All I could think of when this story broke yesterday was his "I can't support Democrats because they are too mean now, watch them come after me with their filthy lies because I said this" tantrum and how suspiciously convenient the timing of that was. Sure enough, he was asked for a comment on this story on Wednesday morning and by Wednesday afternoon he was decrying the Democrats and saying we should expect the left to respond with "dirty tricks" against him. It's a nakedly obvious bit of damage control and yet the pathetic morons who idolize him will see this story and think "LOOK THEY'RE COMING FOR HIM JUST LIKE ELON SAID."

I keep reading that since it's Federal charges he needs to actually do most of those years before parole is an option. On top of that the fact it's not the most strict punishment - i.e. not 20-ish years - he cannot really appeal for 'harsh sentencing'. I mean he probably will but it's not likely to stick.

Yeah, there’s really no early release from Federal prison. You can get out a few months early but you must go to a halfway house.

A jury awarded Johnny Depp more than $10 million on Wednesday in his libel lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard, vindicating his stance that Heard fabricated claims that she was abused by Depp before and during their brief marriage.
The jury also found Heard was defamed by a lawyer for Depp who accused her of creating a detailed hoax that included roughing up their apartment to look worse for police. The jury awarded her $2 million in damages.
The verdicts bring an end to a televised trial that Depp had hoped would help restore his reputation, though it turned into a spectacle of a vicious marriage. Throughout the trial, fans — overwhelmingly on Depp’s side — lined up overnight for coveted courtroom seats. Spectators who couldn’t get in gathered on the street to cheer Depp and jeer Heard whenever they appeared outside.

I can't say anything about the verdict in itself, but what I find hard to stomach with the trial is its media coverage, where Depp is often seen smiling or quietly listening, and Heard is seen vindicative, angry and teary. Having worked in the media in the past, I know the editors pick photos to make the buzz and create a narrative, but here it reminds me of the depiction of an angry or emotionnal woman as hysterical etc. There's still a long way to go.
(I actually have a lot more thoughts about this but I'm tired and english isn't my first language)

Depp is a narcissist, 2kool4skool dude, quite self-absorbed, while Amber got exposed pretty badly as a conniving, borderline psychopath. I'd say what we've seen during the trial were pretty accurate. It's just that Amber is a terrible actress, so whenever she tried to fake some emotions for sympathy it backfired (ie. her terrible attempts at fake crying). Whether Depp has an actual kind side to him, a better actor or both, I don't know, but he (and his team) did a much better job.

The biggest thing I learned after watching most of this LONG trial is that Depp has a really bad alcohol problem. Holy crap.
