Hey, so, A.) Beto is only 6 points behind Abbot, currently.
(he's not going to win high office here under any circumstances because of.that one time he committed political suicide, but this is still cool to see.)

Also, this: (Beto destroys Texas governor in must see takedown.)

And, B.) According to recent polls, Matthew McConaughey is ahead of Abbot by 8 points when voters were asked if they'd prefer McConaughey, Abbot, or "someone else."

We're still.not sure if MM is running, but "it'd be a lot cooler if he DID." He describes himself as an "aggressive centrist."
Suppose he runs as a moderate Democrat and beats Beto in the primary- I'm PRETTY sure he'd have a better chance than Beto against Abbott.

    I love the slogan.
He could also say "you gonna vote for me? It'd be a lot cooler if you DID!" (from dazed and confused lololol)
But if he runs as an independent, i'm not sure he'll have a real chance. Even trump needed party support.

SO. a lot of texas republicans are unhappy with Greg Abbott, for multiple reasons. People literally froze to death under his watch, and conservative college educated women aren't loving this attack on Roe V Wade.
If he (McC) ran as a moderate republican, he MIGHT could beat Abbott in the primary.
    Hell.
We've already got a few cats on the right looking to win the Republican primary, but only politics nerds (ahem...i...umm, cough, West, Huffines, Prather...yeah, hmmm... ) know who they are.
Could a McConaughey win that primary? Hell. Look at Reagan, or the Governator. He won Cali, FFS, as a REPUBLICAN.

OR, McConaughey could run as a conservative democrat (remember THOSE?) and likely have a better chance at getting over on Gov Abbott than Beto has.
Beto, god love him, made that ONE mistake. Hell, I LOVE HIM. I thought he was the next JFK, except more punk rock.
But you can't tell people in the south that you're LITERALLY coming to confiscate their guns.

Edit: you also can't tell people in the US in GENERAL that you're coming to confiscate ANYTHING currently legal, and expect to be elected, i don't think. That shit SCARES people.

Ross Perot was pretty popular in Texas.

    You never know.

There are still a lot of conservative Democrats. Joe Manchin is one (even though he says he’s a centrist).

Texas HATED JFK. It’s the only reason JFK chose LBJ as his running mate; JFK couldn’t stand LBJ. JFK was warned not to go to Dallas.

Reagan was in 1967. During the Nixon era. Reagan had been a big union guy. Schwarzenegger won as a populist, and he was married to a Kennedy.

Re confiscation: It’s totally impossible without Gestapo tactics, e.g. door-to-door searches of all households without warrants, so I immediately lose respect for any anyone who says dumb shit like that. Because it’s A LIE.

Yeah, i mean, hell. Maybe he COULD win as a third party candidate. Remember the whole Third Way thing?
Mr. McC hasn't said much about specific issues, but i have a funny feeling he'd be in that ballpark, both from what i've read of his book, and the fact that he called himself an aggressive centrist.

    As far as Cali:
True, regarding Reagan. i guess my writing was unclear, though.

I was talking about Arnold Schwarzenegger in 03, wining Cali in the recall, and then winning another term.

Yes. See my edit, I missed the Arnold reference.

Remember that Reagan and Arnold were/are both ACTORS … in Hollywood. The populist attraction won them the seat far over any party affiliation.

Re now, Texas (or any state): There are voters who refuse to vote for any Democrat. It’s ingrained in their respective psyches. Just like Democrats who refuse to vote for any Republican, ever. Even if it’s someone they really like. But if someone runs as an independent in a state race, you really don’t need big party backing.

Bill Walker (Alaska), Lincoln Chafee (Rhode Island), Charlie Crist (Florida), Jesse Ventura (3rd Party, Minnesota), Angus King (Maine),

Good examples, regarding running as an independent.

    ALSO
Speaking of Arnold's connections, i read today that Arnold supposedly asked Ted Kennedy for advice on his California campaign, and TK told him something like BE VAUGE ABOUT EVERYTHING.
Perhaps McConaughey could use a similar strategy to build a strong backing.

    I hope he runs.
It might seem cartoonish, but he also might seriously be able to right the ship.

Hell, i keep hoping Tom Hanks will run for president.

Yeah, why is he running? What is he THINKING?

I remember that quote in fucking slow motion:
"Heellllllllll yeeeeeesssss weeeeeeeee're taaaaaaaaaaking yooouuuuur guuuuuuns,"
    And I was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Got DAMN, Beto. You just wrote the Republican's commercials against you for the rest of your fucking life.

