So I'm rewatching some performances during the With Teeth era. I forgot how amazing the songs sounded with that lineup. Got me curious to see who your former favorite members of the band were. For me, it's Aaron North (he played the hell out of those songs live), Jerome Dillon (Always loved his drumming) and Charlie Clouser.

Seriously, though, the whole mid-to-late 90’s lineup was who I spent my formative years watching over and over again, so Lohner, Clouser, and company will always have a special place in my heart.

My major problems with Jeordie and Aaron was their singing. Good performers, but every time they had to sing backup, it just killed the song for me.

And of course, Josh Freese the mechanical beast, though it’s been nice to see Ilan bring a comparable energy and talent to the role.

Big fan of Jerome Dillon. Regardless of how stupid it was to not disclose a medical condition and thus jeopardise a tour, I thought he was a great fit. Had a bit of a chat with him at a soundcheck, too. He seemed a friendly, humble individual.

Tbh, I really feel like I missed out on the whole Fragility line-up. I've been a fan since about Further Down The Spiral, but unfortunately, I only started to really get into the band around late 1999. They only played one show here in the UK, and that was *it* until 2005 (I don't count festivals; too expensive, too much hassle). At least we got And All That Could Have Been.

I'm a big fan of Aaron's guitar playing and of course I loved Josh Freese's amazing drum chops. Nothing against Robin and Ilan, who are both super-multi-talented and broadened the sound palette of the live band considerably. But those two guys — just listen to the late-2005 renditions of "Starfuckers, Inc." and "Love Is Not Enough", the insanely intense summer 2006 amphitheatre shows, the early 2007 Europe shows when Year Zero was about to come out. Brilliant, intense stuff!

I was going to say Richard Patrick was great for the live show but the guy is so deranged with his political tirades, that takes him off the list. He's basically the Ted Nugent of left wingers. Completely unhinged whackjob. Watching him destroy whats left of his career on social media is entertaining though. Danny Lohner would be my favorite former NIN member. Great for the live show and a righteous dude.....

I agree. I used to like Richard Patrick a lot, but he's really become unhinged with politics. I don't care for Trump either (I'm a Libertarian), but he's gone off the deep end. Filter just got dropped from a performance in a casino due to the venue not letting him put up the American Flag upside down.

Definitely Aaron. And also Freese, Lohner, and Eustis.

The 2005-2007 incarnation of the live band as a whole is my favorite because of the pure energy that went into shows. Rather than trying to perfectly reconstruct the studio versions, they made some distinctive rearrangements to songs. Some of them stuck (adding bass to "Terrible Lie", adding "The Only Time" breakdown to "Closer") while others were unique to that version of the band (playing the synth part of "Burn" on a bass guitar, the piano version of "Hurt", different guitar parts on "Only", some songs [including "Wish" and "Terrible Lie"] having quasi-solos). Aaron in particular is my favorite because of his less conventional playing style and how he seemed incapable of standing still, to the point where he regularly went out of his way to leap from one side of the stage to the other in a single bound.

Fragility era band was perfect. That's not just nostalgia talking. I really think they were the best fit for the band. Ever.

Aside from them, I liked Josh Freese. Justin was cool as well. In a weird way haha.

I dislike the With Teeth era. As said above, Aaron and Jeordie backing vocals mostly killed it for me, they were truly awful. I prefer Clouser's atmospheric stuff to Alessandro's lo-fi approach.

I don't care about the Tension line-up either. Line-up was too bloated, Pino never really fit the band and the backing vocalists are simply not my style. (For the over-sensitive posters here, go ahead and call me sexist/racist, I know you want to lol).

What exactly is unhinged about fighting the establishment, especially when they are literally fascists locking up kids in fucking cages? What exactly got you into NIN? All the conformity and civil discourse and agreeing to respectfully disagree with absolute monsters? Come off it.

Richard telling everyone he wants people to riot to burn down the white house is a bit unhinged. Richard saying on social media he wants Trump to die is a bit unhinged, and I could give 2 fucks about Trump....Richard cursing out all his fans who disagree with him is a but unhinged. You missed the shitshow on facebook last week after his show got the plug pulled on them, where he started cursing out all his fans who disagreed with him and calling them "retards" and "fat bald pieces of shit" etc. Ritchie boy telling people who were longtime fans to go "fuck themselves" etc....Then after countless people started threatening to boycott Filter, he pulled a Jussie Smollett and claimed some little kid stole his password and was the one insulting all his fans. He could have manned up and took responsibility for what he said instead of bitching out and claiming someone stole his password lmao. Even Filter fans who are liberals were telling him to shut up because of his delusional rantings. Ever since he has kept his mouth mostly shut. You see Ritchie boy isn't left wing like Trent. Ritchie is alt-left.

Aaron North, Josh Freese and Josh Eustis for me. Each brought a unique dynamic to the band.

Going by videos alone (since 9/27/2018 has been my only Nine Inch Nails show), I'd say every member offered something new and could be enjoyed.

    *puts on flame retardant suit*

I don't get the love for Danny. I mean, I don't dislike him in the slightest. But nothing about his tenure with NIN ever felt...unique. He just kind of seemed like "generic rock band guitarist / bassist #265".

Furthering the unpopular opinions, I *loved* the inclusion of Pino on the Tension tour. His playing style seemed perfectly matched for the production of the Hesitation Marks material, not to mention the reworked version of Sanctified and some other treats here and there.

    Okay, banish me now.

05-07 Lineup. I became a fan just before With Teeth came out then delved in to the back catalogue, and my peak was when Year Zero was released. Saw the band twice around that time and they were so intense. A big shame about what happened to Aaron North.

I never understood the love Aaron got. I never liked him as a guitar player. Maybe part of that was because I was pissed Robin was gone, but the whole thing with him running around on stage like he's Eddie Van Halen or some some shit. LOOK AT ME SWING MY GUITAR! LOOK AT ME JUMP OFF MONITORS! EVERYONE LOOK AT ME RUNNING AROUND ON STAGE WITH MY BIG GUITAR! It just reeked of the standard rock and roll guitar player whose guitar is an extension of his dick. Take that shit over to Motley Crue or Guns N Roses.....Not Nine Inch Nails

Also, Justin never got the love he deserved. He's a legendary part of the Beck live lineup and fit like a glove over there....Don't think he ever meshed as well with NIN....Weird because during Beck live shows, he would be totally into it and during NIN shows, he was always much more serious. I think the dude wasn't sure how to act onstage with NIN.
