I'm hearing alot of people saying this is 'just a kids films' and that argument really grinds my gears. Just because it's aimed at kids doesn't give it a pass for being shit. Kids aren't stupid, films used to make an effort to be entertaining and memorable for children, now all we get are Minions and Alvin and the Chipmunks, completely forgettable movies made on the cheap to keep children quiet for a few hours...and that is exactly what this looks like!

But there is a flaw in that plan, this is out (in the UK at least) less than 2 weeks before Frozen 2...i know which films most parents will be taking their kids to see

Now let's add something positive to this thread, as a Sonic fan, and if you haven't found these already they're were a bunch of Sonic animated shorts done for Sonic Mania...and they're bloody fantasic!

All of them were complied into one 11 minute video and it's well worth a watch. There's no dialog but it's all so easy to understand what's happening, i dunno why they didn't just make a 90min film in this style, kids would have LOVED it!

Yes! Instead of doubling down and attacking the fans (Star Wars, Ghostbusters, ect) Paramount is actually listening! Nice!!

There are so many reasons why that doesn't begin to fix things

what the fuck is Coolio's 1995 hit Gangster's Paradise doing in Sonic the Hedgehog? i remember when it was in Dangerous Minds it made more sense ,how do the two come together?? why now in 2019? is Sonic a gangster?
    who approved this trailer?

Im getting a real Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie show vibe.
it would be fascinating to go behind the scenes at the board meeting on who approved this lol.

I have mixed feelings about the fix, mainly as it doesn't actually fix anything!

See this film is the directors first film, Paramount handed this to a new director who i'm fairly certain doesn't have the power to completely re-design the films MAIN CHARACTER 6 months before release, hired on the cheap (Jim Carrey isn't as bankable a star as he was, and the rest of the cast sure isn't) and are now shitting themselves people don't like it...but they've known that SINCE THEY RELEASED THE TEASER 6 MONTHS AGO! IN FACT THEY DOUBLED DOWN AND ATTACKED PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T LIKE THE FUCKING DESIGN BACK THEN! Oh but NOW they're listening? Fuck off are they, their PR dept have been doing the rounds since the trailers release and figured people weren't just bashing it, most people were saying they had no interest in seeing it in theatres, they'd just wait for a stream...and they are now in full on damage control because they'll lose so much money.

What makes it worse it they haven't announced a delay or budget increase, why? Because animators in Hollywood routinely get shafted, they'll be expected to completely re-do the films MAIN CHARACTER within 6 months of crunch overtime for no extra...all because Paramount green lit a fucking awful design and overestimated Sonic's brand power. This is the cheapest fix, but it doesn't even begin to address the other problems with the trailer (it looks like a TV special, the writing and script are laughable...and these were the best scenes they could pick for the trailer!)

This film is turning into a fucking car crash in action, Paramount would do well to just sell this to Netflix and be done with it.

I thought the trailer really wasn't that bad. What I would have liked is for the film to take place in a fantasy world instead of Earth itself. How cool would it have looked if they actually visited zones like Casino Night or Metropolis? Who knows, they could, but budget of course comes into play here. Design needed to be fixed and it won't save a shitty screenplay, but at least it will be worked on. I'm down with the change.

I get that, but otoh at this point it's all still on a hard drive somewhere so it should be 'easy' enough to just take the raw footage and swap models. Not like a weekend project but they do still have a couple months.

Otherwise I agree with you: it's going to be tough to do it and someone is going to get shafted in the end.

Hahahaha.... I found it originally at this article: https://heroichollywood.com/sonic-he...ious-redesign/

But I have since poked around the internet a little more, and it seems to be a fan redesign for the lolz. (at least we can hope)

Even if they fix him and make him look better, they should totally keep this as the original movie poster!

I would actually love if they did 2 versions of the movie, a real version (that looks good) and an edited version with this monstrosity, just so we can all have a LOL fest. Maybe a deleted scene or something for the blu ray.

I saw this movie tonight... and it was actually pretty good! I don't think anybody saw this as actually being good, and maybe it's because I had low expectations from the start, but... that was a really fun movie!
    Solid 7/10.

I think I'll check this out next Tuesday, anytime a studio actually listens to the fans they deserve our support.

But like @ManBurning said hopefully the Manhog makes an appearance on se of the home releases special features.

I just saw this, i'm posting my mini review but...i honestly haven't wanted to walk out of a film so badly! I HATED this, it wasn't funny, or fun, it was just so...dull. I felt so depressed leaving the cinema

We must have watched different films.
What were you expecting is what I want to know.

You basically get the tone of the movie within the first 10 minutes. I think if you find the turtle gag at the beginning of the film mildly entertaining, you'll enjoy the rest of the film.
*shrugs* I had fun. Great video game adaptation. VG movies are almost always a fail, but this one was done right. It worked surprisingly well.

Yeah that's about what I'd give it, maybe even like a 6.5/10 if i had to go a smidge lower but as video game movies go it was actually decent. Certainly above average!

Man i enjoyed it, I would be down for a sequel.

EDIT: One little nit pick, i would have preferred Sonic's world to have been just a different dimension on earth rather than some distant alien world but it is what it is.

I loved the surprise at the mid-credits scene!

With an estimated $57 million three-day performance, Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog topped last May's Pokemon Detective Pikachu to become the largest three-day opening ever for a video game adaptation. The film, based on the iconic SEGA video game, is expected to finish around $68 million for the four-day holiday frame, which would be the fourth largest Presidents' Day opening ever, with some anticipating the film will top $70 million by the time the long, holiday weekend is over.

Sonic not only performed well this weekend, it was a hit with audiences, earning an "A" CinemaScore to go along with a 95% audience rating on RottenTomatoes. Opening weekend crowds were 56% male with 70% of the audience coming in aged under 25 years old.
    This is great news!

I'll be honest after all the good things i heard i was expecting something like the Detective Pikachu movie, something fun with a lot of fan service. I honestly went in expecting to at least have some fun...or hoping at least. I just found the entire thing so...dull? At least compared to DP. Nothing seemed to land for me (apart from some of the jokes around the weird aunt for some reason) I just REALLY didn't get this movie...i've spent my entire weekend very down about the whole thing, i really wanted to like this...maybe there's something wrong with me?!

I'm happy it's doing well and people are enjoying it, i honestly am...i just really wish i had it's not like i'm that hard to please, i end up liking almost every film i see! This just did nothing for me, and as a massive fan of Sonic it makes me so incredibly sad i didn't enjoy this...but i can't just pretend i did.

I hope it does well enough to get a 2nd and we finally start getting good video movies more regularly, hopefully by then i'll have warmed to this to enjoy any future outings, but as it stands i'm just going to have to stick with Sonic Forces and the "i hope this games good" mentality of any future games.

my gf and I enjoyed it for what it was, we're both 90's kids who are Jim Carey fans so we're happy with that aspect. but we both agreed, the best video game movie we watched this weekend (and probably the best game movie of all time) was Dragon Quest.

The fact that feminazi nutjobs were attacking this movie and almost forcing people to watch the Bird Shit movie instead must have influenced a lot of viewers to watch Sonic instead. I'm glad it's performing well. Would love a reinassance of Jim Carrey in the 20s.
