fuck yes, California continues to make progress on gun rights this year
California Gun Waiting Period Laws Ruled Unconstitutional

They challenged this on both the 2nd amendment an the 14th.
Basically, the 10 day no longer applies to repeat gun buyers who have already passed all the requirements during their first purchase. The continued 10 day waits for additional gun purchases served only to reduce gun buying, not to increase safety.
Nobody commenting on the 9 year old killing her gun instructor by accident with an UZI? At Bullets & Burgers. You really couldn't make this stuff up
http://globalnews.ca/news/1527967/u-...y-girl-9-dies/
I was about to post a link to this news just about now.
How can such a civilized, 1st-world country find this kind of behavior normal. I said it before and I'll say it again. This is mind blowing. What kind of parents take their 9yo girl to the shooting range in the first place, let alone teach her to fire an Uzi. You gotta be fucking insane.
I thought only terrorists were suppose to teach kids how to shot machine guns.

Well, firstly, the reason that place exists is because those types of weapons are so far out of reach of the average citizen because of the ban on full-auto weapons. That makes it this exotic thing that many people want to try, much like renting an exotic car.
Secondly, wtf was that instructor thinking? I wouldn't get in the passenger seat of an exotic car with a 9 year old and tell her to floor it just because she managed to shift it out of park. Yes, accidents happen. Yes, a 9 year old can be taught to safely shoot a gun. No, this wasn't an example of either of those. This instructor made a shitload of bad decisions here.
If you are curious what gun owners are saying about this:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Firearms/com...ctor_with_uzi/
Just in case it's not extremely obvious, there isn't really any "teaching" here despite the presence of an "instructor." And I'm not saying that just because the instructor failed horribly. This was one of those stupid side-road attractions that you see. "Fire a machine Gun! Next Exit" type bullshit.
I feel horrible for that little girl. This shit is going to stay with her forever.
It could have been MUCH worse for her. In 2008, an 8 year old shot himself in the head with the same/similar gun that this girl was shooting. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...n-Uzi-gun.html
I think that I would rather die than live with the guilt of knowing that I killed someone else.
I'm saying that there was no education going on here. This was simply for the sake of saying "I SHOT A MACHINE GUN!"
I'll also say that the parents are idiots for bringing their kid there, the instructor & owners are stupid for allowing untrained children to shoot like this. Parents take all kinds of stupid risks with their children... you can't stop it all through law.
How would you even propose regulating against that situation? The closest thing I could see to a sane approach is requiring a basic competency test for people under 18 before they can handle guns... but that is hard to enforce in a way that makes sense.
Children absolutely can fire weapons in a responsible way. Here is an example of a 6 year old
edit: and here is a 10 year old girl kicking massive ass with a machine gun. Shooting sport happens in many countries across the world, so screw the uninformed "civilized first world country" comment, @Deepvoid. Many forms of knee-jerk regulation has taken away the ability for some of these competitions to occur.

I'm out of this thread ... just can't deal with this non-sense.
Sorry.
Re: conceal & carry laws in our city, my stepkid said yesterday that she 'doesn't want to live anywhere someone else can judge whether or not she'll be shot at.'
http://journalstar.com/news/local/91...8cbf4439b.html
Cops in Omaha open fire on a robbery in progress.
"COPS" production person and the suspect are both killed by the police.
What city? How old is the kid? Did you ask her what she thought about the fact that someone can "judge whether or not she'll be shot at" regardless of concealed carry laws?
My kid is not yet old enough to start getting into that kind of topic, but we are already doing the critical thinking stuff with him.
So this isn't about guns, it's about what cultures you think are ok to let exist. That's pretty fucked up.
I don't partake in those cultures but I'm not about to say it's "not normal human behavior"
and to think people give @tony.parente shit in the ferguson thread. Your commentary on culture is even worse.
and Australia
and Europe
and Central America
and South America
and the USA
and... and....
But go ahead and disparage them or outright pretend they don't exist because you don't like guns and are unable to think more than 1 step through your own actions and proposals (as is evident in the ridiculous fallacy you just posted).
I wonder if the parents will end up getting charged with anything.
Kids shouldn't be allowed to shoot any sort of automatic weapon full stop. Especially if it's at some side show like @DigitalChaos referenced. What happened to just going to a carnival and shooting those water guns that are welded to the counter and pointed down range? It's a child who's brain is NOT fully developed. No smoking, drinking until 21 but we'll let them shoot a weapon like that? WTF.
Don't start blaming the instructor for screwing up and getting himself killed. Classic blaming the victim does not work here - no way.
I seriously can't tell if you are being sarcastic. Are you?
That guy fucked up in so many ways. He was supposed to be THE individual responsible for everything that happens with the guns he lets customers use.
Here are just some of the things he fucked up:
- Gave her a fully loaded magazine. You should start off people with a single round even on semi-auto guns because there is a chance of run-away (basically a full-auto-like dump of the magazine) or similar bad things. With full-auto you WILL get this kind of rapid fire.
- He didn't get her to properly hold the weapon before telling her to fire.
- He didn't position himself in a way to properly reinforce her arms for the extremely likely chance it gets pointed in the wrong direction from the kick.
- He was literally holding up the gun, from the very bottom, using his left hand in a very relaxed grip.
edit: forgot the obvious one:
- gave a clearly inexperience child a fucking full auto weapon.

I'm not blaming the instructor for their own death, but if you're allowing a 9 year old girl to use an automatic rifle like that it's your job and your life on the line to make sure that shit is controlled 1000% There is no room for excuses for ANYONE, a 9 year old still has problems pissing the bed, you shouldn't allow the CHANCE of an accident like this. I support teaching kids like her how to respect and use a gun but you have to do that shit right.
What about those two morons called mom and dad.
If it was so obvious that the instructor should not have given the girl a Uzi, why didn't the parents say something? Oh yeah, too busy filming this awesome family gateway. That's gonna be a fun tape to watch every Christmas.
They clearly should have started with the .44 magnum S&W. What were they thinking. The M203 grenade launcher was the other obvious choice.
The good news in all of this is that she got to exercise her 2nd amendment rights.
I support what you said all the way up to the mocking of the second amendment. Let's not drag that into this, I don't think it really has any relevance in this specific situation.
Was there supposed to be a coherent point here? I already said the parents were dumb for bringing a kid here and deciding to let her use that weapon. I never said these additional failures of the instructor would be obvious to someone not familiar with gun education. I also don't have any additional info about the parents to make additional comments on them.
Some basic firearms education in the school system would go a long way toward preventing stupid accidents like this though.
Oh, yeah. Gun classes at school is ALL we need. Hahaha.
