Sega Genesis and NES emulator recommendations

I know there are quite a few options out there for both of these, but I'm basically looking for the easiest emulator for both of them. I'm not too concerned about how many features the emulator has, I just want it to work and possibly still be supported by the developer.

So... does anyone have any suggestions for a Sega Genesis and NES emulator that fits that criteria?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for credible web sites that provide safe downloads of these two systems?

    OS of choice is W10.

Retroarc is your main choice. Its actually an ice interface that will download the emulator ( known as cores) for you. And they have em all. You just need to add the roms to your library.

You also will have to find BIOS files for some systems (PSX, Neo-Geo, etc).

I used Snes9x once upon a time for Super Nintendo.

    https://www.emuparadise.me

Use that site and look around.

Gens is the established king for Sega Genesis/Megadrive/32X/CD. There are numerous popular emulators that are modified versions of Gens, as AFAIK it hasn't been updated in a very long time, but the original still works perfectly for me in Windows 10.

Bear in mind though, the best versions of Sonic 1, 2 and CD aren't emulated - they're the mobile versions for Android and iOS. The key guys behind Sonic Mania developed those a few years ago, using what became Mania's engine to rebuild the old games with modern features. So you can play them in 16:9 widescreen, at 60FPS, with an uprated soundtrack, and Sonic 3-esque save data. They also have bonus features, so for example you can spindash in Sonic 1, use elemental shields in Sonic 2, or play as Tails in Sonic CD.

That version of Sonic CD is also on Steam, Xbox 360 and PS3, but 1&2 are only on mobiles for some reason. Sega won't release Sonic 3 & Knuckles in any form due to legal issues with the music (most likely Michael Jackson's estate). Which is a shame given that it's the best of the series, and IMO the best platformer ever.

Thanks guys, I plan to try out all 3 of the emulators to find the best fit. My daughter is coming of age and I want to "properly" introduce her to video games (although if it was proper I guess I would be using the real thing, right?!), I figured Mario and Sonic would be the best

Good luck, my kids try the old games, and they complain how hard it was for them. I told them that was they way back in the day, we got good because there was no hand holding. Kids just dont understand.

And yet, both you and I are old men with slow old-man reflexes, so if we actually come face to face with some super-ninja 14 year old Street Fighter master, we will lose. And they're out there. I promise you. The internet has taught me a few things, but... there's some people out there who are horrifyingly good at fighting games, and they all sound too young to buy a beer legally.

Pretty much. I avoid multiplayer when it comes to fighting games. I’ll take on the AI to make myself feel good.

If you're looking for a "proper" introduction, might I suggest a Retro Pie?

    https://retropie.org.uk

You could even make building it a team project, if that's the kind of thing she might enjoy.
