2nd... 11 points for 3rd... etc.
*Sounds of the Universe wins the tie-breaker against Construction Time Again because it was ranked higher in 4 of the 7 rankings.

This thread has inspired me to re-listen to all the Depeche Mode albums so I will add my rankings soon, once I've figured it out.

We’re thrilled to finally report that Depeche Mode are back in the studio. Working with a new producer, the band have just finished the first string of studio sessions on what is to become their 14th album.
Sessions began in Santa Barbara on April 12th and wrapped this past weekend. Work will resume later this month.
Looking at the schedules for “Sounds Of The Universe” and “Delta Machine”, the timing could indicate a spring 2017 album release and tour.
This will be their first album since 2001s “Exciter” without Ben Hillier in the producer’s chair. Hillier helmed the sessions for “Playing The Angel”, “Sounds Of The Universe” and “Delta Machine”, producing more than 50 tracks for the band.
To mark the end of this era, we’ve put together a playlist of our favourite tracks from the Hillier-years. Check it out below.
    On Spotify (compiled by Glen)
    On Tidal (compiled by Peter)

    1. Violator (anywhere but the top spot just feels wrong)
    2. Ultra (personal preference)
    3. Black Celebration
(4-5) these two feel low on my list, this speaks to the strength of the DM catalogue)
    4. SOFAD
    5. Some Great Reward
    6. Music for the Masses
    7. Playing the Angel
    8. Speak & Spell
    9. Construction Time Again
    10. A Broken Frame
(11-13, none of these really grabbed me in any significant way)
    11. Delta Machine
    12. Sounds of the universe
    13. Exciter

although i agree with you fully, as the advocate of the devil, i will come to the defense of said hipsters and say that perhaps those albums have some sort of temporal significance to them?

Like, for me, as much as i fucking ADORE the fragile and tds, my favorite nin record will always be broken because it was this "good lord how does this exist" record that introduced like 12 year old me to NIN. And the years between 11 and 12 and 14 or 15 are pretty fucking important to human animals.

This is entirely personal, I'm not an uber-fan so take it as it comes

    1. Music for the Masses
    (2-3 are close)
    2. Black Celebration
    3. Violator
    4. Sounds of the Universe
    (5-7 could be tied)
    5. Exciter
    6. SOFAD
    7. Ultra
    8. Playing the Angel

Excluded because I haven't listened them enough / at all: Delta Machine; anything pre-Black Celebration.

I'm not so certain they're hipsters for preferring Ultra. Depeche Mode have released some very different albums so I can understand why fans may gravitate to one moreso than another. Ultra and Exciter don't have the immediacy of previous albums or the catchy pop songs but they have great mood and atmosphere. I found both albums have a depth that takes time to appreciate.

But I definitely understand what you mean. Nostalgia, sentimental value and other subjective factors will influence how one perceives an album; and this always makes the discussion more interesting. It would be a boring discussion if everyone picked Violator on the basis that it's considered, by so many others, to be a classic or the band's best.

I can't understand how more people don't love this song:

My adoration for violator is also nostalgia dependent. It was blasting over the loudspeakers of the dallas waterpark where i spent my summers when i was like ten years old. i thought Policy of Truth was saying "on a SEEEAAA of truth!" and have always associated the synth sounds with water

Devotional has to be my favorite live release ever. Dave still is after all these years, in my top 5 singers of all time. Martin has to be my favorite all around performer ever. I hope they release Devotional in HD one day.

@DMLiveWiki Can you recommend the best Gahan + Soulsavers recording from the last string of dates from Angels & Ghosts? I want to burn a live disc from one of those gigs to listen to in the car.

I'm afraid I haven't really listened to much from that tour, and in fact I'm pretty sure I still have a few things from that tour left to put up - but mostly ancillary stuff like an interview that aired on TV...

I'd probably recommend https://www.depechemode-live.com/wik...s,_CA/Source_2 and use https://www.depechemode-live.com/wik...,_USA/Source_1 for some bonus tracks.

Sep 5th, 2016 | New Video Collection in Nov
Well it looks likes a new 3 disc Video Collection from Depeche Mode will be hitting the shelves in November according to the British Board Of Film Classification. While the preliminary details look really promising, there are a few items overlooked, so we’re not confirming that is the official track list. As we all know, things can/might change… Usually when it gets to this point, it should be the final track list, so we’ll update you if there are any changes which it’s looking like it should have. A press releases should be showing up on this shortly, so we’ll confirm the details then. There hasn’t been an update to the bands video singles collection since The Best Of Videos back in 2006 were released on DVD, so this is a great time for an update and a nice present for that Devotee member of the family for the Holidays. This version will see band commentary, an unreleased cut of Stripped, and some other items making their debut to the DM video collection. All and all.. a nice package. As I’m sure a lot of you are, I’m really looking forward to the band commentary. It will be great to hear the bands thoughts at this point in their career as they look back on their videos from their current perspectives. Through the years each band member has made comments on their early videos, good and bad, so it will be interesting to see what they think of those days from where they are in their lives now.

Fans are blowing up about the possibility of Alan's return (because of the CTA imagery, Alan's first record he fully worked with the Mode on). But I HIGHLY doubt that, I would assume it's the minisite for the videos release. The video release is a total yawn fest.. We have 86-98 and the videos since are meh...

bands like depeche mode that have been around forever do these periodic greatest hits type releases to put them back on the radar before announcing a new album.

nothing more than good business here. that being said. i'll obviously buy it.
