Wow finally. It's been more than 16 years since I last saw them live. I think I'm overdue now, since the self-titled album.
Fingers crossed for international dates...
God I hate the amphitheater that the tour is stopping at in KC but it's still 100% worth it for this lineup. I'm stupid excited that I'll get to see Poppy open for the Deftones. That shit fucking rules.
the NYC & NJ dates are both equally appealing outdoor venues. Hopefully get hooked up for both shows.
We are definitely in that common phase of a new Deftones album where they seemingly recorded and talked about the thing ages ago and now no one's even talking about it at all
Considering how bad a reception Gore got and how heavy that "Brief Exchange" song Chino did in 2018 is, I got a feeling this album is going to be a lot heavier....Fuck White Pony 2.0.....I want self titled 2.0
I love Gore
Anything in the vein as Diamond Eyes/Koi No Yokan will do the trick for me.
Live Nation pre-sale code: SOLO
I got pretty good seats for Chicago.
Scored pit for KC. Super excited for this show. Hoping both Deftones and Gojira will have their new albums out by the time the show rolls around.
Would love another album like "Saturday Night Wrist", probably it will be like "Self Titled"
We're really lubing up for another list off now lol
They played Smile, recently maybe Eros is finally in the cards.
I think Eros sits alongside Tapeworm in the "will never see the light of day in our lifetime unless a close associate of the band steals it and gives it to the masses"
As much as I love Deftones, Gojira is going to blow them off the stage all tour. I've seen Gojira a few times now and they are one of the tightest and best sounding live bands I've ever seen.
That said, I've still never seen Deftones but this is going to change that. I'll show up late to miss Poppy though, fuck that shit.
I'll never understand this mentality. If you don't like an opener that's fine, but to openly pay money for a show and then not even try to give that performer a chance. You don't like the music? Cool, still have the respect to like just sit there and clap after each song. Deftones obviously picked Poppy because THEY like her as an artist, so the least you can do is to just show up and have respect.
That’s ridiculous. Sorry. I’m paying to see Deftones. Gojira is a nice bonus for which I am thankful.
There’s nothing good about Poppy. I have zero interest and as I said, I plan to merch shop during her hopefully short set.
If I am stuck watching/hearing a bad opener (and we’ve all been there. Remember The Moving Units? Holy. Shit.), I’ll just quietly fuck around on my phone or talk to whomever came with me or check out the merch. I paid to see the main attraction. If the opener is something I’ve never heard before, I’ll give them a shot. That’s not the case here. Poppy sucks.
I got my tickets for Deftones. 17 years since last I saw them.
I’m with you. Just scored some swanky tickets to the Philly show. Last time I saw them was in August of 2001 at the Rolling Rock Town Fair (Latrobe, PA). They profoundly sucked that day, including their unnecessary Weezer cover. Free beer is a bad recipe for Chino. Here’s to hoping that they are better this August. And lots of Koi No Yokan material please!!
Haha so my friend and I we're not the only one who thought they sucked live? I think we are more "forgiving" now, we didn't saw lots of live shows before them.
Hah! Don’t want to get skewered for this...but for every Hearts/Wires Kimmel performance there’s multiple Hole In The Earth national TV or PinkPop 2003 performances. For every Digital Bath 2000 NBC performance, there’s numerous incoherent drunk/bloated Chino festival performances.
I'm a huge Deftones fan, but I've never liked them live. I have no idea why, I feel like they're better on headphones for some reason.
When my friends said they sucked live back in the Around the Fur days, I didn't believe them. I saw them the following year and they were pretty good, but didn't blow my socks off. Saw them two more times after that over the years and they were just... Ok. Headphones all day.
Only time I didn't the like the Deftones live was during the self titled era. It was my first time seeing them live (and they only time I saw Chi playing). Next time I saw them was twice during the Diamond Eyes era, once during the KNY, tour and they completely KILLED. I think Sergio Vega re-energized the band (plus I think Chino+band were doing drugs/distanced from themselves during the SNW era). I did see them three times during the Gore tour and they were cool, but the one time I saw them for Koi No Yokan was AMAZING, at the Showbox Sodo Seattle. This is what they played that night:
Rosemary
Feiticeira
Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
My Own Summer (Shove It)
Passenger
Rocket Skates
Diamond Eyes
You've Seen the Butcher
Digital Bath
Knife Prty
Bloody Cape
Fireal [First part only]
Engine No. 9
Rivière
Change (In the House of Flies)
Tempest
Poltergeist
Bored
Root
7 Words
So many gems...Bloody Cape, Riviere, the all Adrenaline Encore. I remember the entire (small) venue being a mosh pit during BQAD. I was moving with the flow of people around me. It was beautiful.
