The UK has multiple parties and they get fuck all done. They have so many domestic problems, and they continue to dither and dick around with Brexit. And let's face it, Brexit is pouring a tanker of fuel onto the dumpster fire party.

Back to Trump - it is aggravating that he'll probably not be impeached. A trial will happen, the Republicans will vote against, and this will just embolden the Angry Cheeto. And I will continue screaming into my pillow at night.

See, I guess if/when it gets all the way to that point I can't understand why they wouldn't opt to just get rid of the orange guy. Unless Pence would somehow be out too, it just seems like he would be a much more grounded, predictable and controllable person for the Republican party (and truly even more terrifying, honestly). Though I suppose his time in office would be limited until elections, presuming this all takes place in the next year, and who knows what his chances of (re-)election would then be.

The Republicans have nothing to do with him being impeached. That happens in Congress, where Democrats hold 235 seats. A simple majority is needed, which is 218.

We need to stop using "impeachment" as a synonym to "removed from office".

Because Trump galvanizes his supporters and they make up a significant portion of the republicans base. If they impeach Trump it's that much harder to win in 2020.

They have to ask themselves the questions:
    1) Will we gain more ditching Trump than we do losing him?
    2) Is it worth destorying the country to hold on to power?

Yep! All having multiple parties has given us is a fuck load of tossers all looking to cash a hefty pay cheque for almost zero work, some far FAR worse then others.

Yes, I know. I should have used removed from office. I know we need the 2/3 majority of the senate, which is what I was alluding to.

Republicans know this is fucked, but I think he’s tested the waters enough, and now he knows he could literally eat a screaming baby live during his state of the union speech and he’d still have McConnel’s support

it doesn’t help that since impeachment talks got real, he’s gotten 8.5 million in donations from 50,000 new donators

Do we have any way of knowing that money isn't coming from Russian oligarchs but is made to look like random us citizens?

Wow. I'm easily impressed when Republicans hold the country before party. That bar is set so low though...

I'm a huge fan of Rachel Maddow. She has a great breakdown (from last night, I'm in the UK) on things.
For me, the analysis brings the big picture into focus. Trump fixation on exonerating Russia entangles Barr, Pompeo.

I think we are screwing up nomenclature, here.

The House of Representatives does the impeaching.

The Senate does the trial after the impeachment.

“Congress” = The House and The Senate

Yup, you're right. I was both tired and cranky when I wrote that. My bad!

This thing about a moat with gators and snakes at the border, an electric wall and shooting migrants in the leg to slow them down? What in the god damn hell? He just keeps elevating himself to be one of the worst people alive. What is this goof still doing in the White House? Get a net and a tranquilizer, Jesus fucking Christmas. I'm just stunned at how this has been allowed to continue.

Oh my god... on some level, I know this should be funny.. like Doctor Evil demanding sharks with lasers on their fricking heads...

but I think Trump has destroyed comedy too... nothing’s funny anymore. He started with destroying satire, and now absurdity is also dead. I miss fun

McConnell might be wanting to hold immediate impeachment trial so he can file immediately motion to dismiss (Democrats did this at the Clinton impeachment trial).

Yeah. Now I'm about convinced that he is trying to be removed. How are you going to repeat the same behavior that has you in hot water in a PUBLIC setting?

So the China thing...I haven't got quite a clear picture on it yet, so correct me if I'm wrong...but this was a tweet or news conference or something, right? This was one of those "hey China, you oughta do this wink wink" statements and not literally a direct conversation with Xi Jinping in which he explicitly asked for this in exchange for something, right?

100% not saying that it makes it okay, because it's not. It's unacceptable to anyone with even a shred of standards. But it seems like the entire GOP and DOJ have already said that that sort of thing is fine with them. So why would he think he needs to stop doing it?

You know what’s crazy? You can tell the lies by the way they’re denied. Rewind back to the “crazy Stormy Daniels” thing, and Giuliani how insane it was and how he’s too classy to fuck a porn star.

Pence and Giuliani are going to jail, we will see about the guy who told them to lie and if there’s anything we “can” do about that

him saying his China quote today won't change anything. he says these things because he knows he'll get away with it. I don't think he's saying it because he wants to be removed. he's a narcissist, he doesn't want to be removed.

He wants to be impeached. He thinks it's the best strategy to getting re-elected. He might be right.

Apparently there's a phone call with China as well re: dirt on Biden (Warren as well!) and it happened in June!
