Better Alone (A Trent Reznor Playlist)

Not sure if this justifies a new thread but... Looks like TR has a new "play list" out on Apple Music and Spotify named "Better Alone". Songs featured from recent film work mostly. Saw this in a nin.com email with code for 2018 Paris pre-sale. nin.com pre-sale is 29JAN at 10AM CET

https://nin.lnk.to/BetterAlone - the art work is pretty dope IMO.

Here's a link to the apple play list.

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/playlist...07de?app=music

Here are the songs as listed on apple music:

    01 Ghosts I
And When The Sky Was Opened
    Background Noise
    What If We Could?
    We Forget Who We Are
    Less Likely
    Parallel Timeline with Alternate Outcome
What Have We Done to Each Other?
    Adrift & At Pease
    13 Ghosts II
    8 Billion
    Four Enclosed Walls
    Gone, Still
    Hand Covers Bruise
    A Warm Place
    02 Ghosts I
    The Frail
    28 Ghosts IV
    The Persistence of Loss
    Soft Trees Break the Fall

I have all these songs so I just made a playlist on my iTunes listening to it now trying to get the perspective and POV that TR had in mind for the playlist. I don't have apple music but I did get the email.

    "Darkness optional but recommended"

I had no idea there was any other way to listen to NIN/TR music.

That playlist is fucking boss all the same..

I almost shit myself when I blearily opened an email from NIN and saw this, thought it was the new EP.

I'm kind of torn; this isn't going to be the title of the final EP, but, if it was...does it work? Is it evocative? Or angsty? Too pouty or just pouty enough?

Also, has anyone taken the first letter of each of the tracks and tried anagramming them for clues?

I still have an Apple Music account, apparently, via Family Sharing. Going to check this out later today. Kinda wish it was available on Tidal as well, but the Dragon Tattoo and Social Network scores aren't there for some reason.

I was very intrigued by this as well. It will be interesting to re-experience these songs in a new order.

Also, perhaps I'm reading too much into this, but maybe the third EP will be all instrumental?

It's on Spotify as well for those of us that use that service instead.

Could "Better Alone" play list end up being Seed 9? Seeds 2, 3, and 4 are basically just play lists that have evolved over time... just saying. I'd investigate further but i'm not quite internet savvy enough to dig into meta data of streaming audio files from Apple Music or Spotify.

This works really well, especially if you have a little bit of crossfade between the tracks. Those swirling synths in a lot of the score tracks compliment each other really well.

EDIT: Hand Covers Bruise into A Warm Place...holy shit. Make this happen live.

No new metadata, they are literally just the same files that previously existed on Apple Music in a list with new artwork.

Not a member of any of these services, so I'm throwing together my own playlist from files I already have. What version of A Warm Place is in the playlist? Is it the TDS version with the Eraser reed segue? What about The Frail? Is it just the album version with the abrupt end? Because if that's the case I think I might use the instrumental version of AWP and the Deviations Alternate version of The Frail.

i half expected the playlist to be a troll from trent and just be this song, over and over:

10/10. Trent and Atticus are genious. This makes me feel alone but comfortable too. It's versatile: you can read, you can relax, you can sleep, you can study... In two weeks I'll tell you about the results of my exams.

The title of the playlist is exactly how I feel. Better Alone thats how I feel better off alone, I'd rather be a hermit but one thing at a time. The playlist is a pretty good ride. I really wish (especially now that Atticus is in the band) that NIN would play some of the soundtrack work live.

Are you creating a new "Album" on your computer/itunes by uploading the music files then changing the artwork and then grouping and changing the title of the album? Or is there a way to add artwork to playlists on itunes???

On the Music app on my iThing I can add an artwork to a playlist, just by typing on the cover.

It seems like it is possible on iTunes too : https://support.apple.com/kb/PH19619?locale=en_US

Would love to see the band perform a setlist like this live. In the right venue, it could be astonishing.

This is something I mentioned as well. I believe it was in the Trilogy End thread.

A mix I threw together. It's a single file with some simple crossfades, etc. It makes for a nice listening experience if you have the time to listen to it completely. This is my first time ever sharing anything like this. I like the way it turned out so I thought I'd share. If this is breaking any rules please let me know and I'll remove it.
