This should be pretty comprehensive:

No problem, here you go!
^ Thanks a lot bud! Now I have one more reason to check out This Mortal Coil.
Anybody got an Mp3 of the 1994-95 version of 'Metal?'
It was available on Napster way back.
Reznor's interviewed by Details magazine and the reporter refers to it.
There was no '94-'95 version of Metal. Some snippets of the track were leaked (presumably by someone from the NIN camp) in the Summer of '99 in the lead up to the release of The Fragile. Someone used these snippets to build a "complete" version that was dubbed the "Lee Completion Mix".
There WAS a 96(?) version because Trent was going to put it in a Numan tribute album, so there might be an actual early take out there, or TFA's version might be what he recorded a couple of years earlier
Does Trent ever discus why he remixed certain songs like Butthole Surfers, Peter Gabriel, Killing Joke, Queen, Megadeth etc...
Other than the fact that he may of liked the bands at that time?
Queen one is obvious although I don't know why it wasn't officially released (maybe I'm wrong about this).
Either he really likes/d the artist or they offered him some pretty pennies.
And Queen he did two for, one of which (Stone Cold Crazy) was given a very limited release as a b side to a CD reissue of the song. Tie Your Mother Down remains unreleased but it available from all of your favourite torrent sites.
It was actually as early as 94, I believe, that the existence of the Metal cover was known. You can search alt.music.nin to find the first mention of it. I can't remember offhand right now, but last time I looked it up, I believe it was 94.
Of course, the first time anyone actually heard it was the leak of the snippets that ItsJustDave mentioned.
Would it be kosher to ask here if anyone has a link to a Beside You In Time audio rip? I promise I already own it (twice), my PC optical drive is just broken so I can't rip it and extract the audio myself.
Is this the mp3 that I had? A "Duane Fogg" version?
It ended with a wonky synth solo fading out.
Does anyone know why or ever hear him perform"the perfect drug' live???
U could be right.

Best answer so far has come from a fan who asked Josh Freese:
"The one question I asked him was about playing The Perfect Drug live, and how the rehearsal process went for that song and why it never worked out. The first thing he said, without hesitation was that the song itself isn't that difficult to play live on the drums. He said something about the programmed beats part was the only thing that was sort of complicated (it was a little hard to hear him at times, crappy connection), but that it worked live with him playing it. The drumming sounded good and everyone was happy with that. He said the problem with the song was the ending. The whole song was really rocking and pushing through, then you get to the ending and it just never seemed to work. He said they tried four or so different endings to the song. They tried it kinda mellow sounding, and that didn't work. They tried a really aggressive ending, and that didn't work either. They did a simple ending, same result. They just couldn't find an ending to the sound that seemed to do it justice. The thing was that the song sounded really good, but to get to the ending and just not sound good, it was kind of a let down. He said [Trent Reznor] just seemed uninterested with it after a while and they just gave up on it."

I know Trent likes a challenge he should try again![]()
What kind of keyboard stand is Robin using? or is it provided by Trent I guess? Is it custom?
I've never seen this before....

To anybody that remembered buying Pretty Hate Machine and/or Broken before April 1, 1993: Did they always come in longboxes, or did some of them actually come without longboxes?

^^Wow. That brings back some memories. I know the stores I went to in Florida had them in longboxes. That said, I recall some of the smaller shops or record departments inside a larger store (e.g., Montgomery Ward) would take CDs out of the longboxes and place them in their own security plastic holder.
I believe stores had the opportunity to order CDs with or without longboxes as they were phasing out. I know it varied from store to store. I remember seeing Broken available both ways when it was first released.
Edit: I also vaguely recall a sticker that would be found on longboxes indicating that the CD inside was sealed for sale outside of the longbox.
