Just because something isn't true doesn't mean people don't believe it, and whether they believe it or not, it doesn't mean the one being accused of pretty pathetic things should be cool with such things being said about them.
This is not at all to speculate about the validity of any/all of Wolff's writings. I'm just saying that it's perfectly reasonable to be outraged at someone saying awful things about you.