The only way he can win ANYTHING is by solemnly backpedaling on that shit.

I've long suggested that all Biden needs to do to win over republicans is walk around carrying an assault rifle at all times.

They really have to just throw him in jail. This has to end like that. He can't just go out farting this sort of idiocy while his mouth-breather cultists claim that he's going to rise on the third day, or whatever...

It's so crazy to realize that this Onion article (that he tried to sue them for) came out in 2013... well before he ever even realistically flirted with becoming POTUS. It's so surreal. He was already such a gigantic reprehensible bag of shit

Why can't he stop?! Can you imagine if he runs again, and he's like 80, and he becomes the "first president in history to lose the popular vote three times and be impeached twice before his second term"
GO AWAY. We get it, our electoral system is broken, but you ARE CLEARLY NOT THE PERSON WE WANT.

David Perdue entering to the GA Gov race to challenge Kemp for the GOP nom. That should be a nice primary bloodbath / money drainer with Abrams waiting on the Dem side. Lots to love about that.

i’m not religious but i might convert if it’ll get stacey elected. Kemp’s policies are only good for businesses. we need a person for the people. fingers crossed. elections are hard.

Justice Department is suing Texas over discrimination against Black and Latino voters regarding the RIDICULOUS new gerrymandering (which ties every urban area to the nearest redneck areas.)

    Thank GOD.

I hope this works, and I hope this is just the beginning.

you wonder sometimes how stupid they could possibly be and then you realize that it's not their stupidity you need to look out for, it's the people who believe them.

You heard about the Republicans too?! :P

Jokes aside, it's the grim reality, and it's their MO. The worst of it is convincing ignorant poor people to vote for policymakers who will LITERALLY make their lives HARDER, "because Jesus." OH, and also, SOCIALISM, a fearsome, nebulous concept that gives them the food stamps and affordable healthcare and such.

98% of the grim bastards in the house and senate know better when it comes to "election fraud" and 1-6, but I'm not sure all of THAT (edit: the beliefs of the base) has to do with stupidity entirely: propensity to being brainwashed by incessant propaganda is part of the equation, too.

It IS utterly infuriating. What really frightens me are the voter suppression laws, and the apparent motivation of the base. We can only hope that some of it partially backfires and keeps THEIR base from voting.

I know this is drifty but according to Bing today is Dennis Hastert's birthday. Go ahead and read his wiki page on the things he was not just accused of but convicted of. There are so many other Republican's on his page that he defended who were also convicted of the same thing - being a child predator - that it beggars belief.

it's quite disturbing, especially combined with the recent revelation that current GOP leader Donald Trump DID, in fact, fly on Epstein's Lolita Express seven times, and that Epstein brought a 14 year old girl to Mar-a-Lago, to meet him. His statement on Ghislaine Maxwell's arrest was some cagey bullshit like "I wish her well, frankly; i met her many times because i lived in Palm Beach and i GUESS they lived in Palm Beach," AND he's stayed silent on the verdict and the fact that his unholy name name came up multiple times in the trial.
Meanwhile, Don Jr said "she might be dead in the next week."

This might NOT be drift; it may open the eyes of reasonable people who honestly believed that Trump wasn't involved with Epstein. Alas, the Qanon crowd likely thinks he was there doing reconnaissance to prevent Tom Hanks from "eatin' babies" or something- 9D backgammon and such.

The “Green Bay Sweep” was an attempted COUP, it violated several U.S. Codes, NONE of it was legal OR Constitutional.

But here’s Peter Navarro tonight crowing as if he was the mastermind behind a brilliant plan that thwarted by some protesters.

Navarro ALSO told Ari that the Secretaries of State who certified the elections in Michigan and Pennsylvania were “put there by George Soros.”

I just read some frightening numbers and information.

163 Republican candidates who "believe" Trump's election fraud claims are running for positions that would give them authority over the administration of elections, including:

18 for secretary of state in places where that person is the top election official, (with unprecedented fundraising ramping up for these traditionally quiet races)

13 for State Attorney General ( with many running campaigns about fighting Biden, not crime)

69 for governor in 30 states

    55 for US Senate

The implications are terrifying, here. This is how the Trump party can manipulate future elections, just in case the voter suppression isn't enough.

This sounds to me like a recipe for ending democracy as we know it.
