    Fragile: Deviations 1 missing tracks?

So here's a weird one for you all.

Back in (I think) the middle of 2017 I ordered the Deviations 1 vinyl from the nin.com store. As you're all aware, that also comes with a digital download. I chose WAV files, downloaded them, and then promptly forgot about it, as I've been listening to the vinyl all this time.

So, I (finally) got around to checking out the zipped WAV files this week, thinking that I can listen to them on the go. I unzip the ZIP file and I noticed that I am missing three tracks! My ZIP file is missing:

    Where Is Everybody? (Instrumental)
Was It Worth It? (Instrumental) and
    Can I Stay Here? (Instrumental)

I don't think it's a coincidence that the three WAV files I'm missing are the only ones that ended with question marks. Would that affect the un-zip-ability?

Anyway, I've already emailed the store, but gotten NO response at all. I would prefer not to re-purchase the entire package for $80. So, I am turning to the community for help. Can anyone recommend a next course of action? Please help!

    Thank you.

This problem was well documented at the time. Many people were sent corrupt zips and damaged goods. The situation got so dire that it even led Trent himself to ask the community for help.
The original company who distributed Deviations 1 did a piss-poor job of it. I just cancelled my order and wiped my hands clean of them. Others stuck with it and went through hell to get even the most basic assistance.

You'll find no customer service from Sandbag. Your best bet is to hope some kind soul will upload theirs for you. Once you get the full copy, I suggest deleting the old one, as it's probably screwed up in some way (bad IDs, bad artwork, glitches, etc).

    Good luck!

I remember for the first day or so, the ZIP file they had up for download had errors. They sent another email with a corrected file, which was noticeably larger in size, which had all the correct files and the PDF. You probably just got the first one with errors.

Oh man... I had a samaritan contact me and help me out with the three missing files, but I haven't had a chance to go through the other 34 tracks yet to vet them for quality. I hope that, other than the three missing files, I have the right set.

It's the question marks in the filenames. Got corrected fairly quickly, but not before a lot of people ran into the same issue you did. Works on Macs, on Windows machines not so much. If no one's hooked you up yet, send me a PM.

Were there any documented problems with the vinyls themselves? Mine are still shrink-wrapped (I have plans to buy a turntable one of these days) so I haven't checked them.

I had the issues with the files, but I feel like I just re-downloaded the zip a few days later (it actually took me a while to notice that there were tracks missing) and the issue had been corrected by then.

You should take it out of the shrink wrap and put it in a plastic sleeve.

Well, it's also still in the cardboard packaging it was delivered in.

I think what they mean is that over time the shrink wrap can continue to shrink and eventually damage the records and/or cover.

If you live in the USA or Canada, I can't recommend the Orbit by U-Turn Audio enough as a bare-bones "starter" turntable. A seriously great sounding TT for the price plus the U-Turn guys (and gals) give AMAZING customer service.

Wait wait wait, there are tracks i never even knew were missing? I didn't even question this (i don't have a record player so never listened to the Vinyl, or even opened it! I just wanted the FLAC files...i realise $75 is a lot for FLAC files lol)

Well shit, if someone would be kind enough to also PM me the corrected files, i'd be super grateful

yes, there were issues with the vinyl as well. side 3 of mine was extremely scuffed...for lack of a better word. looked like a defect in the pressing. they eventually sent me a new set after several months.

I'll send ya, but why not just download it anywhere ? Not like you didn't buy the thing. It's quicker that way.

Appreciate it i'll download as soon as i get home!
I did try using my old link, but it doesn't work anymore (neither do my links for NTAE and AV) and i had to create a new NIN account when BW came out (apparently my old one was 'lost') so i can't use the site to re-download them either (i had to re-buy Add Violence on Amazon after my PC lost the original files, which was annoying!)

I contacted the current NIN Store about my downloads for past purchases that didn't work anymore, and they gave me a new link that worked. You might want to try that.

Hey gang - I know I'm suuuuuuuper late to the game, but I'm in the same boat as the OP... I downloaded the files as soon as I got them, filed them away on my PC and never looked back. Now years later I'm sorting through my files and organizing. I go to extract the zips and what a mess. I tried emailing the NIN store saying they can look back at my order history and see that I purchased the deviations vinyl set, and hoped for a new download link, but the email just got bounced back.

I'm not setup for t0rrents or anything like that, so I'm not sure if that leaves me SOL, but I figured I'd ask here... Can anyone help, please?

Edit: I found a support email for the NIN store and just emailed them. Hoping for a response soon...

I doubt you'll get any help from the NIN Store now. Your best bet might be to try a different tool to unzip the archive. Have you tried 7-zip or WinRAR? Are you able to unzip it, but are just missing the 3 files indicated that have question marks?

Hey, thanks for the response! Still no response from the nin store. I did find a Reddit post from 2021 where someone said they were in the same situation as me and the nin store responded with a download link. I assumed that was something they could still do since if you were to buy the vinyl set today the store still has a note saying that a digital download will be provided. But regardless, still no response from them...

As for the compressed files that I have, I am able to extract them and it does appear as if only three files are missing, the ones with question marks as you mentioned. But in going down the rabbit hole of reading posts about that original corrupt compressed file, it seems like the other files had issues (with embedded data?) I'm honestly not even sure what that would mean. Maybe just the tag info or perhaps the embedded art? If those files are in fact good, then I'm pretty much set with the exception of those three missing files. Any chance there is an easy way just to get them without having to redownload gigs of data from someone?

I was going to take screenshots of my files hoping that would help people like you to troubleshoot, but when I attempt to add an image to a post, my only option is to add a URL and not browse to a file on my PC. It's been awhile for me since I've done any of this, so my apologies for the lack of tech skills!!
