Ugh...of course, I have graduate loans, and not undergrad loans....

    I'm happy for others though.

Yeah, that thread just kept going, it felt like carpet bombing. Sad thing is, I have no idea if any of it really maters nowadays, but at least someone's hitting back. I feel they may have been encouraged by the tidal wave of "This you ?" on Twitter regarding the corporate reimbursements of student debt to those who were bemoaning debt forgiveness.

Also there's a convo around here about the creation of a student allowance* ; nothing in the public discourse, but people are starting to say that having an education while working isn't viable anymore, especially with the increased cost of living. Just like we have a minimal revenue in case you're unemployed, some say student should be eligible to the same sort of rights (you're not eligible to said allowance, the RSA, until you're 25, which excludes most students).

What I find interesting and kind of hilarious is that the exact same people are having the exact same reactions as what you're witnessing in the US. I saw someone argue that "my parents paid for my lodging, food and costs, but if I wanted anything else I had to pay for it, so an allowance would be unfair in regards to the efforts I made". Dude, your parents could pay for everything, and you think allowing those whose parents are poor or absent to have the same privileges as you is unfair ?

What I find funny is how different the goalposts are from one country to another, yet the tensions and dynamics remain the same. I don't know if we're spoiled or if you're incredibly fucked (well, I admit I tend to think that you're overall fucked guys, seen from this side of the Atlantic). I believe we're well aware of how thing run in the US and we're scared our government has been taking notes. There's talk of reforms of the public school system, namely to destroy it and pass the torch to the private sector. And we've seen our education system being gutted and left to fend for itself for what, 20, 30 years now ? And now our government is saying "see ? It doesn't work." No shit.

To get back on this thread's tracks, I mean that we're watching closely how you're doing, as every social advance on your part will make our own regression a bit more difficult and unlikely. It gives us ammo to argue "see ? Their system was shit and they backtracked on it".

    * context : unless you're attending a private or specific school, education is free. You have to pay for all the rest in most cases, lodging, food, all other expenses.

Mar-a-Lago redacted search affidavit released, Pacer system crashed (not totally unusual for Pacer), this is hilarious and exhilarating. People yelling “STOP REFRESHING!” re the Politico site, which has published the redacted affidavit.

Trump screaming in all caps “PRESIDENTIAL RECORDS ACT” on Truth Social which he actually violated and which Act does not help him.

It reminds me of a great 80's basketball quote.

The team was a disaster. The basketball player: "The ship be sinking" . Reporter follow up question: "How low can it go?" Player: "Sky's the limit"

45:38-1:12:54 has a very good breakdown of all the midterm senate seats in play, with polling numbers, commentary etc. As well as some fun roasting of Masters in Arizona & whoever the putz is runnign for the Repubs in Colorado. Dems seem more and more likely to hold the senate as well as probably pick up some seats. Implications of that are discussed as well....filibuster reform?!?

that's exactly what everyone should be saying but I'll be damned if the guy didn't just shrug it off and try to start again.

    that's good, right?

The big picture: However, U.S. District Court Judge Leigh Martin May did limit the scope of the subpoena, saying Graham could not be asked about his “investigatory fact-finding on telephone calls to Georgia election officials," including "how such information related to his decision to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election."
    Oh.
What's next: Graham is allowed to appeal Thursday's ruling, meaning his testimony may again be delayed.
    Oh.

    edit:

    OTOH...

    I expected nothing otherwise.

Even if he does go to trial...would we ever see something that's not a hung jury?

Even if he's convicted it's going to be a simple fine and even that he will spend his life evading and not paying. It's always going to be nothing unless he actually goes to an actual prison, which I won't believe is a possibility

My wife told me to continue speaking on the red tidal wave and wouldn't tell me why.

I'm 99% sure she thinks that whatever I say WON'T happen.
