    Ready Player One

Would absolutley love an ARG for the upcoming Speilberg movie Ready Player One in March 2018. I know we all would like YZ 2.0 ARG... but since it probably wont happen along with the miniseries either. Ready Player One would be amazing as an ARG. Anyway, sorry but obsessed with this book right now.

Book was entertaining but overrated Imo... I also felt it was really flawed in its story arc. I don't think it'll make a good movie, even though the book felt like it was a screenplay pitch...

    Love to be surprised though.

Just finished the book, kinda blah ending. I hope they use it as a jumping off point to either make a cool ARG or better movie. The trailer looks good anyway.

@schmoo78 or the sequel he's already working on. @allegate they mimic other movie posters, don't see what's so terrible. isn't this the whole point of this movie/book?

The movie? It's increasingly looking that way. The book? Not so much.

Am i missing something? Everyone (critics and geeks alike) in my soical feeds seem to be really hating on this and i don't know why.
The book was good, it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was a fun read, and i haven't seen anything that suggests the movie will be awful...are people just hating it because they hated the book and nobody else can enjoy something they didn't or is there a genuine reason (one of the actors is a convicted rapist, the book authors a peedo, the studio making the film has some really sleazy practices on worker rights)???

i think part of the reason people are hating on it already is that the entire marketing campaign is like "hey look at this thing you love from your youth that we have taken and re-purposed for our own profit!" and it's kind of frustrating. like, let a movie stand on its own laurels...except they can't because the movie itself is actually filled with that stuff. also from the trailers i've seen, it looks like it's mostly (not very good) CGI. plus the lead actor has zero charisma.

i haven't read the book, but i've talked to people about it who liked it but acknowledge that it has some...issues. also, i know the author's second book is very misogynistic and "special white boy is the only one who can save the galaxy" and also a complete ripoff of The Last Starfighter.

I suspect it's just hype backlash, mostly.

I haven't read the book though. It's been sitting on my shelf for a long time cause someone bought it for me a year or two ago. I've tried to read it a couple times, but I just can't get invested in it.

I can understand that...just feels a little...extreme? I haven't found it nearly as bad, but then again i liked the book and all the nods to stuff i knew, and found the trailer enjoyable. I will admit those posters are awful, but that happens with good and bad movies nowadays (i wish someone would teach whoever keeps making these awful posters how to use photoshop, it's not difficult!)

I'm seeing it on the 19th at a preview screening to see how well the movie holds up as a film, though i'm worried most people have already made their minds up and nothing but a A+ will change that.

It's the first book i've ever really got into and enjoyed, but i guess it was really just the references that i was really into. No point forcing yourself to read it now the films coming, hopefully it's good.

I seen trailer previews for this before Star Wars: The Last Jedi and both me and my friend concluded it looked like trash. I don't expect this to go over well, even with Spielberg attached to it.

So early reports from people having seen it are...good. The general consensus is it's a ton of fun (even some people that were giving it a lot of shit before in my timeline) some even going as far to suggest it fixes the books faults...

Well i'm a little more excited for next Monday now

WB film division has some serious issues, marketing included!

Shades of Scott Pilgrim out of SDCC in 2010. Ready Player One is tailor-made for SXSW and should be receiving praise, but I'm unsure if the responses there are indicative of what will happen with a wide release. I'm still cautious.

    Nerd Porn Auteur

I've noticed that there don't seem to be any porno movies
that are made for guys like me.

All the porn I've come across
was targeted at beer-swilling sports bar dwelling alpha-males
Men who like their women stupid and submissive
Men who can only get it up for monosyllabic cock-hungry nymphos
with gargantuan breasts and a three-word vocabulary
Adult films are populated with these collagen-injected
    liposuctioned women
Many of whom have resorted to surgery and self-mutilation
in an attempt to look the way they have been told to look.

These aren't real women. They're objects.
And these movies aren't erotic. They're pathetic.
These vacuum-headed fuck bunnies don't turn me on.
    They disgust me.
And it's not that I'm against pornography.
I mean, I'm a guy. And guys need porn.
    Fact.
"Like a preacher needs pain, like a needle needs a vein,"
    Guys need porn.

But I don't wanna watch this misogynist he-man woman-hater porn.
I want porno movies that are made with guys like me in mind:
Guys who know that the sexiest thing in the world
is a woman who is smarter than you are.

You can have the whole cheerleading squad,
I want the girl in the tweed skirt and the horn-rimmed glasses:
    Betty Finnebowski, the valedictorian.
    Oh yes.
First I want to copy her Trig homework,
and then I want to make mad, passionate love to her
    for hours and hours
until she reluctantly asks if we can stop
because she doesn't want to miss Battlestar Galactica.
    Summa cum laude, baby!
That is what I call erotic.

But do you ever see that kind of a woman in a contemporary adult film?
    No.
Which is why I'm going to start writing and directing Geek Porno.
I shall be the quintessential Nerd Porn Auteur.
And the women in my porno movies will be the kind
that drive nerds like me mad with desire.

I'm talking about the girls that used to fuck up the grading curve.
The girls in the Latin Club and the National Honor Society.
Chicks with weird clothes, braces, four eyes, and 4.0 GPAs.
Brainy articulate bookworms, with MENSA cards in their purses
    and chips on their shoulders.

My porn starlets will come in all shapes and sizes.
My porn starlets will be too busy working on their PhD to go to the gym.

In my kind of porno movies the girls wouldn't even have to get naked.
They'd just take the guys down to the rec room and
    beat them repeatedly at chess
and then talk to them for hours about Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle
or the underlying social metaphors in the Aliens movies.

Buy stock in some hand cream companies
because there is about to be a major shortage.

And I'm not just talking about straight porn. Oh no.
There should be fuck films for my nerd brethren
    of all sexual orientations.
Gay nerd porn flicks with titles like "Dungeons and Drag-queens."

This idea is a fucking gold mine.
    I am gonna make millions,
because this country is full of database programmers
    and electronics engineers
and they aren't getting the loving they so desperately need.
    And you can help . . .

If you're an intelligent woman is interested in breaking into the adult film industry,
and if you can tell me the name of Luke Skywalker's home planet,
    then you are hired.

It doesn't matter if you think you're overweight or unattractive.
It doesn't matter if you don't think you're beautiful.
    You are beautiful. . .
And I will make you a star.

I'll give it an honest look either way, sandwiched between Tomb Raider and Pacific Rim Uprising, i'm hoping none of them are bad...

I went to see Ready Player One last night and honestly...i had a BLAST!

I'll do a 'proper' review in my cinema thread, but yeah, it's a ton of fun. I don't think it'll please everyone, but anyone looking for a couple of hours of what is basically a giant toy battle on the big screen will love this. Also MECHA GODZILLA VS RX-78 GUNDAM

I hate endless remake reference zombie culture, I don't think I will like this

    I love redlettermedia

And that nerd auteur poem is wank. Anyone declaring their particular sexuality to be righteous might as well be flying a plane into a building
