Miley Cyrus covers NIN for upcoming Black Mirror episode

Well, that was awesome and totally not predictable. I can see why Reznor participated in this. It’s right up his alley. Off to order my shirt.

Edit to add: if you only listen/watch the song clips, I don’t think it’s as impactful as watching the episode. It’s a big arty package y’all.

    Thanks @ManBurning

I think I might buy one of those shirts, I have a 5 year old daughter that might think it's cool in, I dunno, 5 or 6 years.

Kraw posted the shirt to his IG along with a bio link to the NIN shop...looks like he was involved.

So if something like this isn't coming...I'll be disappointed. I won't wear it but I'll be disappointed.

so in the show is she saying "Head like a hole" or "a-hey and a-ho!"

Episode is really fun/depressing. Best of the new season.

The episode itself definitely felt a lot less bleak than usual, but I think that's fine overall.

The re-works are great and I liked the actual cover at the end. I do hope that we get longer versions of Right Where it Belongs and its rework, maybe even the Hurt rework that was mentioned that wasn't in the episode.

Heh. Captioned lyrics are: "Hey, yeah Whoa-ho, I'm on a roll."

Yeah, it did, but maybe that's what felt so disconcerting and weird to me... The cute elements of it really reminded me of creepy 80s grindhouse schtick... this is gonna sound weird, but I kept thinking of the gargoyle monster in Bikini Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama... mashed up with the android (played by Alan Rickman!) in the shitty version of Hitchiker's Guide..

    aaaaand... I'll let myself out

Miley Cyrus covers NIN for upcoming Black Mirror episode (spoilers)

I don’t know if spoilers tags should be used in this thread or not so I’ve added “spoilers” to the thread title.

I've been a fan of Black Mirror for a while now, and I liked the episode a lot. I was browsing the Black Mirror subreddit curious to see what people thought about it, and lots of people seemed to recognize HLAH and were asking about Right Where it Belongs. It was a really good move for Trent to give permission for this, people seem to be responding to it well and it's been fun to chat with people who aren't as familiar with Trent's work and try to point them to other stuff they will like.

i’ve been a miley champion around here for a long time. it’s so fun to watch all this unfold. i’ve been given the freshest hlah remix (cover) ever, a new show to binge, and the best nin shirt design i have ever seen.

Lots of talk about the fact that Miley and Ashley are parallels to each other, but there are a lot of parallels to Trent as well. Love him as much as I do, the man was a caricature from about 1990 to 2005; a black-eyed mopey goth sadboy who clearly wanted to escape some of the shackles that his fame had put upon him. And guess who also had an abusive manager....

Yeah, when she started "writing" Right Where it Belongs I thought about those parallels too. I'm sure that fame can feel like a trap at times, and it would suck to feel like you couldn't complain about it because people will roll their eyes and claim, "doesn't everybody wish they were rich and famous like Ashley/Miley and Trent? What's there to complain about?"

As fantastical as the tech aspects of the story are, I think many other elements in the story are very practical and real. There are lots of musicians who have talked about controlling managers, abusive "friends"/family members leeching off their abilities and the constant drug pushing. I actually did feel a twinge of sympathy for the character as I watched the episode, and by extension, Trent as well. Because it's one thing to hear an artist/performer talk about that stuff, but it's another to see it played out in a story form. It immerses you in a way that fosters connection and empathy.

That was so cute and fun to watch. I mean, I laughed by the end.

And we're not far from having the technology to do that sort of thing anyways. It was catchy and fun, and made me laugh, but it's also disturbing too.

Spoiler: I mean, I heard that Whitney Houston's hologram was going on tour, and as much as I want to dance with somebody, I want it to be somebody, not a hologram, so I'll pass. But I'm not everyone, and a shit-ton of people showed up to an online "concert" on fortnite. And holograms have taken the stage at some pretty big festivals. There are people out there who would be happy to go see something like that.

And it's all about 2 teenage sisters reacting very differently to their mothers death and trying to cope in different ways too, having a hard time connecting anymore, and "Ashley, too" just comes in to be the new one to connect with and turns the one into her clone. I kind of wish the episode had taken this further and pushed it further into this direction than the way it did go. Maybe that would have been a little contrived though.

Loved it though. Classic Black Mirror, really well done.

Before this my favourite episode was the one with the star trek simulation. I don't think this quite beats it, but it's up there. Great stuff.

Need a full version of "On A Roll" to be released so TR can get his 2nd ever #1 single...which both came in 2019 via a country rapper and the Cyrus family.

I'm not going to say the Buckcherry version was awesome, because it wasn't, but at least i found the bass line amusing.

I was only refering to the lyric video posted in the thread, i have yet to hear the version with the "new" lyrics.

    *EDIT*

Seems no new lyrics, my opinion stands...

Loved the happy pop versions of HLAH and RWIB, very fun and enjoyed Miley's vocal take. Bias aside, this was easily the best episode off the new season but thought it was just alright overall. Hope they upload these versions on Spotify.

Haven't seen the episode yet, but I peeked in czech subtitles and found:

Hej, já jsem nej, prostě válím.
    Plním si sny, neotálím.

    Which is approx:

Hey, I'm the best, on a roll,
    fulfilling my dreams, not hesitate

    Looking forward to this.

Brooker, creator and writer of the Netflix series, said: “Actually every song that she (Miley Cyrus) performs in this, they’re all Nine Inch Nails songs
All the songs are just two ? This is confirmed in credits.
