I think it could happen, but the advanced age of both will probably prevent it. The VP pick will probably be decidedly younger, and if it's Bernie that runs/wins out, almost certainly will be a woman.

These two will probably make a big decision between them before the primaries start or early enough in 2020. I don't think either of them wants to split the progressive vote and let one of the corporatist Dems leapfrog them as a result. No progressive wants to have to choose between Bernie & Warren.

As such, I think one won't run or will drop out early so that the establishment wing doesn't win out with a faker like Booker or Harris, or worse...someone like "Republican who is ok with gays and brown people" Cuomo, or snoozefest Klobachar. I can't believe that last one thinks she has a chance of energizing anyone with her approach in the current climate. Still not sure what to make of Gillibrand. I'm starting to trust her more and more b/c she's consistently saying all the right things. But that long past track record is still there. Her turn left recently has been very abrupt.

Beto is fantastic, but needs to win this race & serve a term before he runs for President. Being a House member who lost to melting candle face Cruz won't be enough. God I hope he kicks Ted's ass. That piece of shit needs to be gone from public office.

I'm pretty sure it's not Bernie, he will be 79 by then, almost a decade older than Trump was in 2016, and I believe he was the oldest person to be elected for a first term... Joe Biden will be 77 in 2020, so that doesn't quite feel right either...

I'm quite shocked by the lack of rising Democratic stars, btw, 2020 would be an excellent time to run, I'm not saying that it will be an easy time to win, but going against Trump's record AS PRESIDENT is an easy and clear platform, and it would articulate a lot of anxiety people have about the current administration. It's a strong platform to push!

(On a sidenote, at 38, Joe Kennedy III might be too young to run in 2020, but keep an eye on the guy, he'll be a president one day! )

who the fuck is pushing this suggestion that Biden should be the democratic nominee in 2020? I don't care how much anyone personally likes or dislikes Biden, that is just obviously a bad idea on paper... where is this coming from?

I love Warren. Harvard Law Professor, specializing in bankruptcy law. She’s awesome. But, unfortunately, also too old. (She’s 69.)
I think a Warren/Beto ticket would be a home run.

    Yeah, WTF?
I'm also surprised that people still bring up Bernie, like Jesus, no, that ship sailed.

exactly @allegro , so we don't take the bait. They're going to call any number of things "socialism" as a selling point to scare their base, but they're crying wolf at this point.

Part of the reason people voted for Trump is that he was promoting something radically different. And part of the reason he won was because he just ignored the criticism and attacked his opponents.

It's probably take a lot of the piss out of him if a socialist candidate ran and just kept calling him out on his shit rather than getting into an actual debate trying to explain why socialism is good. Trying to be reasonable is what's costing the democrats votes. If they want to win, I think they need to embrace whatever criticism Trump is going to throw at them and ride it like their life depends on it. He won because he appeared a bully, and nobody else wanted to appear a bigger bully, which to many makes him look strong.

If Trump accuses the democratic candidate of socialism they can just say "My locker room talk is about how to help people, not grabbing their pussies you orange sack of shit", and they'll probably be fine.

i feel like the country is desperate for any kind of normalcy in office. look Joe really doesn't have a record of anything two things i personally i look at are what's your record on corporations, war and human rights. again personally we put far to many dollars into defense, what are we defending against look teachers need money infrastructure needs money. what the hell are we still doing in Afghanistan. friend of mine is in special ops. spent three years there. was in intelligence so spent a lot of time talking with people mostly villagers. spent hours talking with him. he told me there is a ton of corruption. look most of them don't even know what the hell 9/11 is. they just knew one day the US showed up carrying guns. most of them our simple farmers and just war some kind of law. ton of land deputes. which they turned to warlords to resolve, number #1 export is still opium. my guess is the CIA. is still running drugs. like they did in Vietnam and central America. seams strange to me every conflict we tend to be in seams to have drug trade as part of it's economy.

I wouldn't say this country is looking for that. I'd say Democrats are looking for that. Republicans are "winning" all day long and have no reason to break up with their abusive leader. Sadly, their version of winning is more like losing for anyone with a shred of basic human empathy.

Count me among those who hope Biden and Sanders don't run. Too old. Hell, I like them both, but I wouldn't want to vote for either one (I would given who we're up against, but for the love of christ, we need to be finding the BEST candidate, not "any candidate who looks better than the dumpster fire that's raging now".)

No. Trump is 72. Sanders is 77.

Doesn't matter though. Point is, he'll be 79 in 2020. My grandfather was a sharp man with good genes, much like Sanders appears to be, but I wouldn't have trusted him with the pressure of running the free world when he was that age.

