This is a strange case- I mean, the guy just came home without his girlfriend and IMMEDIATELY lawyered up. He wouldn't say a word to anyone.

They left together and he came home without her, now they've found her body there. If this had been some kind of emergency and accidental death, he'd have reported it, instead of just showing up at home without her. It doesn't take much to jump to the obvious conclusion here....
And when he showed up at home, he showed up at one that him, her and his parents lived in together. He was there for 6 days, and his parents are refusing to talk, only sending the police to their lawyer.
The family says he took his backpack and wandered off into the woods, which could be, but his family has to be protecting him....there's nothing else that makes any sense here at all.

I've been following this one pretty damn closely.
What I'm calling strange is the ABSOLUTE REFUSAL to cooperate, at all, in any way, by Laundrie. That's pretty damn weird.
No fabricated explanation, no "last place I saw her."
I spend way more time than I'd like to admit watching/listening to/reading about true crime, and that's just not a very common strategy.
And then, just as they're closing in on her, (and I'm sure he was following the search,) he bounces.
She'd SAID she was afraid he was going to abandon her, in the body cam footage. That's pretty extreme in and of itself.

It's very bad public optics, but (to play devil's advocate) if the person is actually completely innocent but looks guilty as hell from the start, communicating only through a lawyer as an intermediary is maybe a very wise strategy.
Admittedly, it would also be the smartest strategy if they were guilty.

Having legal counsel is always a good idea if possible. What makes this really suspicious is that he appears to have refused to provide any information to the police after lawyering up.

Ok so now, Brian Laundie's parents claim they went to look for him in the nature preserve on Wednesday, saw his car, and found a note on it. They left it there so he could drive back home.
Then, they went back on Thursday and retrieved the car.
Ummmmm...yeah. Wtf.

yeah, that's pretty awesome. I saw an article talking about how they kept it a secret because it might hurt their brand. She was already something of a gay icon so I dunno, but hindsight is what it is.
This, OTOH, I don't know if it's funny or sad. It's kind of both?
On one side you have a black man who is having issues with a home mortgage and that's sad.
On the other side you have an extremely ineffective Surgeon General and that they won't verify he worked there is hilarious.
(there's a third side, but only because I'm privy to Federal HR and howwethey don't verify employment but use a third party contractor for that. HR should have communicated that to him so he just showed how much they don't want to talk to him)
