Its gonna be a no for me.
Its gonna be a no for me.
From Trent on Discord:
Regarding the track w Antonio, we made friends at some film awards events we were both at years ago. I let him know his score for Birdman was undoubtably the year’s best and we stayed in touch.Over lockdown he reached out about a collaboration where I send him a single element that he builds a song around. I wrote some lyrics, Att and I had a synth arpeggio I used as an anchor and I sang whatever felt right against that static synth line, using some of the lyrics written. One take, purely instinctual.
We sent the vocal and the synth line off to Antonio and I think I suggested not to “fix” anything - keep it pure. Several months later he sent back what you hear now. We had no idea what to expect or what direction he’d take things and it was cool to hear where he went with it - inserting chord changes, etc. Plus, I’d forgotten what I did so it was a fun listen for us. Alan Moulder got involved with the mix.
Here’s the full lyrics:
I’m not really interested in your point of view
I can hear
Sound coming out of them
But I don’t seem to be able
To comprehend
I can feel
Their bullets fly through me
But I think i’ve decided
They don’t work on me
And I guess I
should thank you
By the way, for helping me
To open my head
and letting all that out
For showing me the way
To be free
Sweeping broad strokes
With my lathe of heaven
paint right over
every last trace
this is a new place
for just me and you
I’m tired
aren’t you?
Really tired
I can hear it
Hear it calling
Like a drumbeat
Calling
it plays when i’m sleeping
(Which I think is all the time now)
but i hear it all
you know i don’t really
not anymore
i think i’ve passed the point
of rationality
and that’s ok
if that’s the way it is now
i will adapt
i have mutated
listening is overrated
and unnecessary
But I think we’re past that now
We have all the time in the world
Waiting for something to happen
Waiting
Just you and me
And nothing else matters
Because ive decided
There is nothing else but
You and me
We have all the time in the world
We have all the time in our world
Time keeps on slippin
Into the future
It's gonna be a "yes" for me.
Though, that sudden fade is disappointing. I'd like the last ~40 seconds to be repeated for a few minutes.
Gave it a couple of listens this morning. I dig it.
well that makes a lot of sense. vocals sound unfinished while the music is ultra polished.
The first minute or so didn't feel very cohesive for me, kind of jarring with the vocals. I think i could tell that the vocals were done first before the music as was mentioned by TR but after the chorus hits the rest of the song was smooth sailing for me and i really enjoyed it!
This...this is something different...
The fact that we're missing...2/3? of the lyrics really makes me hope there's a full or extended version of this.
Definitely different.
I'd like to hear what they would do if they took his version and remixed it like they did with Todd Rundgren's Deaf Ears.
Not bad at all, mostly just kind of boring... I don't feel like the track really goes anywhere.
My first impression was one of confusion because I’m not used to hearing TR vocals so separated from the music. I did really like the chorus though. And that fade out took me by surprise as it sounds like the song is building to a final crescendo, but we never get to hear it all.
Upon repeat listenings I’ve finally adjusted to the discordance and am starting to really enjoy the whole piece (except that fade out, still feels like such a tease :-)
Loved it, i wish they would release a "NIN-Collabs" album, with all the singles he has done lately!
Is there anywhere we can purchase a digital copy yet?
Yes. It hasn't been released as a standalone single, but the single track is available to purchase (a la carte) as part of the album from all the usual locations.

Thanks.
I wonder if any of the words date back to Bleedthrough with the lathe of heaven reference.
I think it's crazy how much this thread dropped off. Are people just not feeling this one as much as some of the other newer collab tracks? I think this one is pretty damn good. Love the lathe of heaven lyric and it's oblique look back to the Bleedthrough/WithTeeth era.
I’m not a fan of the fade out at the end, otherwise I love this track. It’s stuck in my head. Maybe others don’t like that fade out? Not sure.
Has anyone seen a preorder for Vinyl or CD?
Only a European link but I'm sure they ship internationally. That link is for the CD. Vinyl is linked on that page.
Just a heads up that this album is out now. On my second listen now and really enjoying it.
