    Vinyl Collectors Unite!

I've had so much vinyl come in lately. I haven't even made it through everything. Need to catalogue it. I'll post pics and lists soon.

currently listening to my newest acquisition:

i swear, i'm hearing things on this record that i have never heard on the CD/digital version. overall, it sounds a tiny bit muffled, which is weird...but i'm still hearing new things. and it's fantastic. i wish everything was pressed on 180g.

Haha! I bought it second hand, it's no mint/NM copy. Had to listen to it at least once

That's an impressive looking setup! What sort of turntable, amp, etc are you using?

I went with the cheapest quality stuff I could find. Pro-Ject RPM 1.3 Genie with a 2M Red cartridge and Yaqin MS-22B phono pre-amp that I chucked some Mullard re-issue tubes into. Found a cheap Pro-Ject "connect it" cable for TT>pre-amp (fuck paying full price), then a quality component cable (with one lead stripped off) for pre amp>amp. For now this is just going to my oldish Yamaha receiver and outputting to my Wharfedale 9.1's and sub.

$750 inc shipping to Australia for the TT, pre-amp, tubes and cables. The speakers were $450 a couple years ago.

Sounds good... but it can always be better, lol.

    My fledgling, "official"* collection.

(*A work colleague donated their 100+ strong collection to me and the wife and I are still in the process of sorting out which ones are keepers.)

It's only available from sellers but this 2012 version actually sounds pretty good: http://www.amazon.com/Rise-Fall-Zigg...f=sr_1_fkmr0_1

It's a little pricey, but no more than some of the pricier represses lately (like Music on Vinyl's Earthling) PLUS it contains a DVD that has high resolution stereo version of Ziggy that's worth hearing. If you can't get an original or MoFi, I recommend this one.

I saw that one, and being the most recent release of the record i can see why it's the cheapest option right now. But then i read through amazon user reviews and they were saying a lot of various/bad things about the 40th anniversary release. Not sure what to do now.

I don't claim to be an expert or anything, but I have about 5 or 6 different versions of this album if you include various RCA/Ryko CD rips on my hard drive, and with the vinyl, the original UK pressing and the MoFi are the only ones that really jump out in quality. Everything else just...is. As for Amazon reviews, I really don't trust them on vinyl and for a lot of music stuff, because quite honestly, most people posting there have no idea really. But, having Ziggy on vinyl in one form or another is better than not having it at all, that's for sure. Let us know what you do end up getting and what your opinion on the sound is, I'd be curious to compare.

I've finally gone Legit. No more downloading. Unless its not on Spotify. I have been spotifying everything i hear about, and if I like it, I've been ordering the vinyl. If its not on Vinyl, I just keep spotifying it.

And yes I'm now paying spotify their 10 bucks a month. There's just not a reason anymore to download music illegally. Unless its some rarity that can't be found for a reasonable price.

Jinsai inspired me to check out the Halloween three score and I thought it was amazing. What is weird is that when I went to amoeba it was 0n the wall : ) the copy was mint and it was a promo. It was a bit pricey but I bite the bullet

Is there anything else John Carpenter worth checking out?
