Even though Trent has pop-pooed the RRHOF, I’d like to see NIN (and anyone else deserving) get in.

Judas Priest, one of the best and most influential metal bands of all time, isn’t in. I’m pretty sure NWA had the lowest vote percentage the year prior to being inducted... and then made it after the mega-hit biopic in Straight Out Of Compton.

I know it’s generic, but fun at the same time. TR/AR got an Oscar for TSN score, but didn’t even get a mention for TGWTDT which “sounded” way better IMHO.

I don’t give a shit about the Rock Hall (and nor do The Cure that much either I don’t think) but I am looking forward to Trents speech as he’s always quite moving when giving props to his influences (like that lovely Depeche Mode Facebook page post or writing a resume for Gary Numan to get into the US). It’s funny because one of the guys in The Cure said it seemed to be a toss up between Trent and Billy Corgan

I totally called this one. Of course, Bowie would've been the perfect choice but sadly that can't happen. It's appropriate because at least for me Trent is carrying the torch now. Billy Corgan is such an obnoxious fuck & has said unkind things about Robert Smith more than once. Very glad Trent is going to do this. Even if he doesn't really care about the Hall, this will do nothing but good for NIN getting the well deserved recognition soon. Hopefully Trent will play with the Cure at the ceremony!

Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor has been tapped to introduce The Cure. Reznor has been a fan of The Cure since he was 18, as he told The Quietus in interview last year. “The Cure were one of those bands that really struck a chord and Head On The Door is the album that made them really important to me. I got into that and then worked my way backwards. That album got me through a lot of long dark times. I felt that this Robert Smith guy really understood who I was and I loved The Cure from that point on.” Last year, Smith personally booked Nine Inch Nails to play his Meltdown Festival.
Reznor, previously said he “couldn’t given less of a shit” about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (NIN has not received a nomination since 2016). However, it seems he’ll feign interest, at least for one night, due to his love of The Cure.

Editing can definitely be a reason why but I think music rights are an issue as well.

Edit: and before anyone goes hating on Ghostmane, I beg you to listen to this for like 6-10 minutes. I honestly can't think of anything I've heard that's more blatantly influenced by NIN. I'm PRETTY sure this album was a straight up homage to TDS.
AND, he's doing a lot more screaming/singing at his live shows, not to mention, having a live industrial band, and, playing Head Like a Hole.

Yeah, I wish there was a bit more transparency in terms of how the Hall decides who within a band gets inducted, and who gets asked to do the inducting. I know with The Cure, Robert Smith had to fight pretty hard to get them to amend their initial list and get Reeves inducted, even going as far as reportedly refusing to attend? Three former members are still off the list, and even though they admittedly might have had the least amount of contributions/time accrued in the band I do think it's perhaps in bad taste to not at least let Andy in being that he just recently passed away. There was a fair amount of drama a few years back when Dave Abbruzzese wasn't put in with Pearl Jam, but Eddie would've never pushed to get him in anyway. Supposedly it's pretty unprecedented that they were even coerced to change their mind on Reeves.

It would be interesting to know if bands have any say in who inducts them - did Robert personally reach out to Trent or was it merely a decision by the Hall? Dire Straits apparently had to induct themselves last year, and most of the band didn't even attend. Radiohead (or at least Thom) are similarly not attending, but even they're getting a induction speaker. I'm probably wasting way more time and energy thinking about all of this - it's really nothing more than a vacuous accolade at the end of the day. But I think it's more symbolic than anything; to get a band like The Cure recognized in something as unabashedly mainstream as this is a little strangely rewarding? I think this is kind of marking a turning point for the Hall, and even though again it's probably completely meaningless it does feel good in the moment to just kind of be happy for what it is.

The Dire Straits thing was just strange. Mark Knopfler was basically of the same mind of Thom Yorke and didn't show up. It was just their bass player (who was on every DS album) and their two keyboard players. I have a feeling Yorke will be the only one to sit it out, but I won't expect the other guys in the band to perform either.

Glad as I am Genesis and Yes were inducted, they each had some vital members missing from induction. Anthony Philips was basically the band-leader of Genesis until he quit the band very early in their career. Trey Anastasio from Phish did manage to give him a tribute in his speech, talking about his contributions to the Trespass album, their first canonical effort. Yes had a couple as well, Peter Banks and Patrick Moraz (who was also in The Moody Blues for several albums in the 80's, but because it was an acrimonious break-up I doubt much of a fight was put up to get him in). Banks was on the first couple albums and didn't really contribute much, at least going by writing credits. But Moraz was a major factor on their Relayer album, one of their more underrated works.

I remember some people getting up in arms about Robert Trujillo being inducted with Metallica despite only being on one album. Mustaine protested a little he wasn't getting in, but of course he didn't record anything with them.

I think a case could be made for people being inducted into bands who are already in past the fact. Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks as after-the-fact inductees into the Allman Brothers Band would come to mind.

I think the Hall picks who does the inductions if the band doesn't give a shit. But the band has final say. Howard Stern was picked by Bon Jovi personally. Trent is CLEARLY a Robert Smith pick. If TR got inducted, it is obvious Gary Numan would be Trent's pick to do the induction, now that Bowie passed (doubt Bowie would have done it anyway even if he was still alive since he disappeared into hiding post 2004)....I would put Dave Gahan as a number 2 choice.....Uncle Al at 3....Peter Murphy at 4 but at this point would Pete even be able to read the teleprompter or would he be too fucked up.
