Primary... oh....
If they play "Funeral Party" in this tour, I would lose it completely. That's one of 2 songs I would love to play at my own funeral. That and David Bowie's "My Death" live from the Ziggy Stardust movie.
So what, only 30-odd songs? Pfft. I only see 40-odd song sets (London 2014). [/Gloat]
Seriously though, I'm jealous about the new songs, and Burn will always be one of my favourites. If I was in the States right now I would SO catch one of these dates. I'm not sure I can afford to see them again here - not that they don't give value for money, but ticket prices are huge, and Wembley sucks as a venue.
I figured they'd given up on recording anything new, so it will be quite a treat if we do get a new album. One last really good album. Fingers crossed.
I apparently saw them do Burn for the first time ever live at Voodoo Fest 2013. I was losing my mind.
Yeah, it's two days later and I'm okay now. Like I said, just paranoid. We've lost too many good artists already, is all. Like Ryan said, the song's about a friend of Roberts who passed, explains the tears. He even said "See you again sometime" last night. He's all right.
Robert's mother passed away not that long ago apparently, and he dedicated Treasure to her when they played it a couple years back.

Holy shit again. I was starting to worry he'd disowned Bloodflowers!
Holy crap I think it is amazing that the set keeps changing, but if I go to see them in Atlanta.... I kind of want song assurances for driving 5 hours lol
So, as someone who hasn't listened to anything from The Cure (at least not consciously), what's a good place to start? They are going to play here in Germany in October and I am intrigued to go, but I just don't know their music.

Also this list. What really got me into them was their Join the Dots B-sidea album and Trilogy. After that they were my and still are my favorite band alongside Massive Attack. Disintegration is a great place to start. It's their definitive album for sure. I would also browse YouTube for some live videos. They're amazing live. I recommend checking out Trilogy and Festival 2005 and their 2011 one. I really want to see In Orange on DVD or Blu-ray one day.
That's funny cause when I was 16 for my birthday I got my Nana to buy the B-Sides box set on a whim. I didn't really know anything about The Cure except they had that "Pictures Song." I will never forget getting halfway through Disc 1 and my Nana called me that night to ask how I liked it and I told her I couldn't believe how I loved every song on it so far. That collection changed my life. Then I actually listened to the studio albums lol
Yep, this exactly. And I'd actually go in that order, too. Disintegration will show you them at their absolute best at everything, Head will display a wonderful mix of morose and upbeat moments, and the next three will slowly bring you down an epic journey through gloominess, depression and straight-up despair (separate your doses as needed, this is powerful stuff). And then Wish brings it all around on its head again.
At least DM do odd remix versions and they did that amazing Martin version of But Not Tonight last tour.
The Cure really are the bar-setters for insane setlists though and living proof that you do not need to do all the hits every show to get people coming back (and arguably the opposite is true since it'll make audiences think "Man, I wish they'd played ____! Better see them again!")
Bands who change their setlists every night I think just adds a lot more to their live reputation. Why do you think the Grateful Dead had so many followers for as long as they lived. That makes going to a show more interesting to see what will they play as I think the Cure have now gone passed the idea of just playing the hits. Pearl Jam doesn't play the hits very often and look how well they're doing as a live act. It just makes it more fun not just for us the fans but also for the band.

Show and Paris is what popped my cherry for me when it came to the Cure as I heard those albums when I was in high school and then got the 2 greatest hits compilations in Staring at the Sea and Galore!. Then I got into the albums. @Your Name Here pretty much has it right on as far as where to start. Anything from Seventeen Seconds to Wish, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with.
Just going through my Cure misc/rarities folder... does anyone want anything from here? I haven't updated it in a long time:
