    NIN-Spotting 2013 (Part 1/2)

Remember when we used to split these things off every month? Here's the 2012 edition. I suspect the 2013 thread will be much more active as the year progresses.

Since there's supposed to be new NIN stuff popping up this year I guess.

He might be referring to NIN touring?

Right Where It Belongs used by Charlie Brooker on his 2012 Wipe programme tonight. I think he's a fan of NIN...

I think Connie Huq (his wife (seriously, Blue Peter marrying Brooker?)) is one, maybe she put him onto it.

I think she's more than she's cracked up to be, especially after seeing her on the Reality TV ep of Screenwipe, and now knowing she's a NIN fan? It's like Matt Baker being scarily and subversively political

edit: now in Spotify playlist form: http://open.spotify.com/user/charlie...uZesvIYHnN9ilP (I thought he'd used more NIN before, but maybe I imagined it. I could've sworn he used some Ghosts tracks)

I think Ghosts was used in the gameshow he did about TV (I've forgotten the name, though I saw it being filmed like 5 times)

All wishful thinking aside, do you guys think NIN will tour in 2013?

And isn't it weird that the HTDA camp has gone silent (again)?

Not really. Rob -- who I'm sure does all the social-media work -- was on a long honeymoon, and then there was Christmas and New Year's.

I know you disagreed in the other thread, but I'm starting to believe the Sound City Music Players could be the only version of NIN live this year (and that would probably just be a couple NIN songs and TR helping out with QOTSA, Foo Fighters, etc. songs). I hope I'm wrong about that. We should have a better idea on January 14 (possible coachella lineup date?) or January 18 (first SCMP show).

I somewhat agree that Trent could be a part of the Sound City show(s?), I just disagree that that's what he meant by "2013" on reddit.

I mean, HTDA is gonna go "big" some time early this year, right? It has to. Album release and tour. I think that'll keep him busy.

    I've gone off-topic.

Saw a movie called "Murder by Proxy" on Netflix about the rise in spree shootings in the United States. Both 999,999 and Corona Radiata were used. 999,999 was used three times, one of which was during security camera footage of some guy shooting up his workplace. Kind of felt wrong to hear NIN being used behind footage of actual murders.

He did say he was in rehearsals with more than one band. Could be that he was referring to HTDA and the Sound City show.

i don't quite understand why a band like that would cover wish and just play it EXACTLY like NIN. i mean, i don't like hippie stoner jam bands, so i wouldn't want to hear a version of wish done in that style, but i would think their own fans would rather hear that than hear them doing a mediocre job of imitating nine inch nails.

decent Hurt cover. Wish the vocals were a tad louder/forceful in some spots.

I actually like UMG (for a "hippie stoner jam band", they have more discipline and rigidity in their playing) but yeah, that cover sucked. The drums sounded cool, though.

So, I'm watching this video and all of a sudden there's a pic of Trent holding the Oscar at 23:21. Weird.

I watched it earlier this month and noticed the same thing. Couldn't really figure out why. Since it's about gaming journalists being biased, are they referring to Academy Award judges being biased as well? Trent is a newcomer to film scores and won. Surely it can't be that. It seems that it's totally unrelated and the person who put the picture together has no idea who's on the picture.

Totally agree with you on that buddy. I have a feeling a lot of their fans wouldnt even know the song. But, I will admit, I think they did a pretty good job on the cover. The guitar sounds are a little off of course, but I don't think there's really any way you can cover NIN and completely nail the guitar sounds. its just dosent happen.

My issue with that cover is the fact that it comes across as "Nine Inch Nails karaoke" rather than a legitimate attempt to cover the song. Sure, the song might not have translated well with their style, but at least it would have sounded genuine.

One thing they're known for live is not just covering songs, but the depth of variety of who they choose to cover. Everything from Michael Jackson to King Crimson. They even did a cover of the mash-up of "Closer" and the Beatles' "Come Together".
