    played yesterday and today:

adrian younge & ali shaheed muhammad - luke cage 2xLP on yellow vinyl
    b-day gift from mom
might be one of the best scores i've ever heard, it's just so good

    fleetwood mac - rumours
b-day gift from my best friend
this album brings back so many memories of hearing it as a kid because my parents and their friends would play it all the time

bohren & der club of gore - sunset mission 2xLP
    b-day gift from my wife
listened to this together while i started reading the secret history of twin peaks (seemed like a good pairing) and we literally haven't stopped listening to b&dcog since

I recently acquired CHVRCHES's The Bones Of What You Believe.

Not mine but I got the same version:

Jack White's Third Man Records To Open New Pressing Plant

The state-of-the-art Third Man Pressing features eight brand new presses, the first newly built machines in 35 years (!). There are also four extruders and four hydraulic generators, all new. What’s more, water from the record curing process is recycled through the facility’s air conditioning system, making for the first fully climate-controlled pressing plant work environment anywhere in the world.
    fuck yeah, jack!

Anyone else have issues with the Blackened label Metallica reissues? At this point, I'd highly recommend not buying them.

    windhand - soma
2xLP on swamp green (hard to tell with the backlighting/filter), limited to 300 copies
i might like this album a tiny bit better than their newer one, but i'm not sure. they definitely both warrant more listens. this one has better art, though.

    coldplay - parachutes
    now playing
say what you will about this band, but this album (with the exception of “yellow”) is fantastic, and the music is so intertwined with my memories of that time and the beginning of my friendship with my best friend/sister justine (who gave me this as a birthday gift), which makes it extremely important.

Coming toward the end of January and having completed most of the collections I wanted to do in the immediate future I was thinking I'd try to wind down my collecting now and limit myself to maybe two albums and a seven inch a month.

I got paid on Monday and have now ordered a £30 7" (Glassjaw's Stars along with the GJ adapter, so I now have a spare copy of Stars without a GJ adapter if anyone wants it?), Prurient's Pleasure Ground, Mica Levi's Jackie OST, Tricky Valentine Andy Stott remix 12" and will be ordering Twin Peaks:FWWM later.

Fallen at the first hurdle 🙈

I'll look into it and PM you later. I got three of them before but no GJ adapter but the others are proving very difficult to track down.

Looks like I need to delay my Twin Peaks purchase a little while. My job is at risk very suddenly so record purchases are off for a short time.

Yep. In my opinion, anything Josh Eustis is involved in is absolute gold. Telefon Tel Aviv, Sons of Magdalene, Second Woman, this... even his contributions to Puscifer and NIN have been excellent (though less noticeable). He's understated genius IMO.

No problem. Second Woman is very Autechre-y, just to forewarn you, but his other projects are very very distinctive. TTA would be a good starting point and I'd probably recommend you start at Immolate Yourself and work backwards.

tears for fears - songs from the big chair
b-day gift from my best friend, played yesterday
having trouble figuring out which pressing this is. seems like 180g but the "back to black" version (that's the only recent pressing that looks like this) has a hype sticker on the shrink, which mine didn't. so i'm not sure what it is.

the black queen - fever daydream
45rpm 2xLP on white vinyl, #296/500 (really out of 233 but the jackets were mislabeled)
a year (and a day) on, and this album is still just as profound as the first time i heard it. it fills me with an energy that no other album ever has, and i am so glad that it exists. having all three variants of it is pretty nice, too, as i was one of the lucky 55 to grab it online after the shows. also so happy to have this band’s symbol tattooed on me, as i don’t think i will ever feel so connected to a project as i do to this one. thank you, greg, josh, and steve, for putting this out into the world.

pornography will always be my favorite cure album, and will always remind me of sitting in my best friend's basement and posing for a painting. she actually did two portraits of me (it was for her "senior project" at the end of high school). i posed for a total of about eight hours, so we listened to plenty of different things, but we started with pornography and so it's permanently linked.

    COIL - astral disaster
prescription edition, 2017 pressing, limited to 500 copies
this sounds fantastic and really makes me wish there were more proper reissues of their material coming out so i could expand my collection of their releases on vinyl

I've noticed that a lot of records come with cool 24x24" fold out posters but I never see anyone sell that size of frame. What would you guys recommend? I feel like a 24x36 frame would look weird with the extra space on top and bottom. Just curious what everyone else does with this size of poster.

@ The Doctor there are a number of sites online that will custom make you any size frame you want and some of them are quite reasonable.

just cut it into four pieces and put each one in a record frame! (kidding)

visiting my best friend in connecticut and we went into a cute, new, local record store. ended up (finally) picking up Mezzanine by Massive Attack. i asked if they had any mailers so i could bring it back with me on the plane safely and the store owner took down my address and is mailing it to me FOR FREE so i don't have to bring it on the plane. and that's why it's good to support local business sometimes instead of buying everything online. totally made my day to have someone be so kind and generous.

holy shit, i've been wondering what emiliana has been up to for the last few years. i've loved her since her first album came out, and i've liked kid koala since his beginnings (but haven't kept up with him for years). i saw him open for radiohead in grant park in 2001 and i think i was more excited than anyone else there haha.

I only have Welcome Oblivion on vinyl currently - that's because I wanted the CD with the bonus tracks on it. However I gave it a listen recently and it definitely feels like a different listening experience versus digital. I can't wait for all my NIN vinyls from the DE releases + Deviations 1 to show up. I might not listen to vinyl often in general but I adore the packaging.
