    Woodstock 2019

    It's back!
    Aug 16-18, 2019!
    Woo-hoo! Let's party like it's 1999, motherfuckas!

    https://globalnews.ca/news/4798871/w...h-anniversary/

No confirmed acts yet. But some of the rumors include:

Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Logic, Chance The Rapper, Pink, Lorde, The Weeknd, Coldplay, Kesha, Mumford and Sons, Lumineers, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Eminem, Graham Nash, Neil Young, Santana, The Who, Phish, Joan Baez, Bon Jovi, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Zac Brown Band, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Daft Punk, Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5, Skrillex, Steve Aoki,

Foo Fighters are absolutely everywhere these days. So I think those guys are probably confirmed. No way Dave would pass up on an opportunity to play a woodstock show. I also see Daft Punk thrown in there. I really, badly need to see Daft Punk live in person. But I doubt they'll be there. Daft Punk is always rumored to play at every festival these days and it never happens. 95% of stuff listed above, even though rumors, is not my cup of tea. So, it needs to be a pretty amazing list for me to want to go.

Would be neat if NIN returned and did either a 30th anniversary PHM set or a 25th anniversary TDS set... One can dream. Doubt it'll happen.

I don't see how this will be anything less than a clusterfuck of chaos just like the last one, but hey. Here's hoping lol.

You don't think they've taken note from successful festivals like Bonnaroo and Coachella to make people don't burn the place down again?

There’s a whole lot of crap in that rumor mill.

Theres so so many festivals now, including the “mega” ones (Bonnaroo, Lolla, Coachella, etc.), that none of these feel special anymore.

    Meh.

Speaking of Coachella, that’s not too far away. When does that line up usually get released?

It used to be pretty random throughout January but it's been the first week the last few years. Everyone's expecting it on the 2nd. Speaking of that, the Coachella message board is being shut down on the 31st.

I've worked other major festivals at that site. As long as they've done their due diligence as far as planning goes and actually hire enough staff, they should be fine.

Wonder if I'll end up working this one.

Apparently Woodstock won't give live nation the naming rights and it will be called the Bethel Woods Arts Celebrations, a quote:

The Bethel Woods Center For The Arts' celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the greatest festival of all time, planned for the summer of 2019, are not produced, sponsored by or affiliated with Woodstock Ventures LC, the organizer of the 1969 festival and its other reunion festivals, and are not Woodstock events.

I guess they don't won't to be tied to shitty ticketmaster and all the shit bands, lol.

That statement is from the Woodstock guy not Livenation, I think there will be two festivals. Is there a source for this, Woodstock has nothing to do with the Bethel Woods Fest. I can't wait for the real Woodstock to be announced and blow the Bethel Woods fest off the map. Fuck them and Live Nation for trying to capitalize off of Woodstock, what a shame.
    EDIT:
Yep two festivals the money grab poser shit Bethel Woods Fest from Live Nation at Bethel and the real Woodstock 2019 at a different location.

I just said to myself "original guy who put on Woodstock '69... what is he, 75 years old? He's still alive...

Just googled him... wow, I was almost right on the money, he's 74. Good for him. Glad he's fighting to keep the rights of the festival he helped create.

I am hoping for a good lineup from the Lang produced festival. He did, afterall, put together Woodstock 94, which was one of my favorite festivals ever. 99 was a disaster. I hope the 19 one is more like the 94 one, and even at the same location as the 94 one. Of course, the NIN performance in 94 was one of their most iconic. I recall watching it on PPV as a kid with my family- it was a huge gathering, like people coming to watch a sports event. So awesome, a memory I'll hold forever. Now, I wish I could have been there, mud and all. The Cranberries, Metallica when they were good, the iconic Blind Melon performance etc.

I was fourteen and already a huge nin fan. My hs girlfriend's uncle was a sound tech and he made us a cassette bootleg of the NIN set. I treasured that thing and I wish I still had it.

As far as these latter day woodstocks, MAN. Do the promoters not see the fucking irony in the rampant commercialism that is antithetical to the spirit of the original thing? You just can't reproduce that shit.
But I wish they would TRY to do SOMETHING to truly honor the spirit of the OG: they could start with free water- get a sponsor to donate free water in exchange for the visibility and hipness the brand would attain.
And they could do other things like this.
    I wish they would.

