Artists Inspired by Music: Interscope Reimagined limited edition vinyl reissues

    A post shared by on

Looks like some kind of limited edition NIN vinyl release coming as part of interscope's 30th anniversary celebration.

EDIT. Based on this article, looks like it's going to be Broken with art by Emily Mae Smith, and TDS with art by Richard Prince.

welp those are going to be gone in seconds.

someone help me out with a bot so I can snag one?

"Horrible service and just a joke of a company."

"Struggling to get a refund, return, exchange.... anything."

and it's probably TDS related judging by choice of song but that could be a curveball of most-well-known and then it's something else.

regardless I'm anticipating being disappointed. the artwork is already iconic, how could it be improved?

I did some homework, NTWRK is a shopping app if you don't know. Get it on playstore or the appstore. This is like some limited sneaker release shit, think NIKE x OFFWHITE type shit. Going to be hard to get. That whole sphere is full of opportunists looking to make a buck. I'd like to know TRs thoughts about Interscope blessing this outfit to "reimagining" his album's artwork to sell some records out the "backdoor" to "industry friends" who will get all the stock and will immediately resell at inflated crack smoking prices on the secondary market. (I *DO NOT* want them both.)

So...this is going to be Broken and TDS with different cover art? ...and people want this?
    Not being shitty, genuinely asking.

oh so definitely not worth paying attention to, let alone spending money on. It's good to have my expectations set early.

That guy would be mildly interesting if he wasn't such a prick, and if he didn't make hundreds of thousands of dollars off other people's work.

Yeah, this is pretty stupid. An interesting selection of albums, most of them great because they already had awesome artwork.

I had no idea who that was but a google search turns up some rather interesting articles that show he is truly a terrible human and barely an artist.

so, thank you for managing my expectations as well.

An Emily Mae Smith image search brings me a lot of...sexy brooms?

My first reaction seeing NTWRK was it'd be an NFT. Sweet Jesus TR, don't go NFT.

There are plenty of albums with terrible artwork to rework. We even did this in my art class back in 1995.

TDS is not one anyone picked because it was actually great. Why anyone would even try this publicly is bone-headed

TDS - an open mouth with (I guess?) blood smeared around it.

Broken - a thread going through a pin that has snapped and is… broken, placed inside a futuristic looking… puppy head silhouette?

Holy fuck. Thought that was a joke. "It took broom, to make me realize..."

And I have a funny feeling Reznor probably won't even bother to comment on these.

How does stuff like this get the green light? I’m convinced when things like this happen all parties involved had to have been at least partially drunk.

Agreed. They’re both awful. I’m assuming poor creative briefs and quick turnaround times. Mills’ TDS is a classic, so I don’t understand the point in even thinking about revisiting, but the Broken redo is genuinely appalling.

Obviously the art for the "Downward Spiral" doesn't hold a candle for the original Russell Mills art, but at least looks kind of decent; the one for "Broken" looks like a fuckin' joke!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it... (pun intended)

Well at least the horny broom is there, I guess I would have been more worried if it were missing than seeing it.

The other one is too bright for that album. It's like he never listened to it and didn't understand the assignment at all.

This sums it up well, although I'd say that applies to both.

Hot trash. I hope TR has something passive aggressive to say about it.

What a relief, now I don't have to worry about trying to get either of these.

Nervermind... that shit is trash. This is not canon in NIN. Everything I initially said is true except for thinking I would want to add this to my collection. (I edited that statement.)

I kinda like both of those artworks, in the abstract.

But they absolutely do not suit the albums they're meant to go with at all. Were the artists told which albums these pieces were supposed to go with?

Well, that’s disappointing. I thought it was an Interscope cash grab rather than anything NIN approved. Ugh.
