    A Pale Horse Named Death

Since their third album just came out and they’re now on tour, I decided it’s time to stop bumping the Type O Negative thread and give Sal’s band it’s own spot - hopefully gaining more exposure for him! @ManBurning - please feel free to contribute/add praise to this amazing band!

    Discography:

    2011 - And Hell Will Follow Me / https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/And_Hell_Will_Follow_Me
    2013 - Lay My Soul To Waste / https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lay_My_Soul_to_Waste
    2019 - When The World Becomes Undone / https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_the_World_Becomes_Undone

Sal was the original drummer for Type O Negative. Left the band in 1993 after the release of “Bloody Kisses” and became the drummer for Life Of Agony. Johnny Kelly replaced him as TON’s drummer until Peter passed away in 2010. Now, Sal sings lead for APHND and Johnny is on drums. Kinda awesome how that worked out.

Notable awesome dirge/goth/dark/TON-like songs include: “As Black As My Heart”, “In The Sleeping Death”, “Dead Of Winter”, “Die Alone”, “When Crows Descend Upon You”, “Shallow Grave”, “Growing Old”, “DMSLT”, “Cold Dark Mourning”, “Cracks In The Walls”, “Meet The Wolf” and “Devil In The Closet”. All of these songs mentioned are from the first two records, but you can’t really go wrong with any songs.

Here is a live performance from Wacken 2014. @ManBurning or @elevenism, can you identify what is being played as the intro? There is one song listed as “Funeral Intro” on setlist.fm as well as “Cornucopia” that TON used to cover live, but I have a feeling it’s something else.

    1) To Die In Your Arms
    2) As Black As My Heart
    3) Devil In The Closet
    4) The Needle In You
    5) In The Sleeping Death
    6) Shallow Grave
    7) Growing Old
    8) When Crows Descend Upon You
    9) Die Alone

    Encore:

    10) Killer By Night

Music video for “DMSLT” - the only one the band has made so far:

Sal is donning Peter’s hat during live performances:

“Love The Ones You Hate” made its live debut at Mercury Lounge. “Shallow Grave” was also played but unsure of the rest of the set list at the moment:

Fun fact: on March 23, 2012, the vinyl-only bonus track from “And Hell Will Follow Me” called “Pickup Truck” debuted live at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. Really wish a proper digital copy of that song would be released. Love it. Apparently Johnny didn’t like it that much so it was kept off the CD version.

Can’t find a live video anywhere so here it is playing on vinyl. I recommend ripping it to mp3 and putting it between “Serial Killer” and “When Crows Descend...” in your playlists. It’s quite reminiscient of “Killer By Night” -

With regards to WTWBU, what are some TON similarities you have noticed?

Aside from the obvious slide guitar and similarity of “The Woods” with “Fay Wray...” from Bloody Kisses, I just realised that the “nah, nah nah” refrain at the beginning of “Lay With The Wicked” almost sounds like an homage to “Set Me On Fire,” also from Bloody Kisses.

On the topic of the new album, “We All Break Down” into “Lay With The Wicked” is an awesome transition between two amazing songs. For some reason I just can’t seem to totally get into “Splinters”. That one and “Vultures” were the two I couldn’t really get into, but I’m warming to the latter now.

    ”See the children play...”

I could have sworn it was “dancing devils in your brain” in LTOYH, only to read the lyric booklet and discover it’s “parade”.

    NA tour dates...

Nothing in the west... But it does say more dates announced soon. Hoping for a Vancouver date.

EDIT: Just realized the venue they are playing at in Montreal. That place is a small hole in the wall bar that fits like 100 people. Damn.

God, honestly. I hope there's more demand than expected and they switch venues because that place isn't fit for a bad cover band.

    I'll....be there, I guess.

They're really not popping like that sadly. They are very readily available by my old college station. Not a good sign in terms of how busy they are. They've been up a few times and recently did an interview there. Look at that admat for the tour. That's some amateur stuff. Not a huge push behind them unfortunately. I believe these guys all work regular jobs so dunno how much can go into the band. I could be wrong though.

    Mercury Lounge show live video:

    To Die In Your Arms
Love The Ones You Hate (Live Debut)
    Shallow Grave
    Cracks In The Walls

Does anyone know what the full set list was?

Incidentally, I managed to grab a signed copy of “And Hell Will Follow Me” with the booklet signed by Sal. I was always under the impression that it came out in 2011, but it was actually 2010 before it got a wide release. I guess that explains why “Die Alone” on YouTube was posted in 2010.

The 2010 version has quite a glossy cover and a slightly different tray for the booklet. Also different details on the back. Comparative pics above.

Vultures In The North is the new tour name, btw.

They also made a post looking for someone to direct their second ever music video. It’ll be something that tells a story, not a band performance like the DMSLT video.

Pretty good set lists recently. Actually, the only complete one I’ve managed to find so far from a Facebook photo:

edit - someone recorded the gig:

The guys did a 2 song acoustic set at WSOU - https://www.twitter.com/APHND/status/1118456968212094978

If anyone finds them can you please post? Curious what songs they chose. Probably WTWBU and Die Alone...

if they don't make their way online beforehand, I will be at WSOU next week (I mentor there...graduated from Seton Hall/WSOU many moons ago) and can probably get the audio then.

Damn, hope you feel better soon Bugs!

Is there any chance you can ask one of your contacts which two songs they played? Haven’t been able to find a mention of it anywhere yet.

They did LTOYH acoustically at another radio show a couple of days ago.

Actually it seems like they’re doing a bunch of interviews + acoustic performances for promo at the moment.

I got with my production kid and all we found was audio of an earlier phone interview. now were trying to get in touch with the girl who did the interview when they came in for the acoustic set to see if she recorded elsewhere in the station, or worst case...didn't record it at all! Sadly, that is possible too.

@ManBurning @bobbie solo - Ok, so they’re shooting a video for “Fell In My Hole” in Sweden (http://www.freemanpromotions.com/a-p...ecomes-undone/) and the record label are getting them to release a 7” in June. According to a recent interview with Sal it’ll probably feature two cover songs. One of them might be this Neil Young cover of “Old Man” (me speculating):

    Also, new 20-something minute interview with Johnny in a car/truck: https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10157449909257160&id=27114035 7159&__tn__=%2As%2As-R
