How long is their set? I'm going to see them next week in Oakland (please no setlist spoilers, I've been avoiding them). And also, how was Opeth and Zeal and Ardor?

Just check out the setlist. It helps me keep track of how much time is left. They played for a little over a hour. Half new, half old.

Opeth was cool. I'm trying to get into them now. The visuals were amazing and the band sounded great, but it didn't match the energy of Mastodon. Zeal and Ardor is not my thing lol

Not a fan of Zeal and Ardor whatsoever but Opeth is an interesting band to attempt to listen to. I definitely prefer their older material when it was straight up death metal. After Ghost Reveries they definitely took a more traditional approach and combined progressive metal and an avant-garde styling to be more "digestible" to most. It's an evolution of sound, I get that, but I'm sure the pay is better these days with the sound change.

Check out a full concert from this tour, in Austin. These guys are killing it. In this particular concert Brent is having such a good time:

And about Brent's question at the very end of the show, would you rather hear Gigantium or Blood and Thunder as the closer? As much as I LOVE Blood and Thunder...I'd rather hear Gigantium, just because it's such an epic song and it's from the album they are promoting.

I love how down to earth Brann is, I always appreciate when he thanks the crowd at the end of a show, you can tell it's genuine. Going to check out Cynic - Focus based on his praise for their (deceased) drummer:

Mastodon and Gojira are playing in my ratty ass suburb (Concord)! No one ever plays here!! It'll be awesome, I'm procuring myself tickets for this. I doubt either of the two bands will have new music by then.

Gojira might, as they put out a new song back in the fall.
