Every band member who shouts "YEAH" is literally stealing food from the mouths of the professional "YEAH" session backing singers. They should be ashamed.

uh...did you actually read the review? grimes didn't say it, it's from a review someone wrote, and it's accurate (also, there's nothing wrong with that statement).

your condescending attitude is getting REALLY boring.

I'm a few listens in now, and while some of it annoys me, I think about half of it is brilliant. Roll on London.....and Glasgow.

    Don't feed the troll...

Looking forward to listening to this as my pop and R&B sensibilities have ripened with age, and I've grown out of our dear trolls attitudes towards that 'type' of music. First single definitely grew on me more than I thought it would.

Wow. This Pitchfork review is complete and utter barf. If there's any single example of what a white soccer mom trying to be "hip with it" looks like in 2015, this is it. Completely on board with the numerical score, though.

Same for "Flesh Without Blood", which is the sweetest fuck-off of 2015, one that highlights that there is much more to Boucher's voice than Visions ever had a chance to reveal. The song is Boucher eating the lunch that Miley packed, may it be #blessed with infinite stadium-EDM remixes.
The album is an epic holiday buffet of tendentious feminist fuck-off, with second helpings for anonymous commenters and music industry blood-suckers. Her conflicted, vertiginous relationship with the fast fame that followed Visions seems to have led her to a place of DGAF liberation.

To each their own, but that was one of the few Pitchfork reviews that I feel actually got it right and captured the spirit of the album.

Really digging the album! I gotta say, I like the demo of Realiti more. It lost a little bit of it's umph/feeling with me here. I would really be interested to hear the demos for the entire album to see if it retained any of that. I still really like the album.

Art Angels is growing on me (still a bigger fan of Visions).

Wish she would have played a bit longer in Seattle a couple weeks back. I guess one could always say that, but c'mon Claire, give us at least an hour and a half.

That being said, still a great show!

seeing her this Fri in DC at the 930 club. bummed out that her show is now an "early show" (to accommodate some other performers at 10pm). same thing happened the last time she was here (at the U St. Music Hall) and the set just felt kinda short, with no option to extended it anyway

Grimes says she wants people to start thinking of her like Trent Reznor.

    Eh, she's not there yet.
Trent Reznor? Art Angels is not an album Trent Reznor would write.
I'd love to hear Grimes' Downward Spiral, but she's too busy writing Rhianna music.
I just don't feel the excitement for this album will last.

I don't think she's really referring to her music specifically, moreso the persona.

i think she means in terms of the fact that she does pretty much everything herself and wants people to take her seriously in that regard. she wants people to think of her being grimes the way people think of trent being NIN.

Exactly. And she's not going to be a slave and play what people thinks she "should" be playing, or how she "should" sound. She's not gonna try and keep altering the same album over and over.

Man, yeah she actually hit the nail on the head with the Trent Reznor comparison.

I genuinely feel like, with how polarizing her new album is, and her drive to be something great, she's going to be around in the music industry for quite some time. Not necessarily even making music as Grimes either. And I know so many people that love to knock her brief moment of self doubt that happened a year or two ago, but any great artist needs to experience that, to allow themselves to figure out exactly who it is they want to be, and what it is they want to do.

Now I'm just over here waiting for her to be booked on SNL.

forgot to mention that i finally listened to the new album yesterday. and, actually, my wife and i listened to it three times (we were driving around a lot yesterday).

it's fucking fantastic. flesh without blood, kill v. maim, and realiti are definitely my favorites, but there wasn't a single song on there i didn't like.

there's definitely a 90s vibe once you get a bit into the album, but nothing that sounded like TLC or anything, so i don't know where that comparison came from at all. it definitely does have a bit of a twang to it, though, which makes it pretty fun. i also love how joyful it is in general. i can't stand listening to happy music the majority of the time but this album just makes me want to fucking DANCE!

Seeing Grimes live tonight at the Metro. I may or may not ask her to marry me. Figure it's a 50/50 shot.

I think of her as a sweet, female counterpoint to Liam Howlett (The Prodigy)
(the breakbeat tracks especially conjure this comparison.)

i haven't listened to the new record yet, but i've got it and will listen to it soon.

I wish she would stick to breakbeat.

i don't know what qualifies something as "breakbeat" but i can tell you that the new album is fantastic and i can't stop listening to it.
