In Jack's defense, the backlash he received for voicing a semi-nerfed version of a villain in a "woke" children's movie adaptation of a children's video game franchise was probably terrifying enough.
I mean it's a dumb thing to throw away a tour and band and friendship on so there's got to be another factor here. I wonder if Nintendo has a morality clause in their contracts?
While it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo has a code of conduct included in their contract (which is the standard for public-facing positions virtually anywhere), I doubt that would be his main motivator to "cancel" his own band.
The conspiracy theory nuts have been implicating Jack Black's family to be part of the illuminati/deepstate/jewish/chinese/reptilian/muslim/queer conspiracies that supposedly govern the world (and somehow still need to operate in complete secrecy), because his mother used to work for NASA and he sang a song as Bowser. I wouldn't be surprised if he's genuinely fearing for his safety after KG's joke.

Of all things, i can't believe Trump is going to be the end for Tenacious D, this are fucked up times
Some slimy piece-of-shit Australian politician whom I will not name was calling for them to be deported, which is no doubt part of the reason they curtailed the tour down under. Fuck you if you can't take a joke though.
I don't even like Tenacious D that much and this is insane to me. I thought I was genuinely reading an Onion article when this broke.
I wonder if JB is worried that Dwayne is gonna kick him out of the next Jumanji movie for this. Also... I feel like Kyle Quit The Band is actually going to play out now.
Tenacious D is still a thing in 2024?
Maybe not after this!
Oh my god, it was a dark, maybe sorta fucked up joke, but give me a break. Even weirder to refer to it as “hate speech”
btw, that link on the first page of this thread apparently now links to a shady spam porn site
KG's publicist dropped him too.
He's worried about all of his various things. Can't have Kung Fu Panda seeming to condone presidential assassination! (God, there's a sentence I never thought I'd write.)
It's his choice what to do at the end of the day, but man, imploding everything over something dumb like that is ridiculous.

I mean, I actually thought about it for a minute, and it is a really dumb thing to say. “Next time” does seem to imply that he wants it to happen again, and he’s encouraging it. For a famous person, with a hardcore fan base, to say that to a sold out crowd (even in another country) is a pretty big screwup.
Then again, you should see some of the jokes about a third of my friends were posting on social media… that stuff made what KG said seem like absolutely nothing (which it ultimately is). Hopefully everyone just gets over it. People slip up and say stupid shit off the cuff without thinking.
Their webstore has been nuked. Are they really doing all this for one shitty joke?
This is such a fucking bummer. This could have been handled with a well-written apology statement, maybe call off a handful of shows. I hope it blows over and they get back to doing their thing before too much time passes.
Dude shot at Trump and we lost Tenacious D. What a world.
ah, that makes a lot more sense.
Jack Black Says Tenacious D Will ‘Be Back’ Following Tour Cancellation
“We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime,” Black told Variety‘s Marc Malkin at the “Borderlands” premiere on Tuesday night. “And we’ll be back.” Asked if he’s talked to Gass since the tour’s cancellation, Black replied, “Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed. These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right.”
Black also showed off the titular magical guitar pick from the 2006 comedy film Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.
“Look what I wore today: I wore the Pick of Destiny,” Black said on the carpet. “I love Tenacious D. It’s probably my favorite job, if you can call it that. It’s a work of art, it’s my baby.”
Take a break? They release an album every 6 years. I could understand taking a break if they release an album a year like Weezer or something.

Their comeback better include another movie.
