Just finished the first listen through of the the new Tricky album...it's pretty good for sure. My only one issue with his last few releases is that he basically isn't doing any vocals anymore whatsoever. I know he's a producer by trade, but personally I was always a fan of his voice. Keeps me going back to his earlier work, hell I even love the Vulnerable album and that's often considered one of his worst works lol.

To be fair, nothing says 'Going to get a few of those FYRKANTIG's' like blasting Christiansands down the highway.

Tricky is an underrated god... but you can't blame people for not getting it. To "get" Tricky, you have to have had some steamy sex, drugs, and some intense hangovers to even begin to understand the vibe. You also have to appreciate at least a hundred genres of music. It's pop music for people who feel nihilistic, romantic, and drained. Lately I've been revisiting Pre-Millenium Tension, and it's so strange to compare the listening experience to where I was when I first heard it... When I was 16.

Absolutely. I'm not sure if sex, or drugs, are more important to "getting" Tricky.
I'm with you on that. PMT is one of those rare albums that LEGITIMATELY works better if you smoke a joint before listening to it.

    And then I think of
"Roll up the blue bills we snort the cheap thrills...hotel, motel, hotel, motel."

That being said, I swear to god, it seems like Tricky LIKES to limit the number of people who listen to his music.
I mean, he bristled at being called Trip Hop. He said the proper genre name was Acid Mutant.
When Maxinquaye blew up, he SURE didn't make Maxinquaye 2. And then, people liked PMT, so he made some OTHER weird shit.
Dude actually told me that he aimed to keep a "low pro."

He'll sure smoke a joint with you if you catch him at a club show; he's super cool about that.
