Listening to Palms for the first time in years.... Wtf happened to Palms?! This is good material.

It's a hell of a lot more interesting than crosses that's for sure

I like both (and Team Sleep too), they are two different animals. Palms is great. I remember seeing a photo on Instagram of them in the studio, but don't know what happened (edit: just checked IG, the latest post, a video from the studio, is from 4 years ago. I guess Palms will have to wait, Chino is about to go out on tour with Deftones). The latest studio photos I've seen are for Crosses.

    I'd rank them as:
    1. Palms
    2. Crosses
    3. Team Sleep

    But they are all great.

Palms was the dudes in Isis who created an instrumental record and didn't know what to do with it. Chino had zero involvement with the music. One of the dudes in Palms knew Chino and asked if he would record vocals over the finished album which he agreed to do. Apparently Chino was disappointed it wasn't as heavy as Isis. It was basically a one off

    Still with the "Ohms" hate?

I like all Chino's side projects, but i don't consider them "essential"; maybe the first "Team Sleep" album is my favorite of them all, "Palms" is great but can't listen to it any day and "Crosses" helps me to work and sleep, lol

It's not that I hate Ohms. It's just very boring and meh to me. It sounds way too produced and calculated, as if they were overcompensating for all the backlash they got for Gore..

The entire album just sounds like re-writes of previous Deftones songs (TLID, Genesis, the title track) or songs that would have made great filler on Gore and Diamond Eyes (Error, Headless, Pompeji, Ceremony)..

I still like it; it's a nice little album of dank-ass riffs. But all it makes me want to do is throw on something Chino or the band has done with more substance and originality (SNW, KNY, Gore, Crosses, Palms, S/T, etc.)

It's fine if everyone else likes it. Good for them. It's just too by-the-numbers for my kind of fandom..

Still? Man last I checked people were gushing about ohms.

But yeah I just basically am not into it. And would rather listen to almost any other Deftones album. I've tried to revisit it, and most of the tracks have only gotten more boring for me. I often really forget the album exists, although the art has aged well and I think the production and sound remain great

    “Art has aged well”

It hasn’t even been a year since its release haha.

Team Sleep is by far my favorite side project. Moody, creepy, unsettling at times, yet makes you want to just melt into the atmosphere the music brings. I enjoy the demos and unreleased stuff much more than the studio effort.

Just sat down with Woodstock Sessions Vol. 4 for the first time in awhile and damn is it beautiful with headphones...

Team Sleep is the perfect bridge from ST era Deftones into SNW era Deftones. It shocks me that there are some Deftones fans I know who haven't heard it or think its a subpar effort. I would think if you dig SNW era, you would dig Team Sleep. Specifically the Chino songs. I could care less about the songs Chino didn't sing on

The hilarious thing about that Team Sleep album is that the best song on there (Princeton Review) isn't even sung by Chino, lmao. The Woodstock version where Chino sings it is perfectly fine too though..

Team Sleep is just like Ohms: it's overrated and gets way more praise than it deserves. The unmastered version that leaked out and caused Chino to throw a fit and shelve the whole thing for five years is WAY better than the official version Maverick released, and Princeton Review isn't even on that one. Funny how Chino is working on new Crosses stuff but won't have anything to do with the Isis guys or Team Sleep after only one album..

Agreed, probably that's why i like the first Team Sleep album so much, i love SNW; to me it's a "Post-Rock-Deftones" album.

Whaaa, why is that? Most of those tracks are my fave actually lol.

Todd Wilkinson said on a now deleted Instagram post that Team Sleep was a bit more alive over the past 4 years than fans believed... I wouldn't hold my breath though.

I can listen to 11/11 nonstop, it does have Chino singing on it but he’s not the main voice. I used to have the leaked tracks but those were lost in a computer I had long ago. Would like to listen to them again…

Here's the original scene leak, from May 2002, with only 9 of the tracks named:

    https://mega.nz/folder/exYmzDzC#YCubvV6VpT_u33qttQxvNw

Here's a link to the thread on Sharing Lungs which clarifies that Off The Record is fan compiled from the original leaks:

    https://www.sharinglungs.com/index.php?topic=15178.0

There are also CDRs floating around out there, supposedly the real deal, but they are MP3-sourced and contain the Off The Record track order. The versions of the leak with full track names and artwork appear to have been "created" somewhere between 2005–2009. There are also various "remasters"...

Just thought I'd clear some of this up since I remember this being an especially frustrating time trying to track down "Deftones" and "The Mars Volta" leaks, and then weeding through the 100 iterations.

Ohms is going to be 2 years old by the time they tour to promote it. By that point everyone will be starved for new music

Except for all the people that are just starving for the live music. Which is basically everyone.