14 year old me thought this was the coolest thing ever as well:

Enjoyed the Cypress Hill performance too. Putting all the weed talk and imagery front & center seemed so rebellious at the time. It's become trite and too common everywhere since though:

Apparently the festival will be held at Watkins Glen:

Since the lineup will more than likely be utter shit (still optimistic though!), I propose the racetrack be open to the public (ie novice weekend track junkies) during said festival.

Dude, Woodstock 94 makes me so jealous that I was only 4 years old at the time. Just seeing people talk about how they watched it live on PPV and how it changed their perception of the music they liked is awesome and I wish I was involved in that. You had Metallica, Primus, RHCP, NIN, Cypress Hill, etc. All of those great acts from multiple genres and it blew peoples minds. I don't think we'll get it like that again but it's cool to see that they're going to do something this year.

It really was a major moment. I still have my 6 VHS tapes that I made that weekend. Yes the performances are on youtube, but I like the extra stuff, in between bands, etc that I have.

Add to which you also had bands like CSN, The Allman Brothers Band, Traffic and other classic rock staples in the mix as well and you have yourself a very odd but compelling bill.

I went to Woodstock 94 with my then friend, now husband, and a couple other friends. We drove from Florida in a '69 VW bus that broke down in the parking lot and with help from a bunch of other people, pushed it up a hill to park. The whole trip/festival was awesome. The CSN - NIN - Metallica lineup was an odd but great combo. I wasn't the biggest NIN fan before, but after watching that performance, I was. I have such a clear memory of those hours standing there watching those bands. I have a bunch of Woodstock 94 money tokens around here somewhere. I know I have a $20 and a few others (the only currency vendors would accept). I wonder if they would take them as payment this summer, lol. After we left the 94 location (btw, the van started right back up when leaving), we joined up with a caravan of maybe 6 other VW vans and went to the Bethel site for a night where they were having a smaller, totally different vibe festival.

We do plan on going to Woodstock 19 right now. And also bring our two teenagers. But I kind of don't want to commit until I see a line up. I'm sure it will be a completely different experience now at 45 than it was at 20. When we left in 94, I can't remember exactly where they were hanging, maybe on some toll booths on the highway or maybe just the exit, but there were signs that said "See you in 2019" and I remember thinking how far away that seemed and I would be so old then. Now I can say I don't really feel much older, but I wonder where the fuck the last 25 years has gone.

I don't think I still have my tapes, but yeah, I was a bit too young to go, so my mom bought it for me on PPV. I watched all weekend, taped the whole thing, and watched a lot of it again many, many times over the subsequent years.

Five years later, I was old enough to go to Woodstock '99, which was a hell of an experience. Seeing Rage Against The Machine, Metallica, RCHP, The Offspring, Bush, Alanis Morissette, Jewel, Elvis Costello, George Clinton, James Brown, and more in the same weekend, becoming the leader of a pack of mud people, rushing the MTV stage to throw mud at Carson Daly, somehow losing my shirt during RHCP, and the shit show of the fires... it was something.

oh man, I would LOVE if you can somehow upload that to youtube. I loved the inbetween stuff as well! there were bits and pieces of it on youtube through the years, but for one reason or another, they've been taken down.

yeah, woodstock 94 was certainly a life changing moment for me as a kid. I still watch performances from that show throughout the year.

this sounds like such an awesome experience. I ran a Google+ page for Woodstock 94, and also was part of a group on Facebook when I used to have it. I just love seeing the pics and hearing everyone's stories from that weekend. I really hope you and your kids go.

I'm in NJ, and I always told myself after 94 that I'd go when I'm old enough...well, I guess I kinda have to go now right? I am waiting to see the lineup though.

"Artists such as Dead and Company, Santana, The Killers, Imagine Dragons and Chance the Rapper will be performing at the festival, which is taking place at the Watkins Glen International Speedway, about an hour-and-a-half east of the orginal Woodstock site, where non-profit Bethel Woods is planning its own tribute at its 15,000-person amphitheater with Live Nation."

I'll reserve judgement until the full lineup is revealed.

I remember older folks saying the 94 lineup was shit because of bands like NIN and Metallica. same thing this time lol
