This for me after listening to them back to back as well. Each has some elements the other lacks and after making a slow Deftones fan record, I wanna mash up the tracklists for Gore and Ohms and see what I come up with because at the moment, Gore still holds the lead over Ohms collectively for me right now.

I'd have to say Self-titled is where they were the most cohesive next to KNY, with Diamond Eyes sounding like a b-sides album to me. This thread never seizes to amaze me.

Self-titled sounds all over the place, with no unifying theme or even direction, but it still has way more interesting things happening on it than Ohms does..

Diamond Eyes at least sounds like the band firing on all cylinders, has that spacey atmospheric sound throughout the whole thing, and has something for every kind of Deftones fan on it. The sonic territory they cover on that record is astonishing for only 41 minutes of music. That’s why that album still sounds so fucking boss a decade later..

Ohms has plenty to like and has plenty of certifiable bangers on it, but it’s the first album they’ve done where they don’t sound like they’re pushing themselves in any new ways..

Man, who the hell cares if they arent trying to try new sounds. A great album is a great album. Honestly, my personal opinion, this is much more experimental then Gore was. There is a lot of weird stuff on this album

After enough listens now to get a handle on Ohms, I fucking dig it, a lot.

Its not iconic Deftones, but it’s the album I needed right now. It might be their most cohesive effort, is the right amount of compressed relentlessness, and has a ferocity that feels familiar, but is also timely and long enough departed from their other recent work that it maintains a unique freshness in relation to the rest of the catalogue. Not a skippable track to be found. And it seems like there is a connected progression from KNY, which to me was their biggest achievement since Self Titled.

I love this band, and I love that they are still capable of making a record like this. I sincerely hope it isn’t (and no reason to suspect it would be), but if this is the last great Deftones album I think it’s something to be proud of. Well done boys.

wow, the remixes they previewed in that video sound really fucking cool (which doesn't surprise me, given the names on there). i love that it says "pre-order now" but doesn't give you a link and there's nothing on their site hahaha

(edit: oh, it says on the youtube page that pre-orders start at midnight EST)

anyone else get the "deftones quiz" e-mail? links to here:

Releasing a remix album (that nobody was clamoring for) for a 20 year old album takes balls, I give them that. I wish they put this much effort into completing Eros but............

I'm curious and will definitely check it out. That said, I can't imagine it will have much staying power for me. Do love me some Purity Ring though.

Yea... I wasted a little bit of time figuring out why my correct answers were being shown as wrong lol. I got 9/10 and it kept telling me 7/10. Still cool though!

Not something I'm rushing to hear, but definitely commend the guys for fulfilling a vision they had so long ago with a remix record for WP.

@Helpmeiaminhell maybe 20 years after the Eros sessions we'll see something

I went on the scavenger hunt to figure out all the correct answers, but missed a few the first time. I figured out my errors and got 10/10. All it did was provide a link to that White Pony/Black Stallion trailer.

there are not! and the super deluxe box set is not all that deluxe, but it IS super overpriced! the regular box set is more reasonable at $60 for two 2xLPs

it's literally just the main album, and the remix album (with one remix of each song in the same order as the album)

I got the 2CD set. The vinyl set is a little too much for me right now & I don’t know if I’ll like most of the remixes yet. Plus it doesn’t ship until April...

Woah! Squarepusher, DJ Shadow and Robert Smith all on the same album? Awesome! The Purity Ring remix of Knife Party is pretty sweet I reckon, so cool to hear bits of the original track reinterpreted in a different way. Chino's vocals sound so good with all of those electronic elements. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the tracks!

Now this is how you do a remix...you take elements of the original song, but re-record them according to your own artistic style, the re-imagined "guitars" and "re-recorded" vocals work great here. I don't like remixes that just rehash the original song, like that Vessel remix from Year Zero (what was the point there?). Didn't know who Purity Ring was but I started to dig into them after listening to this remix. Well done!

Pumped about hearing the remixes of the moodier songs, like Digital Bath (remixed by DJ Shadow, no less), Teenager, Change, and Pink Maggit.

These guys are marketing geniuses! They sell me shirts, beer (Imma pick up White Pony the beer today or tomorrow) and the same record three times (I bought the CD 20 years ago, and will probably buy the CD now as cash is tight at the moment, and if my finances are doing well then come April next year I may pick up the vinyl).

So did Chino re-record the vocal tracks or are we using 20 year old vocal tracks? Because if he re-recorded them.....I will jump all in

I was referring to Megan's recorded vocals (Purity Ring's singer). But Chino's vocal track does sound cleaner, compared to the original one.

Damn, i was hoping for some of those, the remix album sounds good, but this was an opportunity to bring the Demos and B-Sides, too

The B sides from that era have already been released on the B Sides and Rarities album. I doubt there are any other songs from that era sitting around

Believe it. Chino previously stated in interviews that they aren't a band that records 30 songs and then picks the best 12 for a record. They usually have the songs they want to do and maybe end up writing one or two in the studio.
