and yeah, the reveal of Selmy was good, but they couldn't have pulled off his hidden identity like they did in the book. There's no way that could have been done without it coming across as ridiculous.

Just did some internet searching, it appears Strong Belwas is definitely not in this season. Damn it. I guess I just assumed he'd show up along with Selmy, he's such a bad ass in the books. Maybe they'll work him in later in the show.

Season kicked off in a big way, in any case. The scene in which Tywin unloaded on Tyrion was so shocking, with the little guy being absolutely lost for words for the first time we've ever seen, and the way Peter Dinklage played it, hunched over like he'd been physically brutalised. So horrible, and so good.
I like that they took the time to focus on just a few sets of characters and advance each by a significant amount, rather than trying to squeeze everyone into the episode and accomplishing little (which I think the show has tended towards at times).

Wow, people, people, people... this episode is probably enhanced by knowing the books (because it makes you look forward to what's coming). The small fight at the end probably wasn't in the books, was it? It's just the artificial showdown of this episode. Still, I enjoyed the episode. The Margaery/Joffrey scene was the best. She's really trying...
Sometimes, I wish they'd kill off some of the characters because they distract (Theon....).

George R.R. Martin confirmed on his website that "because of the simplification of Ser Barristan Selmy's return to the show and the removal of his Arstan alter ego, the character Strong Belwas will not appear on the show."

Great episode. Loved the stuff with Podrick, I was cracking up. Not sure I like what's going on with Theon, especially with the preview of next week, but maybe they're just fucking with us. The ending was excellent.
