It's been debunked, but Jimi Hendrix in Emerson, Lake & Palmer. HELP.
Bolton in Sabbath isn't exactly surprising because I think his first album was a hair metal album.
I think that, pre-fame, Elton John was invited to audition as a singer for King Crimson by the band's managers, but when Robert Fripp heard his debut album Empty Sky he declined to hear him sing. They still paid him for the time though!
Justin Broadrick turning down an offer to join Faith No More.
Mike Patton being asked to join INXS.
Les Claypool auditioning for Metallica.
Remember that time Foo Fighters were auditioning new singer?
Not that crazy, but I still woud have loved to see what Wes Borland, Eric Avery or Rich Fownes would have added to the NIN line-up.
Eddie Van Halen’s interest in joining KISS, around 1982 I think (according to Gene Simmons).
I don't know how to phrase this properly without sounding like that girl in Ferris Bueller...my son's friend's dad looks just like the guy on the far right.
The one I think about often is Corey Taylor of Slipknot auditioning and recording an album with Velvet Revolver.Taylor recently admitted that he tried out for the vacant singer spot in the band Velvet Revolver, but said that it just did not work out.[56] However, according to a recent Billboard article, it seems likely that he may in fact become the vocalist for Velvet Revolver, though no official confirmation has been made.[57] Duff McKagan added that they can neither "confirm or deny" Taylor's membership in the band but believes that Taylor is the "real deal".[58] Slash has since ruled Taylor out as the possible new vocalist explaining that "[it] just wasn't right" although he does love him.[59] Taylor has, however, recorded 10 new songs with the band, although drummer Matt Sorum stated it is unlikely they will ever be released.[60]
no but it's barely 8 and it's supposed to snow and very cold and dark so the gray matter is very slow this morning.
David Bowie asked Liam Howlett of The Prodigy to produce his album, which would've been Earthling.
Madonna asked Liam Howlett of The Prodigy to produce her album, which would've been Ray Of Light.
U2 wanted The Prodigy to open for them back in the 90s.
He turned them all down.
The Prodigy and Massive Attack made a track together for The Beach soundtrack, but they pulled it at the last minute. The original version has never been released. UNKLE did share their remix on a mix CD without permission. Dan The Automator also remixed it, but was never released.
Both Liam Howlett and Robert Del Naja made music for a porno film. Liam's track "Titan" was recorded off the video from the sex scene it's played during and uploaded online, so there's some moaning in the background lol.

Moby and Gravity Kills collaborated on a track for the Spawn soundtrack, which was not used.
Wasn't Trent Reznor and Dr. Dre going to do a full project together?
MAJOR alcoholism. And depression. EVH wasn't "auditioning" to be in Limp Bizkit; he was working on some "project" with them, that immediately didn't work out.

"After it was suggested they work together, Durst, according to Bennett, responded that it “would be hilarious. The greatest guitar player ever plays with the worst band ever.”
This period in EVH's life was after Valerie Bertinelli had left him, due to Eddie's drinking, his cocaine use (she allegedly caught him with coke in his possession while with a young Wolfie), and his continued smoking - even after Eddie had 1/3 of his tongue removed from tongue cancer.
EVH holed himself up in the 5150 house with the drapes drawn, blankets thrown over the windows; lots of his teeth were missing according to Sammy Hagar's book, from drinking wine right out of the bottle
From Hagar’s book:
See this: https://www.today.com/popculture/hag...e-wbna41891351[EVH]walked around all day drinking cheap shiraz straight out of the bottle. That's why his teeth were all black. "Ed, why don't you get a glass for that?" I said. He held up the bottle. "It's in a glass," he said.
EVH finally went into rehab in 2007 and was sober until his death.

I guess this isn't really what this thread is about, but I feel like sharing a story, and the thread title reminded me of it. I was hanging out with a friend and we went to this band audition thing together... and the guy says he's really influenced by the works of Robert E Howard (the guy who wrote the Conan the Barbarian books), and he pulls out a guitar and starts singing a song with the lyrics "roll roll rollllllllll the dice of fate! Huh!"
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my story.
