i was about to say the fact that the band hadn't officially mentioned it made me question its authenticity as being officially released, but i'm glad to know it's legit.

The album is on Tidal and you can purchase the FLAC for $17.99. I don't use Tidal, does anyone know if this is just 16/44 CD quality or if it's Hi-Res?

TIDAL is always the most expensive lossless retailer, and they only offer 16/44, so I would never buy from them.

This particular release was only released in 16/44, so that eliminates a couple of 24-bit-only retailers like ProStudioMasters and AcousticSounds. Qobuz is the cheapest, but here are all the options:

    16/44 lossless:
    Qobuz - $12.99
    7Digital - $13.49
    TIDAL - $17.99

    MP3/AAC:
    Amazon - $9.49
    iTunes - $9.99
    TIDAL - $9.99
    7Digital - $8.99

I placed an order for this with a local record store....they forgot to order it for me, its been fun digging around trying to find it at an indie shop (yeah I know I can get it from big box, but I'm a vinyl junkie, I want to support the small shops). Its out of stock at a lot of places, if you have not picked it up yet you might want to grab it soon.

Apologies if this is a silly question, but does anybody know if the digital version available online is remastered audio?

I understand that TSN was never released digitally ‘remastered’ upon its re-release, so I thought I’d ask about this, too.

Official store restocked. UK price still exorbitant. Has anybody found alternative UK stockists?

Still waiting for Canadian retailers to get this in stock. Have a amazon.ca order for $15 with credits since October. It keeps going temporarily out of stock or unavailable but I know they never got stock at all.

Interesting thanks. It’ll be a surprise to nobody, but it’s not in the UK iTunes Store or the UK Amazon MP3 store.

I bought one from some guy in one of the Facebook groups I'm in and I have to say, it turned out extremely well. It's on better paper than the official ones, too.

Kinda off topic as it's not directly about the music but i thought those who love Quake and the soundtrack would enjoy seeing this little mini-doc that came out about the game. (although be warned, it's very nerdy and technical but we're NIN fans, we like things nerdy and technical right?)

They do of course touch briefly on NIN's killer soundtrack work and the music format for about a minute or so at 7:35 mark.

Longtime fan. Never played the game. Never heard the soundtrack. Just dropped on Apple Music and so I finally listened... really great and feels like some kind of sequal to the downward spiral. Like if the protagonist died and went to hell, this is what he heard.

I grew up pretty obsessed with FPS games (Wolfenstein, Doom, Doom II, Heretic, Hexen, Hexen II, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Quake II, Unreal, etc.) and this soundtrack really MADE the atmosphere of the game. It's pretty tame by today's standards, but I remember feeling creeped out (in the best way possible) by Quake when it was new and I loved it. I have very fond memories of playing Quake on the old family PC and discovering NIN through that game and my cousin's Closer single.

I wanna know what modern video game scores make Quake sound tame.

    Some contenders...

Mick Gordon's Doom score from a few years ago...

Lorn's half of the Killzone: Shadow Fall score...

    Amon Tobin's Splinter Cell score...

I was only saying that the game itself is tame by today's standards, not the score.

Excellent examples but kinda only further proves that Quake is exceptional? Amon Tobin and Lorn are so much more accomplished then your average video game composer. And while Mick Gordon works solely on video game music Doom OST probably has given him enough respect and new fans that he could easily go into solo career at this point. By and large most video games still use unimaginative orchestral scores. Not even to mention the wonderful sound design in Quake that was also Reznor's doing.

It's very different from the Quake soundtrack, but if anyone here hasn't heard the Quake II soundtrack by Sonic Mayhem (with contributions from Bill Brown, Jer Sypult, and Rob Zombie), I highly recommend that one as well. It's more past-paced, in-your-face, and heavy metal/industrial than the majority of the Quake soundtrack (excluding the Quake Theme), which is more atmospheric and ambient by comparison (but you already knew that part).

Did anyone take the essay file somewhere to get printed (or did it online)? If so, any recommendations?
