For the record a Presidential pardon only applies to federal crimes not state crimes. So NY will hopefully still get him in their investigation.

There is a thought that the new Justice Department would still sltry to prosecute him even if he pardons himself because they don't want to set that precedent.
I just don't want him to be able to run again in 2024.

The way I understand it is he can issue himself a pardon but until it is tested in court it's nothing more than an endless cyclone of discussion among legal scholars as to whether it is valid or not. So even if he tries this it doesn't just end there. Am I wrong on this?

it’s weird to think that call was barely week ago. this week has been so strange. we flipped the senate! but the capital riot was just too ugly. i can’t get over that his base still supports trump after he led a few of them to their deaths.
the shock has worn off and it has become bewilderment. How is he still holding office? the house may impeach him but how long will that take? what damage will he do?

Doesn't he need a specific crime of which to be pardoned? He hasn't been charged with anything. Pardoning also implies, if not outright confirms, that he did commit a crime; that seems to be lost on him.
