Bitches Brew has its massive legacy because of the ripples it created in the jazz pond. Jazz players are the ones who revere it. Your typical jazz fan likely respects it but rarely puts it on for exactly the reason you stated – fascinating to study and apply to your own craft, but nearly impenetrable for pure listening.

I enjoy Bitches Brew like I enjoy Merzbow. The mood has to be specifically tailored to that sound.
