Lots of guitar solos for a Tool album! Descending studio version blows the live version out of the water, BTW.

Got damn... Pneuma is "the shit" as the kids say when they want to announce the greatness of something.

From what i've heard, the kids say it is "on fleek", whatever the fuck that means.

    They're real, and they're spectacular.

I have had like 25 chill moments on this, and I'm only halfway through "Descending".

I got the thing! Definitely some Tool sounding stuff right here. In some ways its seemingly more Tooly than any other tool album is say.

Well, 7empest lives up to the hype for me. Absolute Classic Tool. I think Pneuma and 7empest are the standout tracks for me.

Initial thoughts: it sounds a lot like Lateralus era Tool. Nothing groundbreaking, but solid work regardless. It feels like it would have been a natural next step from that album.

Yes it really feels like an actual follow up to Lateralus I've always thought that much of 10k was kind of phoned in or hamfisted. This doesn't seem that way. I think I like Pneuma the best, it's a very tool song. 7empest is the album's most aggressive track by a big margin. A bit self indulgent that one.
Culling Voices the weakest track I think, I couldn't get into it

Descending already so much better than live version and only 3 mins in.

side note: am actually still surprised it not having a track named Ascending that was its correlating twin.

Agreed. And I'd also add that while there are moments where songs get self-indulgent and could maybe be trimmed a bit, there's not really any "fat" over the course of the 79:14 run-time. Despite being billed as the drum solo track, Chocolate Chip Trip was still pretty cool, too. I'm even excited to hear the bonus digital-exclusive segue tracks. And holy shit, seeing them play 7empest live is going to be amazing! I hope they announce a US fall tour soon...

Danny Carey is in full beast mode this album. These dudes are playing tighter than you ever thought they could. Fucking Pneuma, man... and Invincible...

Where were you on August 25th, 2019?

Dammit, I recently got home and took a shower and was about to head to bed... it's 2:20am. If I listen to this full thing now it'll be close to 4am by the time I go to bed... predicaments...
I'll listen to a track and see what happens...

EDIT: Yep, Pneuma sounds like it would fit right in on Lateralus. I hear a lot of "Schism" in this track. I think they should have used this song as the lead single. Way better than FI.

Has the digital version leaked with the instrumentals or just the physical version?

wow, 7empest is AMAZING! Sooooo good.
I got goosebumps a third the way in.

I listened to this and Pneuma in full based on the reviews of the tracks saying these 2 were the standouts. Definitely true.
I skimmed the others quickly, but i'm going to give it a proper listen on loud speakers tomorrow.
Used my pair of Sennheiser's for these 2 tracks tonight and was not disappointed.

Going to end my night there with the conclusion of 7empest.

Jesus Christ, it’s a testament to their musicianship how close the live versions sound to the album counterparts. “Descending”, especially the second half, feels like you’re watching gods being created.

Just finished the record and I agree, those two are amazing. Culling Voices is a bit meandering but the rest is tight.

Need to hear the instrumentals and Recusant Ad Infinitum now.

A lossless version seems to have leaked now, too. I shan't listen to it today though - going to wait til at least tomorrow when I'm at home with a big system.

WTF is going on in Descending at about 7:50? Sounds like Adam is playing 2 guitars at once...
