New Cypress Hill “Elephants on Acid” is pure fire. Best thing they’ve done in 20 years. Production from Muggs is dark & album flows perfectly, no skippers here. Lyrics on point as well. Check it.

If anything cooler than this ever comes out, you guys let me know.
I was at home sick this week and went down a youtube hole trying to understand, and cringe at new young rappers... much of this included watching a lot of No Jumper vlog. Something I noticed is that most of these rappers don't really perform their material live. Their DJ plays the album tracks and they just selectively yell or sing a long to their vocal tracks. It's like bad karaoke..... and most of them perform like this. The young audiences don't seem to mind. Am I old and out of touch? or is it the children who are wrong?
Suge Knight is finally going to prison:

So there's apparently a Flipmide reunion album on the way, with the whole squad: Busta, Spliff, Rampage, Baby Sham, Rah Digga, AND Lord Have Mercy!
I'm so damn happy!
The Imperial is one of my all time favorite albums. I saw them live in like 97.
I'm REALLY surprised Lord Have and Busta patched things up, but I'm glad they did.

I have not been keeping up with the hip hop scene, but I am reviving this thread because the one about a certain song with a NIN sample seems to be getting a bit off topic.
I'm a little put off by a recent trend in mainstream hip hop. A trend dominated by young men with face tattoos, short dreadlocks/braids (bright colors optional), short songs with laughable lyrics that make Kanye sound like a scholar, beats that are almost trap, vocals that at times barely even sound like rapping, etc. Most of it can be classified as "mumble rap" with 6ix9ine and Lil Pump being notable examples or rappers in the trend (the former has been getting lots of media attention lately, to the point where I could no longer ignore his existence).
This post is not to bash modern hip hop, but to ask how to get past the crap that's dominating the mainstream. Where do you go to discover better hip hop that doesn't get as much commercial recognition? Preferably relatively new artists (from the mid-00s and later). Most of you appear to have dug beneath the surface quite a while ago, citing performers to counter claims that hip hop is as bad as the mainstream is making it appear.
I listen to a lot of podcasts and interviews. I'll usually check out someone I'm not familiar with if brought up by another musician/artist. Down the rabbit hole...
If you're looking for a (relatively) mainstream and accessible rapper with talent, J. Cole has been killing it for over a decade now.
Meek Mill is a popular mainstream rapper who has a traditional flow you would probably like. He trend hops with those flows you don't like with certain songs and those are generally cringey, but the lion's share of his work is solid rap with a traditional flow.
This song is his biggest and he loses his fucking mind on it (at 1:37):
Flatbush Zombies are excellent too. Major Gravediggaz vibes at times. Love their verses on this A$AP Mob posse cut:
Your Old Droog just dropped a new album out of nowhere. Very old school sounding. Here's a track with Doom from it:
imo one of the best rappers this decade has been billy woods. He recently released an album called Hiding Places. Here's a video off it:
Listen to the whole album here: https://billywoods.bandcamp.com/album/hiding-places

I've been listening to Jpeg Mafia lately. I really love his Veteran album. I did'nt even know that he was on tour with Vince Staples until like a week after they had done a show that was nearby me. And coachella is waaaay too expensive.
Ice Cube is pushing 50 and still putting out bangers. Dude truly is the G.O.A.T.
Migos are trash but man this Mustard beat is so good.
Seeing the Wu-Tang Clan tonight and cannot describe how excited I am. These guys were my heroes back in freshman year of College.
Ok, top 5 WU-albums. Go!
1. Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
2. Only Built For Cuban Linx (Raekwon solo)
3. Liquid Swords (Genius/GZA solo)
4. Ironman (Ghostface solo)
5. Ghost Dog Soundtrack (produces by The RZA)

I miss rap groups. It’s mostly all solo stuff now with half-assed collaborations , and everyone and their great grandmother is a “producer”.
1. Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
2. Liquid Swords - (Genius/GA)
3. Only Built for Cuban Linx (Raekwon)
4. Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version (Ol' Dirty Bastard)
5. Iron Man (Ghostface)
They were fucking awesome last night but Method Man was a no show for reasons unknown. So, that part was disappointing but if you get 8 out of 9/10 members of the Clan, its a good night. If you are going and want the limited city specific shirts in Large or XL, you should probably get there early as the Boston shirts sold out pretty quickly. They went on around 9:15ish. All of 36 Chambers and some of the usual solo stuff. ODB's son was a highlight (Brooklyn Zoo). Such a great night.

3. Gravediggaz

This is so hard. Wu-Tang Forever, Tical, Ironman, Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars, Supreme Clientele, Bulletproof Wallets, Heavy Mental & The Swarm are all riiiiiiight there for me after #5.
I've recently picked up most* of that Soul Jazz "Boombox" series (subtitled: "Early Independent Hip Hop, Electro and Disco Rap 1979-82/3"), anyone else explore this at all?
* - missing the first Boombox compilation
I saw Snoop Dogg and Ice-T last night (with a guest appearance of Warren G) and all I can say is if the Snoop Dogg & Friends tour is coming anywhere near you, GO. Easily one of the most fun shows I have ever gone to.
