I only mean compared to the rest of the album. I love the song, it just doesn't seem to really fit in with everything else on there to me.

I don't think it's out place, really. But it does stand out purely by the fact that it was the last song written for the album, while most of others were hanging around for a while.

yeah, for sure. I always felt like that. The rest of the album has such a different feel to it. It’s not bad that it is on there, it just feels really unique. Only thing that comes close is terrible lie.

Pretty Hate Machine is the sound of an artist in flux. Trent was trying to find his own sound at the time, and he was moving away from the synthpop sounds of the bands he was in before Nine Inch Nails. If you listen to the Purest Feeling bootleg, it's much more in line with that sound than the final album. Head Like A Hole is kind of Trent's way of saying "here's what I'm really into and where I want to go".

The remix is crazy, like it was recorded in a circus fun house. I'm not sure of the copy you have but it does sound processed. I have an mp3 copy that I ripped directly from the vinyl when it was released, shoot me a message if you want a link
