Trent just retweeted Jon Batistes thanks for winning the Critics Choice score awards. I’m loving Jon Batiste’s excitement over this, it’s clearly a new thing for him. So glad he was included in the eligibility for the Oscars

Is it common for (a) composer/s to be nominated twice in the same category in the same year?

edit: nevermind, didn't take me long to find the answer on Wikipedia

Our new Lessons from the Screenplay video includes a quote from Pete Docter about how a discussion with Trent influenced a scene in Soul. Skip to about 7:40 if you just want to see that part:

My kids have really been digging this one! It’s pretty cool having such vast musical choices and stylings to choose from that are related/an evolution of something I love so much... I have a playlist of this score, some various Ghosts stuff and some cuts off Still and my kids love it all. Score!

For those of you still into physical media, Best Buy has a preorder up for the Soul Bluray 4K UHD blah blah with digital >> https://www.bestbuy.com/site/soul-st...?skuId=6452022

The steelbook cases are nice but I'm not sure of extras. There are also standard Bluray and 4K w/ a regular case versions available.

Edit: Target will have a 3-disc special edition that includes a book of some kind: https://www.target.com/p/soul-target...d/-/A-82381440

Here are a list of extras: https://images.static-bluray.com/movies/covers/285493_back.jpg?t=1614080106

Trent and Atticus filming on the same backdrop - are they working on something new?

That seems like it's a dedicated Zoom spot so it could have been a convenient way to record a message. That being said, the chances of them working on something at the moment are pretty high.

    "Saul"

I was so confused when he said that. I didn't think they won at first because of how he pronounced it, but then Jon Batiste showed up on screen.

I started googling around and found this: https://thescl.com/news/winners-of-t...al-scl-awards/ and at the bottom...

Full video of the 2nd Annual SCL Awards will be available soon on our Special Events page.
So keep an eye out for that if you're interested.

As a surprise to no one...Soul received an Oscar nomination for Best score. Soul is also nominated for Best Sound, someone we've heard a lot about, Ren Klyce, is part of that group.

    https://variety.com/2021/film/news/2...es-1234928711/

Now excuse me while I copy and paste this into the Mank thread.

Weird to think they’ve been shut out of the Oscars ever since the first surprise win and now 2 come along at once!

Apart from Soul and Mank, I have no idea what all the other movies there are.
No cinemas = me not following the new releases

Were they shut out? Don't get me wrong, I think some of their other scores were good, but were they Oscar-worthy?

I personally think TGWTDT was oscar-worthy, but otherwise, you've got a valid point there.

Bird Box, Vietnam War, TGWTDT and Watchmen were as good as, if not better, than anything nominated at the time, yes..

Gone Girl was right there, too..

Vietnam War and Watchmen aren't really relevant as they weren't eligible for oscars, being TV shows.

..and they were still better than any movie score that was up at the time, regardless.

So far the clear version from Target is the only option aside from black https://www.target.com/p/soundtrack-...74#lnk=sametab

You can find it in-store in some areas but YMMV. You can grab it from Discogs for not outrageous prices.

Edit: @allegate beat me to it