My Mom was born in 1938. She walks 2 miles per day. She uses Excel spreadsheets to track her monthly bills. She reads books on her Kindle app on her iPad mini, where she also plays endless games of Solitaire. She has mastered the password program I got for her, she records stuff on the DVR.

But she also forgets that I scheduled her doctor appointment the day after I do it, and the other day she asked me what a COLA was (Cost of Living Allowance). Several months ago, she asked me the difference between a liberal and conservative. She used to know this stuff. She doesn’t, anymore. Her MRIs shows she’s healthy.

I wouldn’t trust her to medicate my cat, let alone hold the nuclear codes.
look ok i a Bernie fan i like what he says seen i lot his town halls both one both healthcare and corporations where he gather groups of people together and listens lrts you form your own opinion look in my lifetime the only honest president I've seen was jimmy carter who in my opinion was set up by the military industrial complex to fail so that Regan could take over take and kill the middle class

    2. Holding children for ransom to pay for his wall (remember when holding children hostage was considered a bad thing?).
    3. Using campaign money to cover up an affair he had (don't forget that there was a Democrat who did pretty much the same thing, and had his political career killed over it).
    4. Did he ever release his tax returns? If so, then you can scratch this one off.
    5. Downplaying the prominence of Neo-Nazis at the Unite The Right rally (the "very fine people" comment).
    6. Mueller investigation has resulted in several indictments, five guilty pleas, and one prison sentence (which apparently means nothing to Trump supporters who deny the Russia thing).
    7. His response to Hurricane Maria.
    8. Repeatedly almost getting us into nuclear wars with his tweets.
    9. His tweets in general.
    10. The travel ban.

Special mentions go to his sexual misconduct allegations and his constant attempts to undermine the free press. Sure, he insists the allegations are complete lies, even though he was sued for sexual harassment about two decades before his campaign AND bragged about being able to get away with it, but despite other people (including politicians) with allegations losing their careers, Trump is still getting away with it. Also, the way he calls negative stories about him "fake" indicates that he simply does not like people saying mean things about him, even when most of them are true. Additional special mentions go to him alienating our allies and praising dictators for their "leadership" style. If any Democrat were to do at least one of those things (especially one of the top three) the GOP would be screaming for impeachment. But yet, the GOP is too spineless to stand up to Trump.
    Additional valid reasons:

    11. Defending Putin even after our intelligence had confirmed that Russia was interfering.
    12. His tax fraud allegations.
    13. Interfering with the FBI investigation into the Kavanaugh allegations.

This list will continue to expand until he's either removed or voted out of office.

A LOT of those are not valid reasons to impeach. They're valid reasons to loathe him, hate him with every fiber of your being, and vote for literally anyone who runs against him (unless they somehow manage to bring Hitler back from the dead, but seeing as he wasn't born in America, he couldn't run anyway). But very few of those are actually grounds for impeachment. And this is part of the problem...too many people just yelling "impeach him" over unimpeachable things, and no one stepping up to actually offer a coherent and competitive counter campaign that will result in a Dem taking the White House in 2020.

To be honest, I'm not so sure that seeing Trump impeached is my dream scenario. I mean, I suppose I'll take whatever I can get, but I would rather see him humiliated and defeated in the 2020 election and then banished to the same kind of disgraced reputation as Nixon.

The difference would be that we as a democratic society would be rebuking him, as opposed to some political bureaucracy. It's a more inspiring and meaningful victory. My rallying cry isn't "Lock him up!"... It's "Yes we can!"

Plus, if he gets impeached, he'll most likely be eternally martyred by the right, and be forever seen as a rebel who was framed by our globalist reptilian overlords. Getting wiped out in a fair election doesn't lend itself quite as easily to their thrilling deep state fantasies (although I'm sure they'll think of something).

Yeah. I just want to see him charged with a mountain of felonies on 1/21/21, and in the meantime, throttled enough that he doesn't dig us any deeper. I want him to go down hard as a private citizen.

no surprise he would rather hold a rally than deal with a natural disaster i guess even fox is tiring of his bull shit and are not broadcasting his rallies. kind of on repeat me good everyone else bad we're spending fema money in record amounts mostly on incarcerating immigrants the tax cuts put a gaping hole in our revenue stream. and trump is spending like a drunken sailor. look if we fail to recognize what every scientist in the world is saying it will be game over. and no amount of tribalism or ideology is going to help.

Anybody think getting Kanye in to blather on in the White House means Trump is scared for the mid term elections?

EDIT I take that back actually, I watched the meeting on a jimmy kimmel report and he just seems totally manic, now I’m thinking it’s more like mental illness. Not that I really know. Even Trump seems really shell shocked by it. What are they achieving by publicising that meeting??
