    The album is out there....

Will need to go on the hunt tonight!

Also, Nergal is the latest guest on the Jasta Show podcast. Listening to it now.

    @Conan The Barbarian @bobbie solo

Wow Ecclesia Diabolica Catholica is something special. Still trekking along too!

    Edit: Finished it!

Exceptional album, I'd say. It's experimental but familiar. My verdict: Behemoth + Ancient Roman religious imagery + Satanism + A Goth "vibe" (when you listen you'll get it hopefully) = I Loved You At Your Darkest

Album has great word play and biblical references throughout. The cleans and choirs fit as intended. One of my fave albums of the year.

    Highlights:

    God = Dog
    Ecclesia Diabolica Catholica
    If Crucifixion Was Not Enough
    Sabbath Mater

About to start my second run. I want to soak in this one before I make my final judgement.

I want to start off by saying that I think comparing this to The Satanist would be unfair to this record. The Satanist was a product of what the band and frontman went through and it showed. Nergal even mention not going forward with the band because he felt that they have really reached their limits and nothing can be better. I feel that was immature to say because I Loved You at Your Darkest is a pretty fucking good record.

Any worries that they might have gone far left field on this can relax. Yes, some songs are a bit experimental for a band like Behemoth, but they make it work. This very much still sounds like Behemoth. The riffs are there, the blast beats are still there. Even Nergal at some point reaches vocal point of Evangelion. Inferno shines on this record.

I think the reviews that say this is their "South of Heaven" are spot on.

    5 stars.

I am not familiar with titles yet, and still have yet to have a favorite track. I will share that when that comes to me.

holy shit, how did i not listen to this band before???
gave a try with the satanist, it's so visceral it's amazing to have such intensity in music. even heavy music.

    It's a great band.

The older you go the angrier and more aggressive it goes (in my opinion). The first three (i'd fight for it) albums are straight up black metal if you're into that.

i'm not overly into black metal, i like the later stuff form enslaved and I'll sometimes play something more heavy but i'm definitely a light weight with the genre. I don't mind it but i prefer when it's mixed with clean vocals as well and more experimental(?) sounds. The satanist and ILYAYD fit this picture more, it's not just loud fast heavy stuff. I'll try evangelion and apostasy next.

The Apostasy is my favorite album and the first one I ever listened to. Here is two of my top favorite songs:

Sculpting The Throne Ov Seth (Demigod, 2004)

    Prometherion (The Apostasy, 2007)

    Here's two covers:

    Wish (Yes the NIN song)

    Total Invasion (Killing Joke cover)

thanks for these, i have indeed heard the wish cover
going through evangelion now, that's a lot more in your face. i can see why satanist was such a departure.

Well, The Satanist was a product of Nergal going through the leukemia scare.

Before that album, Behemoth were straight up blackened death metal and Nergal almost died in the middle of the touring cycle for the record.

I recommend two books, behemoth’s book “ The Devil’s Conquistadors”. Its released by the band and chronical the band from the very beginning till the release of the satanist.

Nergal’s book “Confessions of a heretic.”

The latter is more like an interview than a proper book like the band books.

Picture is actually signed by the band. I was expecting it just to be printed on there. Which makes me more pissed that it came damaged.

They should consider putting Prometherion back in the mix.

I keep trying to get into him but I just can’t take him seriously, using “ov” in the lyrics and song titles. I respect him as a person and dig his personality but I find all that growling grrrr I’m the devil incarnate stuff hard to digest.

This is coming from someone who loves Peter Steele’s growling from the Carnivore days, and Isis.

Ov is just the old european way of spelling 'of ' I believe.
