Battle of the bands--Beatles vs. Stones, NIN vs. TOOL, Zeppelin vs. Queen, etc.

One thing I loved about the old NIN board on the official website were the games. ETS is great, but I do miss threads like "Ask the poster below you a question," etc.

For this game, pick between two (or more) bands of a similar genre, or who were popular around the same time, or have an overlapping fan base. Add your own bands to battle if you want.

The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones
    The Beatles vs. Elvis Presley
    Led Zeppelin vs. Queen
    Led Zeppelin vs. Black Sabbath
    Aerosmith vs. KISS
    Aerosmith vs. Van Halen
    Van Halen vs. KISS
    KISS vs. Aerosmith
    The Who vs. The Doors
The Jimi Hendrix Experience vs. The Doors
    Pearl Jam vs. Soundgarden
Pearl Jam vs Alice In Chains
    Pearl Jam vs. Nirvana
    Nirvana vs. Alice In Chains
    Nirvana vs. Soundgarden
    Soundgarden vs. Pearl Jam
    Soundgarden vs. Alice In Chains
Mad Season vs. Temple of the Dog
    Elvis Presley vs. Chuck Berry
Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. Faith No More
    Limp Bizkit vs. Creed
John Lennon solo vs. Paul McCartney solo/Wings
    N.W.A. vs. Public Enemy
    Metallica vs. Guns N' Roses
    Guns N' Roses vs. Nirvana
    Nine Inch Nails vs. Tool
    Audioslave vs. Velvet Revolver
    Bush vs. Live
Black Sabbath (Dio-era) vs. Ozzy solo

They were popular around the same time--'98-'00-ish and there was that big Durst/Stapp feud. Now no one cares about either.

Just fairly different genres and a bit different fan bases. Better ones would probably be LB vs Korn (or something to that effect- that would be a landslide victory for Korn though) and Creed vs Nickelback.

Thats awful lol. I do think the My Own Prison album is pretty decent though.

I've always thought about topics like these, and have always enjoyed comparing similar musicians, especially with overlapping fan-bases.

Anyway, if anything as of now, I just thought of using this thread as a reason to mention the following comparison I've always had in mind, as it always stood out for me, like a clash of two titans.

Nine Inch Nails vs. Radiohead / Trent Reznor vs. Thom Yorke

For obvious reasons, I could see why Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor would win on ETS, but I have seen Radiohead loved more and respected more outside of ETS. (Not by a lot, but by a hair at best.) With both bands being 1990s giants with some similarities here and there electronically on some levels, this particular comparison still blows my mind, especially when just stacking Pretty Hate Machine to With Teeth and Pablo Honey to Hail to the Thief side by side.

Or say, narrowing it right down to comparisons such as The Downward Spiral vs. OK Computer and The Fragile vs. Kid A/Amnesiac.

There's certainly no denying that both of them get massively extolled, but I've always read and heard of more people sooner criticizing/insulting and attacking/complaining about NIN more than Radiohead, even in real life. It also seems like more people know about Radiohead than NIN.

This comparison has also been sometimes mentioned, or at the very least, merely hinted at in other threads/sections of ETS as well.

Radiohead, like TOOL, is one of those bands that I never "got." I like OK Computer and recognize it as a classic album, and I do like most of the material that I've heard, I'm just not super into them. NIN>Radiohead, that's an easy one for me.

Limp Bizkit is an infinitely better band than Creed. I hate them both, but come on... I'd rather get teeth pulled than listen to Creed at a volume too high to ignore.

Radiohead vs NIN... eh, if we're going by albums, Pretty Hate Machine > Pablo Honey, Broken > The Bends, The Downward Spiral = more or less to OK Computer, Kid A/Amnesiac > The Fragile, everything from there on would go to Radiohead for me. These are a hard comparison though. It's like comparing apples to foie gras.

I'd definitely take Creed over LB. I don't know if it's because I'm getting older or what, but Durst's voice/persona is just really, really grating to me. Those first two Creed albums have held up rather well, imho.

Songs like "#41" and "Two Step" are better than Vampire Weekend's entire catalog.

I agree EXCEPT TDS > OK Computer.

How are these match ups dictated other than your personal preference for making them as such? A better alternative would make this a game thread where people post vs matchups and the poster after it answers and gives their own vs matchup for the following poster after them.

The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones (Beatles, easy one for me since I don’t really care for the Stones)
The Beatles vs. Elvis Presley (Beatles)
    Led Zeppelin vs. Queen (Queen)
Led Zeppelin vs. Black Sabbath (Sabbath)
Aerosmith vs. KISS (KISS- one of my favorite bands as a kid)
    Aerosmith vs. Van Halen (Aerosmith)
    Van Halen vs. KISS (KISS)
    KISS vs. Aerosmith (KISS)
The Who vs. The Doors (Doors)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience vs. The Doors (Hendrix)
    Pearl Jam vs. Soundgarden (SG)
Pearl Jam vs Alice In Chains (AIC)
    Pearl Jam vs. Nirvana (Nirvana)
Nirvana vs. Alice In Chains (Nirvana, although I like AIC better I can’t deny Nirvanas influence on pop culture)
    Nirvana vs. Soundgarden (Nirvana)
    Soundgarden vs. Pearl Jam (SG)
Soundgarden vs. Alice In Chains (AIC)
Mad Season vs. Temple of the Dog (no preference)
Elvis Presley vs. Chuck Berry (Chuck Berry)
Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. Faith No More (no preference, but probably lean towards FNM)
Limp Bizkit vs. Creed (LB, I think... maybe... don’t quote me on this o_O )
John Lennon solo vs. Paul McCartney solo/Wings (Lennon)
N.W.A. vs. Public Enemy (NWA, and not even close for me)
Metallica vs. Guns N' Roses (80’s Metallica)
Guns N' Roses vs. Nirvana (Nirvana)
Nine Inch Nails vs. Tool (NIN means more to me, but Tool is the best music I’ve pedsonally ever heard. Slight edge goes to Trent)
    Audioslave vs. Velvet Revolver (Audioslave)
    Bush vs. Live (Bush)
Black Sabbath (Dio-era) vs. Ozzy solo (Ozzy, another easy one IMHO)
